We went to Aldi last week - was suprised how calm ours was - so might go back though not as much as we once did.

HeIenaDove · 03/08/2020 16:35

"Local papers now going around the supermarkets and counting how many people not wearing masks and if they're wearing disabilities lanyards and basically passing judgement on if their non-masking is "acceptable".

Horrific. (Derby Telegraph and Notts Post are the two I've found so far up to this shit - but I suspect all those in that newspaper group (Reach PLC) will be running exactly the same shit"

Absolute cunts.

mightbealittlebitmad · 03/08/2020 16:35

I just don't understand the hysteria. If cases haven't shot up into the several thousands and deaths remaining steady or declining then what's the issue?

I really feel like I'm living in an alternate universe, even my own husband is on board with the measures so it's making life difficult. He doesn't understand why I find it so difficult but for weeks I had my life taken away. No school so kids constantly underfoot and I was attempting to teach, no work, no gym, no friends. Now I'm finally back at work earning my full wages and he's moaning when I pick up extra because it means he's got the kids. I'm doing everything I can in order to keep my job because I don't know how safe it is long term. If they need to let people go when furlough ends I want them to keep me because I'm flexible and willing to work. He's complaining I'm spending too much money and I'm finding a solution to that by earning more but that's still not good enough. Working days would put us in debt paying for childcare, me quitting entirely would leave us not being able to afford anything but the basics.

I feel like banging my head against a brick wall because it's all so frustrating!

Willow2017 · 03/08/2020 16:36

@amicissimma

"Dementory friend just said deaths will go up soon as people are going out "

So the plan is?

Do they think.everyone has stayed indoors for 4 months? Go on ask them what he proposes we do?
Willow2017 · 03/08/2020 16:46

Mightbe
He is complaining he has to look.after his own kids now but it was ok for you to do it for weeks? Tell him to get a grip and ask how he proposes you pay bills and emergencies without your income? Ask him why him actually parenting his own kids is so hard for him?
It must drive you mad.

Polkadotties · 03/08/2020 17:02

Lost the ability to quote.
@amicissimma been talking about people going to pubs Etc. Infections WILL go up and in a few weeks time deaths WILL rise

amicissimma · 03/08/2020 17:10

" Infections WILL go up and in a few weeks time deaths WILL rise"

So, again, what's the plan? Can you ask, Polkadotties?

Rather than what a random dementor thinks, I'd really like to know what HM Government's plan is. Stop the NHS being overwhelmed: excellent. So far, so good. Now what?

He says he's not complaining but feels like he is. He finds parenting easier than I do I'm sure he does, he certainly deals with it all much better than me. It's only a couple of hours usually too because they obviously go to bed in the evening so it's just the bedtime he has to do.

He looks after them when I go out and he takes them out so I can have a childfree day so I'm a bit perplexed really.

I’m too scared to ask. Dementor is very forthright and I can feel the vibes through my phone. She’s a very good friend of mine but we have very differing views on this.

Sewage testing for Covid-19 begins in England

I knew they'd been doing this for a while in parts of Wales.

"All the evidence suggests that we can potentially see a signal in wastewater before we see a spike in infections in the community," he told BBC News.

..

Environment Secretary George Eustice said: "The aim of this new research is to give us a head start on where new outbreaks are likely to occur.

Though I don't know what they'll do to areas they'll dectect - maybe more testing and remind people to socially distance rather than lock downs - doesn't say.

SpnBaby1967 · 03/08/2020 18:20

@LivinLaVidaLoki I've been dealing with a safeguarding the last few weeks. Neighbour has been providing videos to us which shows the nightly stream of men the mum books in for her 11 & 15 year old daughter to "service". Social team are being blocked left right and centre as mum claims to be shielding. Mum is also deaf so court being awkward about removing the children without mum able to partake. BSL interpreter booked every time via video link for mum, mum never shows up. Not for court, not for child protection meetings. Judge refuses to take action, police refused entry due to supposed shielding, school blocked at every turn.

Had lockdown not happened police would have gone in with social services, kids would have been removed and we would have gone for possession of the property.

I'm furious. The 11 year old texted her SW saying she didnt want to service any more men. Fucking 11!!!

Polkadotties · 03/08/2020 18:23

That is sickening and saddening at the same time. All to protect a teeny weeny smidgen of the population

RobinHobb · 03/08/2020 18:27

@SpnBaby1967
I have no words.

SpnBaby1967 · 03/08/2020 18:35

The judge basically says we cant take the word of the 11 year old as she lied about being raped last year and the men all visiting the mum says are just friends and family coming by to see her elderly mum who lives with them and is terminally ill.

