Brilliant map.

IAintentDead · 06/08/2020 20:52

@HeIenaDove

I see Wanksock has wasted money on face masks that the NHS cant use because they have ear loops not tie backs. But the ones DH and i have from Boots have ear loops so im assuming they are safe for the general public to wear no? So why cant they send them out to low income homes instead of just wasting them.
Care homes can also use them, as can the NHS in non clinical areas. I hope to fuck they use them and don't just dump them. I wouldn't put it past them.
HeIenaDove · 06/08/2020 21:06

Oh yes of course @IAintentDead Hadnt thought of that.

Temps in my neck of the woods over next few days.

Fri 34c
Sat 31c
Sun 30c

Mon 30c
Tue 31c

Weds 30c

To all those having to wear masks as part of their jobs like hospitals care homes hairdressers i sympathize

But i will be very interested to see what the retail figures for the days ahead will be like for the next week. i cant imagine anyone wanting to wander around the shops in these temps

My plan for tomorrow is again..............no bra (if i have to be uncomfortable on my face im making up for it elsewhere) and im going out in soaking wet clothes Will soak them in cold water beforehand. This is to do a food shop.

Good luck retail. Cos you are gonna fucking need it.

HeIenaDove · 06/08/2020 21:10

Oh and i suggest A and E better prepare to admit a higher than usual no. suffering heat stroke.

HeIenaDove · 06/08/2020 22:11

lol i meant money wise. Footfall is going to drop through the floor especially in the shopping centres

NannyPhlegm · 06/08/2020 22:44

HelenaDove I am using a box dye and quite happy with it. I can't see myself sitting at the hairdressers with a mask for the amount of time it takes for colour to set. They no longer have any magazines to leaf through, they don't offer any drinks....the thought of having to sit for hours staring at my masked face puts me right off. It's bad enough having to stare at my face in normal times! 🤪

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/08/2020 22:46

@SomewhereEast that map! Thank you. So I’m struggling to find many cases at all. This is good news. So where are all the cases coming from? I know things can change quickly. But this has to be a good thing.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/08/2020 22:47

I found it very reassuring seeing data like that in May when we were clearly over the peak, but it does increase my frustration. Knowing what the rates are in my city, that they tend to be concentrated in a couple of neighbourhoods that I have little chance of interracting with. I'm no number cruncher, but I can read statitistics clearly enough to know that my token gesture of wearing the lightest buff for my own personal comfort is highly, highly unlikely to be compromising people from the illness that I am very, very unlikely to have and be spreading assymptomarically. If I was seriously concened about those kinds of odds, I'd also be taking my chances on lottery tickets. There's no need to increase my suffering with a much more optimal mask or inflict them on my children.

The situation could change and it's useful to keep abreast of that. There were local reports of a slight uptick last week, but the map's data is still reassuringly low. You could count the cases on your hands on a population of 250,000 people kind of reassuringly low.

40c, that is hot no wonder. No child should be expected to cope with masks, nor vulnerable people in those temperatures. I can see why they are concerned about the number of cases but the deaths are still very low.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 06/08/2020 22:54

Just showed that map to MIL. Still dementoring away. It's definitely still dangerous and the biggest danger is tourists coming in by the coach load. Pointed out that if the tourists are from Newcastle or Edinburgh or anywhere in between there's literally zero cases anywhere. Nope, they might be coming from Manchester. Which is in a disease whirlwind of doom.

PIL have been nowhere and done nothing for months. They are convinced it is still VERY DANGEROUS out there. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to bite my tongue.

NannyPhlegm · 06/08/2020 22:59

They'll just be marked down as Covid. Cynical? Moi??
justasking111 · 06/08/2020 23:03

Looking at the world meter it matters not if you live in a dry heat, high humidity this virus loves it. When looking at Argentina which is cold just now figures are lower. So perhaps it will not like our british winter.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/08/2020 23:07

Pupils go into flop mode at 30oC. God knows how they would cope with covered faces.

I find myself stripping off to cope as the buff goes on, even with the back rolled up so it's not like a scarf.

I had a random panic attack at about 6/7 months pg. It was a vile day so I was layered up, and I was queuing for the tills in TK Maxx. And the ceiling was low, with hot spotlights, and I just very quickly overheated and went faint and tried to get as many clothes off as I could as quickly as I could and hoped that I didn't faint before getting to the till. I remember the assistant asking if I was OK so I couldn't have looked right.
I'm not great at queuing anyway and have struggled a few times. I do prefer the extra space at the moment rather than having people a foot taller than me looming.and blocking out the light and fresh air Grin

DH did Costco for me tonight Grin
Not roo much random shit either! Halo

I am so much more surprised by 'older' people dementing than younger ones.

I'm 65, we have lived through far worse than this, just it wasn't on social media so the next town was more like another continent when it came to risk. Younger people haven't and if they they haven't experienced death in anyone close to them, then it is more understandable I think.

I am struggling with the number of people that think young people should put their lives on hold to protect the 'boomers'. I am technically a 'boomer' but FFS how entitled are some of us.

HappydaysArehere · 06/08/2020 23:12

Just came across this. Haven’t bought a jelly or carnation milk in years. I am now putting them on my shopping list. Thanks for the memory.

justasking111 · 06/08/2020 23:21

You will enjoy your jelly and evap. I am sure. I know people liked angel delight I hated it. What I did and mother made for me especially when ill was strawberry instant whip. Ahh food of the gods when you had a sore throat.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 06/08/2020 23:22

Yes, @justasking111! Another Angel Delight hater! Solidarity my friend 👊

NannyPhlegm · 06/08/2020 23:29

I never could stomach Angel Delight either.

Ibake · 06/08/2020 23:31

Re the map. Remember that it only shows cases of 3 and above. So lots of areas might have 1 or 2 cases/week but they wouldn't show up. Data protection issues as 1 or 2 might mean identifiying. That's why the map looks like there's hardly any cases at all. And for many areas this will be true.

justasking111 · 06/08/2020 23:31

Well while we are being brutally honest, I hated blancmange too. But that pink custard we had at school ahh... now that was delish.. especially poured over a sponge pudding Smile

justasking111 · 06/08/2020 23:33

Well Wrexham is in a right pickle all the welsh deaths this week are coming out of one hospital, two pubs have had notice served on them for lack of social distancing. They were asked politely and ignored it so the clock is ticking for them.

HeIenaDove · 06/08/2020 23:52

My mum used to do blancmange in a rabbit mould when we were kids. I hated blancmange but loved the rabbit shape

Ditto pink custard at school It was usually poured on some sort of cake We had chocolate custard as well
