Have you done drugs??

Went out for a few drinks with work friends tonight and the conversation turned to drugs. I was the only one who’d never done any, not even a joint. The others have all done pretty much everything- weed, coke, Es, speed, MDMA, even heroin in one case.

I’m not virulently anti drugs, they just never crossed my path growing up and now I’m middle aged with kids and get quite excited when I’ve got cause to crack open the Solpadeine Grin but by the end of the conversation I felt practically Armish!

Am I the only one? Please say not...

Yes. I would take anything and everything to get me high (pre children of course) I loved it and have fond memories of it. Its hard for me to actively not take drugs but I haven't touched anything in 9 years (except the odd drag on my Fathers spliff) I must admit that I get kinda excited when I get pariculary ill and its an opportunity to take night nurse. Its bad really but what can I say? I'm an awful hedonistic wreck of a woman.

lovelemoncurd · 01/08/2020 12:02

All quite some years ago now but:
Magic mushroom
Cannabis
Cocaine
Ecstasy
And amazingly opium!

OhTheRoses · 01/08/2020 12:03

No. And here's why.
I was born in 1960 when a great many people smoked. It was perfectly normal to have a cheeky cig, stolen from your mother's cigarette box. I had my first at 14 and I enjoyed it very very much. I smoked until I was 33 and starting to make babies. It taught me I was an addictive personality so I always said no.

There was often marijuana at teenage parties (more pony club and young farmers than raves). Was offered it at my one term at uni and it and stronger at finishing school. At parties in London in the early 80's, public school types, there was often a clique in a back room. Also freely available at clubs with a City clientele in the 80s but no. I wouldn't say it was widespread; probably 5%-10% of people I knew. The rest of us smoked cigarettes.

I think the decline of cigarettes has caused drug use in the young to increase and I am absolutely certain ds has tried a few things. I am not sure the vilification of tobacco makes for a particularly healthy or healthier relationship with drugs.

I have 2 adult children now and the most potent drug I had had was "tramadol" post surgery - weird night time dreams and didn't really help with the pain.
Since then have tried CBD gummies - legal in certain parts of US - and whilst the initial ones did have some relaxing effect I wouldnt be bothered again. Did make my 70 something mother giggle like mad though.

MrsMariaReynolds · 01/08/2020 12:48

I'm pretty boring. I've smoked pot twice. Nothing else.

I did enjoy my booze in my younger years though...

roarfeckingroarr · 01/08/2020 12:50

Yeah pretty much all of it except the really heavy stuff, crack and heroin. I was the epitome of the London middle class professional who thought nothing of regularly taking a fair bit of cocaine after a dinner party/with friends and some delicensing wine. Pregnancy put an end to that!

Kez200 · 01/08/2020 12:57

No. Never came across them as a youngster 1970s.

I also have funny reactions to some normal medications and have had to stop taking a few in the past. I think I would be too scared Id be one of those who get an extreme reaction if I took drugs too.

changenamez · 01/08/2020 14:17

Never

Theodoreb · 01/08/2020 15:03

Yes was a addict done weed, swallowed speed injected speed and smoked crack and sniffed and smoked meow.

The meow made me trip seriously and I ended up sectioned the two times I took it.

Pepperwand · 01/08/2020 15:03

Only in my youth, stopped in my early 20s. Smoked weed a fair bit, tried mushrooms and poppers once. I also tried a couple of legal highs back when you could buy that sort of thing at market stalls!

Couldn't imagine anything worse nowadays, would much rather have a cup of tea.

Pepperwand · 01/08/2020 15:05

And I was always far too scared of what could be put in cocaine, ecstacy etc so stayed well away from the harder stuff!

Nicolastuffedone · 01/08/2020 15:09

Never.

Pedallleur · 01/08/2020 15:43

No, never felt the need to, couldn't afford the habit and I would probably die.

Silvercatowner · 01/08/2020 15:46

Not for over 30 years. But I do remember a stomach bug - one of those bugs with horrendous nausea. A friend offered me a drag of weed and I felt instantly better. Not well, but the nausea went.

CrockyBetter · 01/08/2020 15:48

Nope. Never tried a cigarette either.

17CherryTreeLane · 01/08/2020 16:10

Yes, and when I think back now, I'm amazed I lived to tell the tale! I was in my 20s in the 90s, and took ecstasy, speed, weed, ketamine, acid, poppers and cocaine.

Haven't touched anything since turning 30, and I warn my children of the dangers of drugs.

8elate8 · 01/08/2020 16:10

Nope, never understood the appeal!? Been offered different drugs on different occasions but I find it very unattractive 😬

Shouldbedancingyeah · 01/08/2020 16:14

Looking at my friends, there’s definitely a gender split. My female friends and I haven’t done any drugs whereas every male friend of mine has done weed, coke, lean, molly etc

icebearforpresident · 01/08/2020 16:32

I’ve not tried anything it never crossed my path as a teenager although I grew up in a small town with plenty of it about. A few friends at uni smoked weed and would offer me it occasionally but I lived at home and drove up and down every day so never tried it.

I’m 35 and definitely open to the idea of trying weed or psychedelics of some description but the responsible parent in me is too chicken to try. I like the idea of gummies and if I was ever somewhere they were legal would give them a go.

MsEllany · 01/08/2020 18:44

I was offered drugs a lot less than PC Mortimer had me believe.

Disappointing.

fucknuckle · 01/08/2020 20:25

i had a very, very bad experience on acid when i was 19 and did the whole of the 90s without a single drug. drank like a fish though.

i’ve had periods of smoking weed but it doesn’t suit me any more. i like MDMA - it makes my head feel all clean the next day. coke is delicious but expensive and often shit so i don’t do that any more.

my one constant was the booze, but i quit that 6.5 years ago. i am currently on a LOT of prescription medication and that’s enough for me in my middle age. apart from that, i’m clean as a whistle these days.

CrockyBetter · 02/08/2020 08:30

I don't even know what half this stuff is you're all talking about!

Timetoflower22 · 25/07/2023 13:23

Was very anti drugs my entire teenage years as I saw my uncle (who was addicted to coke and meth nearly die). Was a hard anti-drugs person, until my late twenties and thought fuck it I'll try cocaine whilst drunk.

Kez200 · 25/07/2023 13:48

No..nor have I ever been offered any. I must look very anti!

Not interested at all.

WomanFromTheNorth · 26/07/2023 19:49

I came of age in 1989 - so yes! Regularly took recreational drugs until the mid 90s - mostly speed and ecstasy but tried cocaine and never really got it. Also used to have Lsd sometimes but not in a club environment. Never really got on with weed either but then I don't smoke so that's maybe why.
