Slightly embarrassing - what to do with my peanut butter?

I’m in my 40s
I’ve just bought my first jar of peanut butter and am ashamed to admit I’m feeling intimidated by it.
But fuck it, this is anonymous, so I thought I’d ask you all how to eat my peanut butter. Please give me your suggestions.

I’m not into baking, by the way, but am willing to try making something basic. Very basic.

I like peanut butter Hagen Dazs. A lot. Is peanut butter and ice cream a thing?

Should I just eat it on toast? Will it be claggy?

Is there a nice savoury thing I could try? I like chicken satay but wouldn’t order it IYSWIM

What’s the best way to eat it????

Mmm, peanut butter is lush....
peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies
On toast with banana
With slices of apple dipped in it
Mixed with chilli sauce for a satay dip
Melted with nutella on pancakes or waffles

This thread is making me drool. I adore peanut butter but my DS is anaphylactic to peanuts and tree nuts so we cant have it, or any other nut butters or peanut/nut products in the house. We have sunflower or pumpkin seed butters but they are not the same. Sad I buy PB and eat it out of the jar with a teaspoon, alone in hotel rooms when on business trips, but obviously there have been none of those for a long time now.Blush
But a more civilised thing is to spread it thickly on toast. Ideally, a good chunk of wholemeal or seeded bread. It does actually taste surprisingly good with jam on toast. I was fed by an American flat mate as a student many, many years ago and was amazed that it wasn't disgusting.

I make a cheats satay sauce that the kids love and scoff (and so do we)

Relatively equal amounts of peanut butter, soy sauce and sweet chilli sauce. Mix together then chuck over the cooking chicken or stir fry and loosen with a little water if needed. It only takes a minute, is delicious and easy and the kids will eat anything coated in it

I also buy Meridan and we love it on toast and bagels - sometimes with sliced banana.

It's also delicious on sliced apple and very filling

A lady I used to work with made peanut butter and Nutella toasties in a toastie maker at work and they always looked amazing!

I love peanut butter. On toast, on crumpets mmmm.

And it is great in savoury dishes. I do a cheats pad Thai with it and a lovely African peanut stew. I’ve even added some to veg chilli.

AdaColeman · 30/07/2020 22:19

Collect together: peanut butter, cold milk, vanilla coffee toffee or chocolate ice cream, a good slug of Baileys.
Blend everything together briefly, pour into a pint glass and enjoy. Alternatively, don’t blend the ice cream but add it as a float, this makes it into more of a pudding experience!

Fill the hollow in sticks of celery with PB, chop into bite size pieces, serve as aperos.

hartof · 30/07/2020 22:19

Slice a pink lady Apple and scoop the butter with it 😍

AuntieMarys · 30/07/2020 22:20

I made a satay sauce tonight with sweet chilli sauce, peanut butter and lime juice. Yum.

Mum2jenny · 30/07/2020 22:20

I only use peanut butter to make satay sauce. I do not use it for anything else although some family members will put it on toast and such like.

Peanut butter and honey sandwich

wheresmyliveship · 30/07/2020 22:22

Never ever with butter/marg!?

On a bagel is my personal fave.

On any type of (lightly toasted) bread, preferably with banana on top (sliced, but can be mashed).

Start there, then go crazy

lljkk · 30/07/2020 22:22

super nice is to lightly toast bread, put peanut butter on it, then put that PB'd toast under the grill for a few minutes. Warms and slightly melts the peanut butter. omg, divine!

Fred578 · 30/07/2020 22:22

Open the bin, insert peanut butter, close bin. In my experience that is the only way to enjoy peanut butter. It is made from Satan’s arse juice.

Peanut butter cookies, 4 ingredients and ready in less than 30 minutes www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/peanut-butter-cookies?utm_source=app

Delbelleber · 30/07/2020 22:26

Wth your first jar of peanut butter? That is insane!
I like it on toast with butter, honey and banana. Yum yum.

Nookable · 30/07/2020 22:27

I love it for breakfast on toasted fruit toast or cinnamon raisin bagel with thinly sliced apple on top

Or put in the groove of a stick of celery (in the US they add either chocolate chips or raisins and call it ants on a log Grin)

For savoury use African peanut/groundnut stew is really nice.

smashedhen · 30/07/2020 22:29

It will make you fart. I'm telling you this as a precaution

Littlepond · 30/07/2020 22:31

Ooh PB&J
I love a peanut butter and jam sandwich. Or on toast.

Or make peanut butter cookies - rainy butter, sugar, egg. Mix and bake. Ohhh yummmm

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 30/07/2020 22:31

On Apple slices

Letmegetthisrightasawoman · 30/07/2020 22:31

@Mattberryshair far from vom-inducing, your kid has the right idea with PB and cheese, best combo ever!!! You can leave out the bread😅

My dad also taught me the PB and banana sandwich combo, but I no longer eat bananas.

CeibaTree · 30/07/2020 22:33

On a crumpet (with butter too for total decadence). Also a banana and peanut butter thickshake/smoothie would be a good way to consume it too :)

fitflopqueen · 30/07/2020 22:33

PB biscuits - PB, oats, egg, maple syrup all blended together, scoop desired size onto baking sheet, flatten slightly with fork, bake 10-15 mins. add a little sea salt whilst cooling. very tasty.
post run smoothie - large spoonful of PB blended with half a banana, frozen raspberries and some milk.
With sliced apple, with ricecakes or on toast, love them all.

Also when doing a mid week veg/rice stir fry - a big dollop gives it a lift.
I used to hate PB until I had kids.

Sockmonkeysloth · 30/07/2020 22:34

Once you’ve tried all these fairly safe ideas Wink, try a peanut butter and sliced gherkin sandwich. Food of the gods, I promise.

Also, if you get hiccups, a spoonful of peanut butter will get rid of them immediately Smile

bananacustard01 · 30/07/2020 22:34

Peanut butter & jam on toast, bread or Ryvita
Peanut butter on slices of apple
Peanut butter on a spoon
Or my latest and possibly most delicious invention - peanut butter spread on a dark chocolate corn cake from Sainsbury's, dark choc rice cake would work too but not as delicious.
I'm going to make one right now Grin

GemmeFatale · 30/07/2020 22:37

Not authentic thai chicken noodle soup.

Fry chicken (or prawns or tofu I guess) in red Thai curry paste. Add green beans and sliced peppers. Dollop in peanut butter. Add chicken/veg stock and a tin of coconut milk. Bring to a gentle boil. Chuck in noodles. Just as the noodles are done add lime zest and juice, along with sliced spring onions and chillis and chopped coriander. Serve. Or serve then do the lime/onion/herb bit.

Inthemuckheap · 30/07/2020 22:40

Fill celery sticks with it.
