@DominaShantotto

Local papers now going around the supermarkets and counting how many people not wearing masks and if they're wearing disabilities lanyards and basically passing judgement on if their non-masking is "acceptable".

Horrific. (Derby Telegraph and Notts Post are the two I've found so far up to this shit - but I suspect all those in that newspaper group (Reach PLC) will be running exactly the same shit.

Maybe someone should drop them a line about disability discrimination and potential consequences? Fecking arses should consult thier lawyers before printing that shit.
LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 03/08/2020 11:28

Sky- why have you massively increased my payment? Answerphone message pretty much as above.

DH had this with mobile company - he pressed options for leaving and got put through to an actual person who could deal with the bill problem. He suspect that was what would happen.

Years ago we had on-going issues with child tax people - a real computer says issue- one letter later and it was sorted after months of phone calls.

Allflightscancelled · 03/08/2020 11:32

Prof Karol Sikora's tweets are good today.

I really, really like him, he is keeping me sane, though you lot are helping, too.

The BBC and all the mainstream news outlets should hang their heads in shame with their poor reporting and headline-grabbing dementoring. And the mask-shaming Domina mentions is absolutely shocking.

Allflightscancelled · 03/08/2020 11:37

I've just spent 15 minutes trying to shout someone's address down the phone to my mum. It was so loud it even woke my comatose 17 year old upstairs, but Mum couldn't hear. She said she thought there was something wrong with her phone but says she asked BT to check it and it's fine.

The obvious truth is, she's losing her hearing and over the last few weeks the deafness seems to be worsening very fast. So I have 2 battles on my hands here. The first is getting my extremely vain mum to accept she may need hearing aids and then the second will be to get her an appointment and some decent treatment in these fucked up times.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 03/08/2020 11:44

Boots and specsavers both seem to be booking hearing appointments or at least in some areas.

Boots have an Online hearing test

Modern hearing aids are more discret than they used to be as well.

Though I know getting parents to do things they really need to is hard and takes time.

Allflightscancelled · 03/08/2020 12:06

Well that's a positive, @LadyOfTheImprovisedBath

Just the battle with mum to go now Grin

WouldBeGood · 03/08/2020 12:11

@Allflightscancelled I too was especially happy to read Professor Sikora’s tweets today.

Allflightscancelled · 03/08/2020 12:13

He is a tonic, isn't he?

If mums hearing loss is that rapid she needs to see a gp or a hearing aid specialist, that is not normal at all.
justasking111 · 03/08/2020 12:33

Well the dogs need bravecto appointment at 1.40pm. So we have to take them to get weighed, OH is coming with me coping with two dogs who hate the vet is going to be interesting when we have to stay outside while they go in alone.

justasking111 · 03/08/2020 12:38

It was so good to this morning to read sane posts from our antipodean friends who are fuming about the lunacy in Australia. I do wonder how the new zealanders are doing they appear to be on a different planet from the rest of us now. Are they still isolated from families abroad there was such a to do when UK grieving family brought in covid. Last death May 29th, 3 in May 22 in total. So the grieving family have not killed anyone.

Allflightscancelled · 03/08/2020 12:45

@justasking111 Ah. Thank you. I will suggest an appointment when I see her later this week Sad

NothingIsWrong · 03/08/2020 12:46

I am doing the school uniform battle today. My eldest is very tall and very skinny (god knows how with my gene pool) and school requires skirts to the knee. I've ordered a couple from M&S in a ladies 6 and crossed my fingers...

It's the first day of my annual leave, and we have two days just mooching around the house - I have just cooked about a kg of pasta and grated and entire block of cheese for the large amount of other people's children that have appeared in my house. It's amazing :-)

DominaShantotto · 03/08/2020 12:57

I've done the bulk of the school uniform shop - just ordered it to be delivered cos fuck braving the shops if I don't have to... might run into a stray journalist.

Now trying to revise phonetics for this damned exam in a couple of weeks... so they've started drilling up the next road across. So we can't go out anyway cos everyone's now parked in our street and we'd never get parked again.

Polkadotties · 03/08/2020 13:19

Dementory friend just said deaths will go up soon as people are going out Hmm

Supermarketworker06 · 03/08/2020 13:28

Crumpets I've got through to Halifax and Sky now, Halifax by another number and Sky by a sneaky way! Both sorted now, so just the civil service thing left now. As a former civil servant, I know that's not going to be straightforward!

justasking111 · 03/08/2020 13:29

Dementor OH, wailing over Australia in the news, my giving him the actual cases, deaths just washed over him. Angry

NothingIsWrong · 03/08/2020 14:02

I've ordered delivery for mine as well. Normally with M&S I'd do click and collect and pick up other bits at the same time. Not this time with a mask required.

Thisdressneedspockets · 03/08/2020 14:10

@Supermarketworker06

So cross here. Day at home, housework and admin, no problem you'd think? I've got to ring about my civil service pension, as the answer is not on the website. Answer phone message- we're very busy and short staffed cos of covid, look on the website or email cos we're not taking phone calls unless you're vulnerable. Sky- why have you massively increased my payment? Answerphone message pretty much as above. Halifax- query about my mortgage. 3 for 3 here, same answer phone message as above! Is there a theme here? Not everyone is vulnerable so surely there is the facility to talk to people who want answers to questions that are outside the norm, AND NOT ON THE BLOODY WEBSITE! And I've not done any housework and I've missed pop master. Bollocks, shit, piss and arse.
Ditto for nationwide building society. I'm so pleased they're helping out people who are really struggling. I felt terrible taking up their time when all I needed was a working contactless card.
Willow2017 · 03/08/2020 15:44

Been to pick up my glasses and get food shopping. Went to Aldi to see if its still cheaper than my place with discount but not convinced. Just as well as i won't be back in a hurry. One cashier in charge of queue from thier till. 1 queue for all tills. So they were shouting to each customer which till to go to plus shouting at cashiers to get of tills and then for cashiers to get on tills. What's the point just stay o the till ffs! As long as you have customers why do they need to close a till and then open it agsin 2 minutes later? The constant shouting plus masks and constant announcements of "customer safety' drove me mad. Signs up to pack at your car but people still packing at the ledge so little room to distsnce anywhere. Nobody at door now so people just going in so it was busy. All the announcements and shouting were pointless it was much better before!

Won't be back unless I have to till this crap is over.

Oh well did get a coffee and pastry in CN and charity shop open so got an utterly unecessary book too.😄

Oh please do ask him/her what the plan is! Then come back here and tell us what he/she said.

@Polkadotties

Dementory friend just said deaths will go up soon as people are going out Hmm
People have been going out all along. Other people have predicted deaths will go up all along Even now with the cases increasing slightly deaths haven't gone up.

One thing I am sure of - deaths will go up hugely from all sorts of none Covid things if we don't get the NHS back from being the NCS, and get the economy moving.