They're back in court tomorrow after the social workers have fought to get the judge to hear it again after we provided more evidence today. I hope the kids get removed. Their dad is ready to have them, he does turn up for all the meetings and court hearings!!

BogRollBOGOF · 03/08/2020 18:41

That's horrific Sad

My friend does the child protection at the previous school I worked in. Despite the lack of pupils, the workload has been as high as ever due to the serious nature of what has been emerging through this. There are issues with county lines and gangs in the area aside from domestic issues.

There will be plenty that hasn't come to light though...

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/08/2020 18:42

@SpnBaby1967

Its utterly heartbreaking isn't it. Can the police not remove them? We've had children in lockdown who have only appeared on our radar after police have removed them either into our care or the care of a relative (some of which could have been picked up by pastoral at school before they escalated)?

Sorry I'm not sure what part of the country you are in. That situation is fucking terrible Thanks for you.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/08/2020 18:45

Sorry @SpnBaby1967 I'm a few posts behind. Wish you all the luck at court tomorrow.

Now there's a job where I would want ALL the PPE Grin
AgentCooper · 03/08/2020 19:10

@SpnBaby1967 that’s horrific. How fucking sad and unfair for those girls. Free education for all was designed to stop anyone disappearing through the cracks. And it’s snatched away like that.

This might sound like I’m minimising and I don’t mean it to, but when I was watching My Brilliant Friend recently I was shocked at how easy it was to just pull girls out of education when they were still children back then, and nobody would come knocking to see if they were ok. That’s not a million miles from what’s going on now, nobody to check on vulnerable kids or monitor their homes learning.’

TheOrchidKiller · 03/08/2020 19:12

The child safeguarding story is shocking, & desperately sad.

Had to refer a vulnerable adult to safeguarding today. Social worker hasn't been allowed to visit as social services stopped all face-to-face social work contact with service users until very recently. Social worker can't take the referral "because of covid" so I had to phone another department to report it. They will refer it back to the original social worker, who has to ask permission of their manager to visit the service user.

It's been a bizarre day.

I feel a bit creeped out by people sifting through the sewers. I know it's not a new thing in public health but it feels like a weird invasion of privacy. I know there isn't really a man standing by the soil pipe in the garden with a bucket. Or will they get really clever & do it by postcode?

Willow2017 · 03/08/2020 19:14

SpnBaby1967
God that's horrific. Once more children are being let down by police and courts. Good luck tomorrow. People fighting to save kuds yet blocked by the very agencies whos job it is to do it too! Are people really thst stupid or just cba? How can she be shielding with a stream of men entering the house daily?
Gives me the rage.

BakewellTarts · 03/08/2020 19:35

What a depressing situation @SpnBaby1967 I really hope you can get help for those poor kids and find them somewhere safe to live. Everything crossed for the right decision tomorrow.

My DD2 is 11 I can't imagine her in that situation or not protecting her. Words fail me Sad

DrearyWallAntler · 03/08/2020 19:55

@TheOrchidKiller

It's unlikely to be even postcode specific. It will most likely be set on what are called 'catchments'. Each catchment will go to a treatment plant. The plants will serve anywhere between 1000 and 30,000 houses, the larger stations will be more accessible so that's the place to start.

Also, the water companies have a very sketchy idea of how many drains they actually have all thanks to the sewer transfer act which gave them responsibility for sewers previously owned by a local authority, mainly constructed under public health act. Which dates back to 1848. You can imagine the record keeping. Not exactly digital format.

The likelyhood of them pinpointing an exact house (or street) is slim to none. Streets can cross drainage catchments and they don't really follow things you can see, they are based on the level and capacity of the infrastructure. Your next door neighbour could drain to a completely different treatment works to you.

If the tech is rolled out to pumping stations (the next easiest place) then the area could be refined, but as pumping stations can serve anything between 2 and 10000 homes it doesn't refine it that much. And you will be putting the tech in the larger ones first.

(Sorry, sewerage is my specialist subject)

I'm super fun at parties

FeelsLikeGroundhogDay · 03/08/2020 19:58

Lurker here but have to chip in, that safe guarding post has made my blood run cold! I've said ( to anyone who'll listen, which isnt many ) that lockdown and schools closing will have a frightening impact on abuse, neglect and safe guarding..but the corna trumps all. Just had to comment on my local FB page on another! Post about masks, the usual suspects were out - " my neighbours cat has asthma and still wears a mask why can't everyone " - " I can't think of a single condition where it might be difficult to wear a mask" - " better a mask than a coffin ". I despair honestly. People really do hate those with disabilities, it's so frightening
