@justasking111 not sure about that. There is the line "you can come too" with no mention of social distancing. Very dodgy, can't be too careful.

Lovely day here. I had my grandson overnight again, went out for a long walk to the ice cream place, lovely afternoon doing not much and he was fab. Cuddles with my baby granddaughter later, good times.

MaudesMum · 07/08/2020 20:34

@justasking111 - the zoo have probably kept as many staff as possible on furlough as they're presumably teetering on the brink of profitability.. It sounds like they've got the balance slightly wrong...

I've just had a nice drink (or two) in my garden with friends - one of whom has health problems and is quite anxious. From what he said, I'm not sure if I'll see them in person over the winter - he won't be comfortable indoors with anyone apart from his close family, whether its a pub, restaurant or home. I absolutely don't blame him as everyone has to make their own risk assessments, but if you assume every friendship/family group has within it a few people like that, we're all going to end up with quite diminished social circles this winter - and that is before we get to local lockdowns and so on.

Aubergine fans - DH cooked a lovely moussaka this evening. We ate outside and pretended we were in Greece. He does have his uses sometimes 😁

We're on lasagne tonight. Costco made it, so minimal effort for me Grin Grin Grin

DCs have had Karate in the park again this evening. Very pleasant sitting and watching on a warm evening Smile

@MaudesMum
I have a similar friend who has already said we'll have to meet up outside in the winter. I reluctantly accept that SD measures are still going to be here then, but it's sad to hear her assume that she won't feel safe if we meet indoors. I will meet her outside if it means retaining our friendship because that matters.

Don't know what will happen with seeing family who live further away but won't feel up to meeting inside.

Or will the cold weather & the prospect of seeing no one over winter lead them to change their minds?

Hi, I have just heard a contributor to the Jeremy vine programme coin the phrase 'Antisocial Distancing' . Brilliant, I will be using that at every opportunity. Cheers

Hands up! Was it you?

This is funny. The Argus (local paper where I grew up) has pictures of Brighton seafront with “This is the scene in Brighton today - the hottest day of the day. People are being warned to stay away”. This would be okay except the packed seafront is a stock photo and all the commenters are pointing out that the beach is nowhere near as busy as the paper is making out.

CruCru · 07/08/2020 20:54

A friend referred to dementors on Facebook today. Think that’s got out.

Polkadotties · 07/08/2020 21:00

There was no peak after the all the other packed beach days Hmm

TheOrchidKiller · 07/08/2020 21:08

ADs are going to the anti social distancing zoo (zoo zoo)?

TheOrchidKiller · 07/08/2020 21:10

And thank you @justasking111 for the "going to the zoo, zoo, zoo" ear worm!

Good. Glad people are pushing back against the media blatantly using stock or cropped photos to scaremonger.

Zoo, zoo , zoo haha....

Was so knackered tonight, OH had been out all day ditto DS at work, what is for dinner they said, got the reply KFC. I think they knew the writing was on the wall so they nipped out for said chicken dinner without a moan Grin

countrygirl99 · 07/08/2020 21:23

So, on my and DHs trips to the supermarket there are perhaps 1 or at a push 2 people not wearing masks. But we are still an area for concern that may face local lockdown. Doesn't really help the pro mask argument does it. Really annoys me as the cases are all in town, hardly any in the villages where we are, but no doubt it will be the whole borough. And no doubt DH would be hit workwise which means he will be at home more to annoy me😔

justasking111 · 07/08/2020 21:30

OH took the boat out today from Conwy over to Anglesey and through the swellies under both bridges, passing all the beaches en route. He was amazed to see beaches that normally on the hottest of days in August have a few people on because they are off the beaten track tourism wise were very busy, people really are staycationing even if only for the day/weekend.

HeIenaDove · 07/08/2020 22:11

Was playing around looking stuff up on my phone in bed early hours this morning. Found an article on Cheshire Live They did a poll and 63% said they were less likely to shop post mask , 37% said they would be more likely to

westendgirl · 07/08/2020 22:11

@TheOrchidKiller, our Council have a similar approach to toilets. Rather than open them they expect that visitors who have driven across London and spent a small fortune on food and drink in our shops and takeways, should go home if they need a toilet.

In better news, rather excitingly, 30 people have been resurrected in the Borough in the last fews days. Our Sad Death rate is much improved.

I heard it on Jeremy Vine just before I suggested it on here - so unfortunately not my idea. It was Paddy O'Connel standing in today and it was him that said it.
IAintentDead · 07/08/2020 22:32

But that is really what a staycation is. A uk holiday is a uk holiday. A staycation is staying at home and going out for day trips.

PickAChew · 07/08/2020 22:42

Wasn't there a thread about the definition of a stay cation, this week?
