Hi and welcome to the crazy gang. 😄
It sounds so stressful for you just hang in there it will get better the world cant continue like this it's destroying everything we hold dear.

Sooner or later people will have to face up to the fact this is just another bug we have to learn to live with because i am not holding my breath for a reliable vaccine anytime soon.

Feel free to rant away on here as well as have a laugh.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 06/08/2020 16:49

Hi @soberfabulous, pull up a chair. Like Willow says, eventually governments will have to come around to the learn to live with it perspective because there is only so much the world economy can take. Unfortunately I think it will be a while, which is unbelievably shit.

Heading up to Northumberland for a couple of days in search of pretty beaches and Rishi's dishes. Wish me luck 🤞 !

Ijustreallywantacat · 06/08/2020 16:58

Im expecting to have to cancel trip up the Netherlands. On my own, cabin away from the centre of Amsterdam, cases rising fast though. Sad

HeIenaDove · 06/08/2020 17:00

Hairdresser just shared on my fb that face coverings are now mandatory from 8 August, oh but not in Wales or Northern Ireland Im in Essex

Not bothered as mine is more black and silver. this hairdresser is very popular locally and their fb posts usually get loads of likes 6 hours after posting this post has 2 likes.

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 17:04

On cases rising fast – I can't see why people are running around like headless chickens about this, at this point. Everyone always said cases would go up when lockdown eased. It's no surprise.

As long as the death and hospitalisation rates seem to remain low, this is all to be expected. I wish everyone (current company excepted) would stop squawking and wringing their hands about EVERYTHING. It's very dispiriting.

Welcome to the new folks. It's good to see people breaking cover Grin

Oh and well done, Domina Flowers and Wine

soberfabulous · 06/08/2020 17:10

Thanks willow2017

How are people surging financially if they've lost their jobs? Government support?

This is the terrifying part for us.

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 17:13

Well, sober that's a good question. Government support is helping those on furlough until the end of September, I think. And there are benefits for the unemployed if they qualify of course. Otherwise, no flipping idea but I think my family are going to have to find out soon. For now, my DH is doing a minimum wage job, part time, have lost one that paid well over £70k. Clearly this can only be a very temporary solution.

It is terrifying.

@Allflightscancelled exactly! Plus more testing happening. I was reading about Italy and Denmark earlier- both had a rise in cases after ending lockdown but then dropped off again. It’s just what happens but no, DON’T OPEN THE SCHOOLS OR GET A TAKEAWAY U WILL DIE I DISPAIR.

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 17:44

I'm going to go away this weekend. I think I mentioned I was supposed to do this last weekend because we'd left a phone behind at the seaside, that we needed to collect. But then I couldn't be arsed so I didn't go.

But I do have to get it this week, so DH and I are going to make a (budget) weekend of it, leaving tomorrow lunchtime, during a brief window in DD's taxi-requiring schedule. And I'm not going to read any news, and I may be AWOL from here too because the signal is quite crappy where we're going. And I'm going to wallow in the lack of dementing that I will be exposed to. I expect to be blissed out by Sunday evening.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/08/2020 17:48

What school uniform do my DCs need??? It's been that long Grin

I won't bother trying to guess what size trouser DS1 is or indeed buy him any as I doubt there are any trips to places of worship coming up, plus they let him wear dark zip-off (emergency getting cold on camp) trousers on the last one as he hasn't voluntarily worn trousers to school for over 4 years. In other news I can retire off the age 3-4 shorts!

M&S, this is your lucky day...
I would do this online anyway as I inevitably can't get enough stock in store

HeIenaDove · 06/08/2020 17:51

Apparently you can remove the mask while the colour is setting,

Nonsensical. I refuse to be part of this absolute fucking farce.

I REFUSE to be a part of this farce. Ive had it.

And the different parts of the UK have different roolz. So how does that work then.

As i get older my patience for being pissed about gets less and less. Today it is completely depleted.

WouldBeGood · 06/08/2020 18:05

I’ve had my hair done at home today by a mobile hairdresser- no dementoring and I’m very happy 😃

Dowser · 06/08/2020 18:11

I've done my own hair again. Start with the MN ponytail do for the layers, then that other trick of the multiple hairbands to take off the longer ends. I look quite human with my slightly wild wave that's forgiving of a DIY job.

DH went to the barbers a couple of weeks ago and they were quite complimentary about my efforts. I'd left enough length for them to be able to do a good job straight off. They've struggled with people going too short and needing a couple of cuts to balance it out. I'm taking it as a compliment as DH has awkward wiry hair that is very easy to get wrong and the aftermath of a bad cut indeed takes about 9 months of growing/ cuts to sit right again.

