Slightly embarrassing - what to do with my peanut butter?

dun1urkin · 30/07/2020 21:51

I’m in my 40s
I’ve just bought my first jar of peanut butter and am ashamed to admit I’m feeling intimidated by it.
But fuck it, this is anonymous, so I thought I’d ask you all how to eat my peanut butter. Please give me your suggestions.

I’m not into baking, by the way, but am willing to try making something basic. Very basic.

I like peanut butter Hagen Dazs. A lot. Is peanut butter and ice cream a thing?

Should I just eat it on toast? Will it be claggy?

Is there a nice savoury thing I could try? I like chicken satay but wouldn’t order it IYSWIM

What’s the best way to eat it????

1 x tin of full fat coconut milk

1/2 - 3/4 of a jar of chunky peanut butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

3 tablespoons honey

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons lime juice

2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar

1 teaspoon sweet chilli sauce

Mix it all up in a pan, heat then simmer until it thickens. Don’t let it burn.

Amazing peanut satay sauce to add to any meat or use as dipping sauce.

You can pour the uncooked mixture over already cooked meat and let it cook until it thickens too. Only takes about 15 mins to thicken and my fave is peanut chicken with added bamboo shoots.

Strawberries topped with Greek yoghurt and a teaspoon (or two) of peanut butter

Toasted sourdough, thickly spread with peanut butter, crushed avocado and chilli flakes, topped with a little rocket and balsamic glaze. 🍞🥜🥑🌶️🥬👌

Cut apple in half. Remove core add blood of peanut butter. Eat.

Rice cake, peanut butter and sliced banana.

2tbsp peanut butter, tbsp of honey, 1 tbsp soy makes a good satay sauce for chicken/fish

TheQuaffle · 30/07/2020 22:47

Hmmm I add it to smoothies sometimes or it’s nice on toast with jam. Tbh it’s nice on a rice cracker too. I love crunchy posh PB but I have to admit I also like cheapo sugary ones like sunpat Blush

@Sockmonkeysloth

Once you’ve tried all these fairly safe ideas Wink, try a peanut butter and sliced gherkin sandwich. Food of the gods, I promise.

Also, if you get hiccups, a spoonful of peanut butter will get rid of them immediately Smile

I haven't tried gherkin with PB (sounds intriguing!) but I love PB and cucumber in a sandwich.

I hate smooth PB - crunchy all the way!

hadtojoin · 30/07/2020 22:50

Crunchy peanut and sliced banana sandwiches, and as a treat add some Marshmallow Fluff spread. (sold in supermarkets) or miss out the banana and just use PB and fluff. - I have to add Banana and fluff is really nice too.

MargotMoon · 30/07/2020 22:53

CELERY BOATS.

But I'd throw away the meridian and buy some nice sugar-packed Sun-Pat myself

Itwasntme1 · 30/07/2020 22:58

Another vote for celery.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Use smooth raps berry jam. Yum

PeacefulPlease · 30/07/2020 23:03

Definitely try it with apple slices x

AnnaSW1 · 30/07/2020 23:05

On toast or on oat cakes for me.

circumventgatekeeper · 30/07/2020 23:05

Toast and jam, toast and chocolate spread.
On a spoon with chocolate spread, with ice cream.
Mixed with soy sauce, rice wine and chilli and poured over chicken and cook.

iklboo · 30/07/2020 23:07

PEANUT BUTTER CHICKEN

Sarjest · 30/07/2020 23:09

The crunchier the better! I have just discovered Aldi’s ‘posh’ stuff and can’t resist random spoonfuls. Marmite and peanut butter is delicious! Or with jam. Or with a good quality chocolate spread. Enjoy!

Laufeythejust · 30/07/2020 23:10

Scoop it onto Oreos or literally anything, love the stuff.

scrunchSE18 · 30/07/2020 23:10

Peanut butter, marmite and cheddar toasted sandwich. Yum

Atthebottomofthegarden · 30/07/2020 23:14

On toast with banana. I prefer crunchy personally.

Also a good addition to curries (not Indian ones so much though).

Mskatonic · 30/07/2020 23:15

Slice cucumber into circles, drizzle over a bit of peanut butter - meridian is good for this as nice and runny, then top with sriracha sauce and coriander (optional if you like it). Amazing quick and tasty canapés.

shinynewapple2020 · 30/07/2020 23:18

Spread thinly on toast , add a layer of strawberry jam or marmite

Add a spoon to banana smoothie (just banana and milk , maybe a bit of cinnamon)

I also add to porridge if I am making with water so as to add protein. Normally add banana as well so similar flavour to milkshake as above

Atthebottomofthegarden · 30/07/2020 23:18

And Satay sauce of course. Yum.

shinynewapple2020 · 30/07/2020 23:19

@dun1urkin

Bloody hell

It’s Meridian Crunchy

Does that influence the suggestions?

I always have smooth. Whole Earth with no added sugar

shinynewapple2020 · 30/07/2020 23:22
@dun1urkin I bought my first jar in my 40’s too-to give to the baby! I still haven’t tried it, she loves it though. The texture weirds me out (ours is the super natural no salt pure sort), I imagine it’s revolting.
That's interesting, do they advise giving peanut butter to babies now? I'm sure when I had young DC anything peanutty was definitely out.

ChristmasinJune · 30/07/2020 23:23

I like it with fruit as it does get a bit "claggy" otherwise.

So spread on slices of apple is nice or
Crumpets with peanut butter and banana.

Serendipper · 30/07/2020 23:27

I like it spread on toast with cream cheese spread on top. I came about it after I made my son a slice of each on toast separately and he put them together. I obviously ate the left overs and loved it

RhapsodyandAshe · 30/07/2020 23:31

Sandwiches with chicken or ham in alongside peanut butter and butter. I usually toast the bread first but it works either way.
