Slightly embarrassing - what to do with my peanut butter?

dun1urkin · 30/07/2020 21:51

I’m in my 40s
I’ve just bought my first jar of peanut butter and am ashamed to admit I’m feeling intimidated by it.
But fuck it, this is anonymous, so I thought I’d ask you all how to eat my peanut butter. Please give me your suggestions.

I’m not into baking, by the way, but am willing to try making something basic. Very basic.

I like peanut butter Hagen Dazs. A lot. Is peanut butter and ice cream a thing?

Should I just eat it on toast? Will it be claggy?

Is there a nice savoury thing I could try? I like chicken satay but wouldn’t order it IYSWIM

What’s the best way to eat it????

It's brilliant with good vanilla ice cream. Just realised should probably be amazing with raspberry ripple (the peanut butter/jam thing).

vampirethriller · 31/07/2020 07:05

On toast with set honey.

Snailsetssail · 31/07/2020 07:11

Mix it with some dry oats, raisins and honey and roll into balls. Stick in the fridge. Makes amazing flapjacky type snacks!

for a delicious savoury meal using peanut butter:

cook rice and your fave combination of 2 or 3 things you might otherwise put in a curry - potentially meat or fish if you like such things, mushrooms, roasted peppers, aubergines, green beans, broccoli are all things I have chosen in the past.

mix the rice and other stuff and stir in 1 generous tbsp Peanut Butter, one little pot of this splendid seasoning and tinned coconut milk (half a tin if cooking for 2, a whole tin if cooking for the family)

squeeze in the juice of a lime and a generous amount of fresh coriander. salt & pepper to taste if you wish.

We eat this at least once a week, it is lush. I dislike peanut butter on it's own but love this meal.

I tried the peanut butter cookies this week but found them far too sweet. What can I use as a sugar substitute?

JingsMahBucket · 31/07/2020 07:23

@dun1urkin if you like to mix savoury and sweet, then try an apple, peanut butter, bacon (thick cut!), and alfalfa sprout sandwich. I had it in a café in NYC nearly 20 years ago and still remember it and love it.

Here’s a recipe if you need guidance www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/peanut-butter-apple-and-bacon-sandwiches-12028/amp

JingsMahBucket · 31/07/2020 07:25

@dementedma just dramatically reduce the sugar. Or find an American recipe that’s not necessarily as sweet. British recipes are toothachingly sweet and full of sugar.

thesunwillout · 31/07/2020 07:25

On those Ryvitas that that have fruit bits in.
Lots of crunching involved, makes a good snack.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 31/07/2020 07:26

Put it in the bin.

One of the upsides to DD moving out was I never had to have that stuff in my house again.

BikeRunSki · 31/07/2020 07:31

On bread
On toast
On crackers
On rice cakes
On crumpets

Or mix with coconut milk, lime juice and sweet chilli sauce for satay sauce.

JingsMahBucket · 31/07/2020 07:34

@dementedma here’s a good peanut butter cookie recipe for you that already has half cup less sugar than the BBC recipe www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/peanut_butter_cookies/

whichteaareyou · 31/07/2020 07:39

Peanut butter and sliced banana is lush!

SoosanCarter · 31/07/2020 07:46

I use it to bait mouse traps.

dun1urkin · 31/07/2020 07:48

Morning everyone
Sorry I disappeared, it wasn’t peanut butter related. I live in Greater Manchester and had just noticed the news, got distracted.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your ideas with me

I’ll definitely be trying the simple cookies, some of the ‘on toast’ suggestions, anything related to ice cream, and also the savoury recipes and ideas are really appreciated.

I promise I’ll come back and tell you all how I get on Grin

Put it in Apple it's the best!

Deathraystare · 31/07/2020 08:32

Sorry I disappeared, it wasn’t peanut butter related.

(Snort!) Well that's a relief!

I used to love peanut butter as a kid but find it too claggy now. I keep a jar in though for 'emergency sandwiches' - thogh I have to be desperate! Or, in stir fries for a satay sauce.

isitorisntit · 31/07/2020 09:10

I don't eat it any more as I've gone back to being veggie, but it's good with smoked streaky bacon in a sarnie.

I add it to a veggie chilli.

Cookies.

Mix it with sweet chilli sauce and coconut milk for a stir fry/satay sauce.

Fill your celery with it.

Put it in corncakes and add sliced banana on top...

isitorisntit · 31/07/2020 09:14

I'm really surprised by the number of people who have butter with peanut butter. I always thought you went withoutnas it's too greasy. But then I lived on peanut Butter on toast topped with salad cream when I was a kid. Try it. You might like it! 😋

Have you tried the Pip and Nut brand - this is the least claggy peanut butter I've ever had, and I've tried loads over the years :)
Beachhuts90 · 31/07/2020 10:11

I had it on apple slices this morning and on toast with a bit of honey drizzled over it yesterday. But my fave is peanut butter and jam. Classic. Best on white farmhouse loaf you have to slice yourself. I prefer apricot jam but any type will work.

Happynow001 · 31/07/2020 10:22

@dun1urkin

Bloody hell

It’s Meridian Crunchy

Does that influence the suggestions?

I hope that's the new "Rich Roast" one. Utterly delicious and great on anything and also just straight from the spoon. I'm stocking up..
Blueuggboots · 31/07/2020 10:24

Teaspoon in a smoothie. on toast or sandwich. Try it with Apple. Or cheese. Or jam. Or coleslaw. Or marmite.

Blueuggboots · 31/07/2020 10:24

I love a spoonful in porridge with chopped banana.

Ninkanink · 31/07/2020 10:25

On toast/bread with honey.

On toast/bread with sliced banana.

On thick white bread, with Nutella on top.

Baked into brownies.

Ninkanink · 31/07/2020 10:26

Oh and satay sauce!