I'm not bothered enough about a professional trim to cover my face. Fortunately the most colour I do is a temporary dye in late winter to liven it up until the sun gets back on it.

Most school uniform is ordered... sold out of the right polo shirts though. Expensive one on socks as they've both gone up to size 13 together Grin

WouldBeGood · 06/08/2020 18:27

@BogRollBOGOF I couldn’t face hours in the hairdresser masked so this was perfect!

My child’s new school shoes are... adult size 11 😱 Hes just twelve...

justasking111 · 06/08/2020 18:27

Had to go to bank a big main branch, shut at 2pm, same every day, in a tourist town in August. Some cross people trying to get access could not believe it. Town heaving a lot of Liverpool accents, which was odd because we do not normally get them here it tends to be Manchester people who choose our neck of the woods. People were carrying lots of shopping bags so fingers crossed spending. I did go to a local boutique and bought a beautiful top more for the autumn than summer. Then some trousers at Roman Clothing. Toys for grand kids at the Entertainer, so I have done my bit for the retail sector.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/08/2020 18:40

DH is a size 11/12 but DS1 in particular has my small feet. DS2 is more average, but for years they have the same size. Technically DS2 is slightly bigger, but DS1 matches him due to needing a bit more width. They're doing better than me... I made it to 13.5 just in time to get lace ups for secondary school, so my 7yo's feet are half a size off mine at 11.5 yo Grin
I stopped by a 2. I have size 1 flip flops!

I've just been noseying around The Weekly Cases By Local Area In England map on the government's Covid dashboard (link below) and its fascinating. The virus is basically verging on extinction in most of the country, including my region. It makes me even more pissed off that we're seriously discussing things like masks in schools.

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/cases

HeIenaDove · 06/08/2020 19:17

I see Wanksock has wasted money on face masks that the NHS cant use because they have ear loops not tie backs. But the ones DH and i have from Boots have ear loops so im assuming they are safe for the general public to wear no?

So why cant they send them out to low income homes instead of just wasting them.

NothingIsWrong · 06/08/2020 19:29

I'm all the panic this evening. Proper full on thumping heart and sweating. Everyone around me saying kids should just be in school two days a week and I am going to fall apart if that happens. Even the prospect of it has me on the way down that slope. I'm a keyworker, but husband isn't, so who the fuck knows what will happen. He can't stay at home, I can't do my job if they are there.

And you know what, I've just spent hours and hours building the school a whole new bloody classroom so we can expand our intake and actually be financially viable. I do my fucking bit. And now - I just cannot do this.

TheOrchidKiller · 06/08/2020 19:29

We've had to send back other masks because the ear loops snap or the head ties break.

I had an ear loop snap as I was putting a mask on. I was stood outside at the time so just binned it & got another one. No risk to anyone but I was offered "support" for the "trauma". Okaaayyy.

The paperwork that one broken ear loop generated was unbelievable.

Those of us using these masks just tend to go, OK then, hand them back & carry on. The other week there were reports that alcohol gel would combust if kept in a hot car- not true.

I know the type of mask they have said is faulty. It looks like the sort that does need to be fitted properly if worn in a clinical setting. For everyday use in a shop or on a bus it'll probably be ok.

MaudesMum · 06/08/2020 19:37

I did wonder about that @HelenaDove but having read the story I wasn't sure if they'd even made it to England or was it such a dodgy procurement deal that they're still in a warehouse in China?

That map is brilliant @SomewhereEast - and should be sent to everyone who is panicking/worrying/a tad twitchy. I went out for a pub lunch yesterday - there were six of us in total, but from 5 different households. We were outdoors and sat round a biggish table, and someone pointed out that we weren't all two meters apart - the table wasn't big enough. Someone else pointed out that the infection rate in our county means that there are approx 100 people infected in a county with a population of 500,000, so the risks were very low, and we all relaxed. More training on statistics/risk analysis, please!

TheOrchidKiller · 06/08/2020 19:48

I second looking at that map. Even in Manchester the cases aren't in the numbers they have you imagine.

There are a few in my city but still so few, & less than a couple of months ago. There are no cases anywhere near where my over-anxious DM lives.

The map doesn't justify closing things down. Please look at it if you can, Nothingiswrong.

Allflightscancelled · 06/08/2020 19:52

@SomewhereEast that map is fab, thank you! So no cases where I live and ermmm.... oh yeah, no cases where I'm going for the weekend either. But hey, wear a mask, because it's the roolz
