Shocker. Lovely. That's me and others firmly told how unwanted we are.

ISaySteadyOn · 21/07/2020 18:37

Meaning the article in Helena's post, not you SirSamuel.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 21/07/2020 18:41

Another poster has started a thread asking about peoples opinions on the vaccine! Poor person has been torn to threads! They may well have asked what's peoples opinions of going out in a crowd with a loaded shotgun and using it!! Xx

Don't worry, I understood! Smile
TheOrchidKiller · 21/07/2020 18:50

The lawyer's story, well, it's shocking but unsurprising. Even quite nice people are being very vocal about how everyone- no excuses should be wearing masks.

The lack of compassion is so depressing. I mean, it's always been there, but it's so much worse now.

110APiccadilly · 21/07/2020 19:19

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath I may be wrong, but I have a feeling I live near the Welsh beach you could get to on the train. Feel free to PM me about what's open here!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 21/07/2020 19:21

Went to Aldi for the first time in forever today. The woman in the till was LOVING her military status elevation barking “could you please STAND BACK/move forward/put your shopping on the belt”. Loving it.

It brought to mind a Lily Savage sketch where he’s admonished at the airport for smoking in a non-smoking zone and the jobsworth points to the sign and says “can’t you read? NO SMOKING”.

Lily: “of course I can fucking read, that’s why I don’t work in an airport”.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 21/07/2020 19:51

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane ah that's a shame about your Aldi, mine has been great throughout, really chilled. I'm going to miss going as much after Mask Day.

IAintentDead · 21/07/2020 19:58

Love that - not crazy about Lily or Paul as he is now but that is one brilliant answer.

Pennypie · 21/07/2020 20:14

These AD threads are keeping me sane.
Thank you Flowers

SockYarn · 21/07/2020 20:20

My Aldi is fine too, @InsaneInTheViralMembrane. The only hazard is getting sucked in by the random aisle of tat.

DH and I walked to the local coffee shop this afternoon and had CAKE. It was lovely and normal.

BakewellTarts · 21/07/2020 20:22

Hi everyone. Checking in. Busy in real life enjoying my mums company and the beautiful countryside she lives in. Feels very normal. Have not ventured elsewhere on MN though!

Countdown to masks on Friday. I think I'm resigned to it now but will do the minimum to comply with the rules. Lots of hugs and support to those who are struggling for reasons.

IAintentDead · 21/07/2020 20:22

Aldi has been great locally. No unnecessary messing about.

One of them even had a traffic light system which locked the doors and people could only go in on green. No need for someone stood there 'in charge' (having said that, everywhere I have been these people have been great).

My son works for one of the teams of architects that design/adapt Aldi sites. They have had a rush to design covered walkways around the shop to cope with possible winter queuing (about 6 weeks ago - I don't know if they are going ahead. We agreed it would make more sense to have 'in car' queuing - at least in part. Ticket as you enter the carpark and a number coming up on a board when can enter. Foot traffic given some - but not total - priority.

Orangeblossom78 · 21/07/2020 20:23

I had to go pay in all this money today in notes at the post office, no masks, dementors would have hated it...everyone was nice and smiley and no one was strange to me, thought would do it before Friday.

littlbrowndog · 21/07/2020 20:27

Just assuring people.

I don’t wear masks at shops and it’s been mandatory here in Scotland.

Nobody blinks or says anything. Some staff don’t wear masks in shops.

Been to Aldi Lidl markies and Asda co op

But I never have been to a wee shop yet so I guess I would give them a swerve

Worldgonecrazy · 21/07/2020 20:36

Aldi CEO has released email to customers reminding that not all disabilities are visible.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 21/07/2020 20:37

browndog it’s the opposite here - aldi/coop/marks all masktastic and the village shop “do what you want”.

Bit disappointed with Aldi tbh. I went with a view to buying some random crap and NOTHING appealed!

littlbrowndog · 21/07/2020 21:03

Haha yea( agree there was nothing in aisles of possible excitement

Yeah most people ar3 wearing the masks but if you don’t no one says a word.

But the atmosphere is a bit grim tbh.

Before the masks came in it was pretty ok. Now it’s like get shopping fast as and get out for everyone.

So no browsing. And I found the shops are quieter now than pre mask

Was that the aim ?

Orangeblossom78 · 21/07/2020 21:06

I think the aim was to make people feel 'safe' to go in the shops, but not sure. It's a bit odd when the staff don't wear them.

From Friday don't think we need them for the sports centre, or cafe's / food so if I just avoid shops in general should be relatively easy I guess.

Still doing most food shopping online anyway, so would just need for trips for milk / bread

TheOrchidKiller · 21/07/2020 21:07

Trying to distract myself by looking for crochet patterns, with a plan to start a new blanket.

And what do I find? A pattern for a crocheted mask. I think it had a fabric inner lining so the holes aren't a problem. Had a flasback to the 1970s & those macrame plant pot holders that were all the rage.

Would've posted a picture but I skipped past to the pretty blankets I will spend a fortune on yarn for, start but take 2 years to finish.

SomewhereEast · 21/07/2020 21:07

Bit late to the party, but I'm a solid been-on-marches-and-everything Remainer & some (ok...quite a few) Remain activists have just lost the plot on this one. I had to have a massive unfollowing spree on Twitter because it was just insane. I'm homeless politically in that I"m fairly left wing but I also have a libertarian streak, which is an unusual combination in the UK. Basically I think the state should have a strong safety net but leave everyone the fuck alone otherwise Grin.

DominaShantotto · 21/07/2020 21:12

I think entrance to the local Aldi is now enforced by the Aldi Cat who sits in the middle of the plants at the entrance collecting ear scratches and fusses. He lives in the housing estate next to the store and when it was built it became his daytime attention gathering haunt... to the point he now has his own facebook account!

Oh god there were loads around the US crochet groups at the start of this - all followed by about 9million posts that it needed a liner/had a liner/didn't you know it needs a liner?

When internet crochet groups go barmy (particularly the US-centric ones) they go absolutely batshit insane in the most entertaining way. I've been known to follow crochet-alongs just for the inevitable moment they descend into drama.

TheOrchidKiller · 21/07/2020 21:14

Here you go, crochet masks. (Definitely not sanitary towels).

This one is something else!

(I need to step away from the crochet hooks now)
