Did you have a weekly comic as a child?

I graduated to Whizzer and Chips from Twinkle The Comic for Little Girls. My sister had the Topper. We were unimpressed with Bunty, Judy and the like so then moved on to Jackie and Blue Jeans.

Twinkle
Mandy
Horse and Pony (think that’s what it was called)
Smash Hits
Just 17

Beano on Saturday & The Dandy on Wednesday.
The paper boy delivered them, there was always a fight with my 2 brothers who wanted to read them first. Our dog was called Gnasher.

The Star Trek comic which was only available from one newsagent in the city, it was original series... Which luckily for me was the one by where my mum worked Saturday's and my dad would take me to buy a comic.

Neither were ever impressed by my choice.
They both spent a fortune on "more suitable" comics for years Confused

noraclavicle · 18/07/2020 22:09

Oh yes! Twinkle, then The Dandy, then Girl, then Just Seventeen, then Smash Hits, then via a slight monthly detour to Vogue and Elle, NME. I like a bit of variety Grin

Bbq1 · 18/07/2020 22:10

Oh, yes Horse & Pony! I was horse mad! I still love them now. It's sad so many comics have disappeared.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 18/07/2020 22:11

Did anyone have the Joy of Knowledge? It wouldn’t work now, post internet. I kept my bound volumes until I left the UK nine years ago.

My DH had it too.

noraclavicle · 18/07/2020 22:11

and Bunty! I’d forgotten about that and the Four Marys!

noraclavicle · 18/07/2020 22:12

Did anyone ever use the Four Marys as a band name?

noraclavicle · 18/07/2020 22:14

I don’t recall Joy of Knowledge MooseBeTimeForSummer but my school used to get Look and Learn, which always gathered dust unloved and unread on a windowsill (used to leaf through it surreptitiously on occasion though)

Morgana7 · 18/07/2020 22:19

I had them in this order:
Dandy
Beano
Bunty
Girl Talk
Smash Hits
Shout
Mizz
Sugar
J17
19
More

Mustbetimeforachange · 18/07/2020 22:19

I think I had Bunty untill I was about 11, & then switched to Jackie, which my dad thought was far too grown up for me.

Bloodybridget · 18/07/2020 22:21

What I remember: some shared with my brother, and we wouldn't have had more than one a week:
Harold Hare
Beezer
Beano
Judy
Jackie
Cosmopolitan

TotalEclipseOfTheHeartAndSoul · 18/07/2020 22:22

When I was about 10 around the early 80s I got a girls comic called Dreamer. I was always desperate to get it from the local newsagents. It didn't seem to last long.

FindMeInTheSunshine · 18/07/2020 22:28

Jinty for me, because I thought the stories were the best, but hardly anyone remembers it!

TotalEclipseOfTheHeartAndSoul · 18/07/2020 22:29

Neighneigh I remember Sky! I think U got the first edition or early ones. I remember reading an interview with Jonathan Ross when he was first on TV. I get it for years but sadly think it was thrown out. It was about 1987.

TotalEclipseOfTheHeartAndSoul · 18/07/2020 22:30

I not U.

PepperMooMoo · 18/07/2020 22:30

I used to read Twinkle, then Mizz, then Sugar and Bliss! I can't remember what 'Love, Lisa" was in? A photo strip of diary entries from an angst ridden Lisa!

loobylou10 · 18/07/2020 22:36

Blue Jeans and Jackie

buzz91 · 18/07/2020 22:39

Beano. I got one for nostalgia the other month - it’s so expensive and all the characters I loved are gone, plus comic book paper is no more

Longdistance · 18/07/2020 22:42

I had Twinkle as a kid, as I became a teenager it was Mizz and Smash Hits magazine.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 18/07/2020 22:42

Twinkle to start with, then was a huge Dandy fan - got it delivered every week and had to try and beat my Dad to the letterbox as he always wanted to read it as well Grin
When a bit older liked Patches, Blue Jeans, Hi! and Just Seventeen.

CandyflossKid · 18/07/2020 22:44

Twinkle when I was little.
Smash Hits and Just 17 when I was a teenager

mum2jakie · 18/07/2020 22:56

Oh I used to love getting Twinkle every week! I remember being obsessed by the dressing up page but I would never sully my comics by cutting them up!

I also had the whole set of the little Blobs books from the same comic. Fab memories!
