Have you done drugs??

Estrellente · 31/07/2020 22:10

Went out for a few drinks with work friends tonight and the conversation turned to drugs. I was the only one who’d never done any, not even a joint. The others have all done pretty much everything- weed, coke, Es, speed, MDMA, even heroin in one case.

I’m not virulently anti drugs, they just never crossed my path growing up and now I’m middle aged with kids and get quite excited when I’ve got cause to crack open the Solpadeine Grin but by the end of the conversation I felt practically Armish!

Am I the only one? Please say not...

No, didn’t smoke either. DH is the same.

TinkersTailor · 01/08/2020 02:13

@shazshaz Fentanyl is frightening, isn't it? I had the same experience in that my breathing switched to manual and I had to focus really hard to make sure I was inhaling and exhaling.

Not easy when your slipping into a warm, fuzzy, opiate haze that makes you want to sleep.

Really spooked me out.

brastrapbroken · 01/08/2020 02:13

@SaucyTrout2k

I’m very anti drugs and have never tried them. If people ever let it slip to me I do secretly judge them.

Me too. I have no idea why anybody would. I mean they make you feel weird, like not yourself? Eurgh. I would hate that. I need to be in control of myself.

TinkersTailor · 01/08/2020 02:14

@brastrapbroken I'm guessing you don't drink either then?

notangelinajolie · 01/08/2020 02:17

Nope. Never.

famousforwrongreason · 01/08/2020 02:22

@Estrellente

Yes. I’m quite sure the Met spend their Friday evenings making up stinger threads on Mumsnet Hmm

It’s a genuine question and I’m a ping term poster (Pom bears, penis beaker, cancel the Fucking cheque and so on). You don’t have to answer it.

I wanna be a ping term poster.

Oh. And yeah, all the drugs. Not really any of the 'legal' (now illegal) highs.
Neither have I tried any of the shamanistic, often South American, psychoactive drugs such as dmt. But everything else. People who've tried any kind of chemical have likely experimented with more than they think they have due to pills and powders being cut with other substances.
Even weed is often not as pure as it used to be, more so with chemical growth boosters but also with other drugs, maybe trippy ones to make it a more exciting and different hit! Variety!

brastrapbroken · 01/08/2020 02:22

I would like to say good guess but it wasn't without clues. No, I don't drink. Never have, for exactly the same reasons.

fentanyl is a popular street drug now. I was prescribed it for pain management when very ill but I ended up ripping off the patch and refused to use it again. I'm a seasoned drug user but that stuff scared me. Transpired I'd been started on the highest possible dosage. I was off my head but not in a fun way!

Good. I was hoping you weren't being hypocritical whilst judging. Doesn't give you carte blanche to do so though.
TinkersTailor · 01/08/2020 02:33

@famousforwrongreason That's really scary, it's deadly in such small doses!
I was monitored so closely whilst on the drug, with nurses popping their heads in frequently; it was a low dose but I hated it.

I can't imagine how you must have felt.

brastrapbroken · 01/08/2020 02:35

No, I just don't understand it. The idea of taking something to make you feel 'different'

I realise you were trying to trip me up sarcastically now, I missed that initially.

longtimecomin · 01/08/2020 02:42

Yes from the age of 16 to 21ish in the nineties I tried most things but never heroin.

ilovesooty · 01/08/2020 02:45

@MrsTerryPratchett

Interesting that I'm willing to bet the OP, and many of the anti-drugs people on here have taken the most deadly, mostly physically addictive, most destructive drug.

Addiction and misuse are the issues, not the individual drug of choice.

Just what I was thinking.

No trip (ha). It was a question, as I say, in the hopes you weren't being a hypocrite.
squeekums · 01/08/2020 02:46

And ketamine yes. Good old K holes after 10 hours of partying
Ahh memories...... love a good k-hole

I've tried a long list. The list of what I didn't try is much shorter

TheAdhesiveDuckDeficiency · 01/08/2020 04:24

Nope. I’ve never tried any drug, never even smoked a cigarette.

I don’t judge those who have, it just always surprises me. Drugs were never something I was exposed to as a teen (my friends were more drinking in fields type folk) and my university friends were even more sheltered than me. I don’t feel as though I missed out at all, I’m happy with my lack of experience in that area.

Daisychainsandglitter · 01/08/2020 06:56

I did in my late teens/early 20's although I always preferred alcohol.
Cannabis which I hated, MDMA, ketamine, speed and magic mushrooms.
Wouldn't touch them now though.

THATbasicrebelBITCH · 01/08/2020 07:14

I did most things bar the really hard stuff in my teens but nothing after 19 as i had a baby then

SapphosRock · 01/08/2020 07:26

Don’t you all worry about the effect it’s had on your body/brain??

Yes sometimes but I took them every weekend for years and seem to be okay so far. Made some amazing lifelong friends from that time which I wouldn't have met if it wasn't for drugs / clubbing. They all seem to be alright too apart from some mild mental health issues which they may have developed anyway.

I actually think drugs can be positive for mental health, I believe MDMA was designed as an anti depressant as it gives depressed people a reference point of what happiness feels like.

THATbasicrebelBITCH · 01/08/2020 07:33

I did have some short term memory issues for a while tbh but after a while that seemed to clear up. I haven't touched anything in 13 years now and am in good health

saltedunicorns · 01/08/2020 07:39

yes, i don't think it's a bad thing as long as you don't have responsibilities such as young children. i do think some drugs let you see the world in a different way, they can be eye opening Smile

Flamingolingo · 01/08/2020 07:41

It just wasn’t really my thing, but I would have had fairly easy access at university as drugs were rife, especially amongst some of my friendship groups. Like a few pp I’m one of those scared to death by a police visit in primary school, terrified that someone might shove an LSD impregnated sticker on me at any moment. I’ve never even smoked. But I know that if you know the right people drugs are fairly easy to access, that they will be offered, encouraged even (by some, usually just wanting to share the ‘fun’), so I worry for my kids. We live in a fairly affluent area and most of the friends I had at uni who dabbled were posh kids from naice posh homes who went to posh school and ended up with too much disposable income after Mummy and Daddy paid for all their living costs.

crosser62 · 01/08/2020 07:44

No.
But totally and completely put off by what I witness in my job.(been doing this job my entire adult life)
Horrific consequences and entire families devastated by drugs.
Not talking only chronic use here but recreational and one time only use.

Can’t even begin to describe those 12 hours with each family & watching a vibrant, healthy, with a whole life ahead of them young person die in the most horrific manner.

That kind of shit scars you and stay with you forever.

VictoriaBun · 01/08/2020 07:46

No I've never taken/ tried anything. But I might have been a one time drug dealer when my mum once mentioned she wanted to try a spliff and a friend gave me on for her to try

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/08/2020 07:54

I went to art college so yes! But nothing for 25 years, I don’t even drink anymore 🤦🏻‍♀️
