I graduated to Whizzer and Chips from Twinkle The Comic for Little Girls. My sister had the Topper. We were unimpressed with Bunty, Judy and the like so then moved on to Jackie and Blue Jeans.

The Dandy of course.

FredaFrogspawn · 18/07/2020 20:01

Our walls were covered in our fave pin-ups from the comics. Hers was David Cassidy and mine was David Essex. We also likes David Bowie. All those Daves.

I'd forgotten all about Twinkle! I had that, then graduated to Bunty and M&J. (I think Mandy and Judy combined )

I had Twinkle, then nothing. My sister had a really well known pop magazine - can't remember the name for the life of me! It'll pop into my brain around midnight Grin one month she got a free Adam Ant skull and crossbones earring, I was very jealous! This was pre-Smash Hits.

Age 12-16 I got Vogue, bought with my own pocket money.

FredaFrogspawn · 18/07/2020 20:02

The naughty characters were Dennis the Menace in the Beano, Mini The Minx in the Topper and Beryl the Peril - was she in The Dandy?

I had Whoopee! My favourite was the Bumpkin Billionaires. And then when I was older I had Jackie and then Record Mirror. Oh happy days

FredaFrogspawn · 18/07/2020 20:04

I’m in awe of 12 Year Old you with your Vogue!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/07/2020 20:05

Bunty and Girl Talk!!

madwoman1ntheattic · 18/07/2020 20:05

Beryl was in the dandy, yes.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/07/2020 20:06

Mandy. I loved those stories of orphaned girls who had unknown living wealthy relatives etc. Sometimes Bunty, for the four Marys. My sister had twinkle for the cut out outfits for paper dolls. It came every Saturday with the paper for my parents, I’d sit at the bottom of the stairs awaiting the paper boy at 7am.

Bubbletrouble43 · 18/07/2020 20:07

Yes I had twinkle and my older brother had Roy of the rovers which I LOVED. Then we moved onto Buster and whizzer and chips.

ImOnTheWrongPlanet · 18/07/2020 20:07

I had Twinkle. And as I got a bit older the Topper was my favourite comic. My brother always had the Dandy.

When I was about 7 I got given a pile of Jackie's by a teenaged ndn. I felt terribly grown up 😄

SallyOMalley · 18/07/2020 20:07

Ah ... Bunty, Tammy, Misty (all spooky stories), Jackie and I think I then got Just Seventeen when Jackie ceased publication. Very 70s / early 80s!

Clawdy · 18/07/2020 20:07

Bunty - loved it. "Moira Kent - Dancing Ballerina".

EmbarrassedUser · 18/07/2020 20:07

Not a comic but I used to love Fast Forward and then when I got older Mizz and Just 17.

ChicCroissant · 18/07/2020 20:08

Oh yes, Teddy Bear/Twinkle when young, then Tammy, then Jackie and Smash Hits. Golden years!

SallyOMalley · 18/07/2020 20:09

Well, I got that wrong. Jackie stopped later than I thought, in 1993. I must have just swapped to just seventeen at some point.
ImOnTheWrongPlanet · 18/07/2020 20:09

Of and as I became a teenager I had Look-In and of course Smash Hits.

MulticolourMophead · 18/07/2020 20:09

I had Misty. Mum would read it after I did Grin

ShoppingBasket · 18/07/2020 20:10

I grew up abroad and every week my Grandad used to post The Dandy and The Beano out to me. I still remember the excitement when they arrived and how my Mum had to flatten them out with a heavy book before I could read them (they came rolled up).

LaTomatina · 18/07/2020 20:10

I had the Beano, then Bunty. My brother got Shoot and then Look In.

BuffaloMozzerella · 18/07/2020 20:13

I had Smash Hits and Big! in the 90s.
