Glad to be of service, SomewhereEast.

I'm also thinking that the Mask Awareness Course should have the inevitable role-play (scenario: how to communicate effectively when the girl in Costa mishears your muffled order), rote-learning & chanting ("I'm protecting you, you're protecting me"), & a demonstration of how to sanitise hands and put on /take off masks correctly, done in a bored way like the safety demo on a plane.
All rote-learning will be done in a soft voice so as not to spread the virus no one has.
There will be a comfort break where vapers & smokers can gather out the back by the bins.
There will be a multiple choice test at the end (sample question "Which mask is being worn correctly?" & a choice of pictures of a surgeon at work, and two shoppers with masks on top of their heads).

Will masks be mandatory on the Mask Awareness Course? Well, the Leader would be more comfortable if you wore one but he can't make you, and he's still trying to make sense of the official guidance, but his aunty knows a nurse, so.....

@Orangeblossom78 oof that telegraph article takes no prisoners! 😲

BellaintheWychElm · 23/07/2020 17:42

I really want to go on a mask awareness course now

PickAChew · 23/07/2020 18:02

@BamboozledandBefuddled that's my chances of getting back to the Metrocentre with DS1 completely scuppered for the foreseeable. Might as well tattoo his forehead.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/07/2020 18:03

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito

Indeed - I might start a thread next week about the lack of people in masks shopping on the high street and aren't they terrible for not saving the economy as well as saving lives.

Dooooooo it... Grin

Yesssssss! Do it!
Orangeblossom78 · 23/07/2020 18:05

I'm going early to the swimming pool to help them with a training day tomorrow ready for the weekend so that will be interesting. Wonder how it goes!

Orangeblossom78 · 23/07/2020 18:09

There is another one in the Telegraph about how people need to stop dementing about the second wave and learn to live with it...that was quite interesting as well. And it being blissful in Holland- no masks and could forget about it for a bit. Not sure what it means when I feel more at hime reading these, as not that keen on the paper usually

PickAChew · 23/07/2020 18:10

Maybe a mask awareness course should be the theme for the next thread, though it'd probably attract unsympathetic sorts, so maybe not.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/07/2020 18:15

I keep seeing dementors frothing that the infection rate is up. Obvs because some people went to the pub...

I pointed out that it may be more of an effect of track and test. So for instance the funeral where 250 people ended up testing positive. Previously one may have got covid and got tested and isolated.
Anyone else who subsequently got it will either be asymptomatic and not tested or just got mildly ill and rode it out. They will now be getting tested.
I'm sure I read in one of the areas door to door testing was happening. So because testing is now more targeted as well as more accessible then it stands to reason it will pick up more cases.
But particularly with the track and trace effect this will help slow the rate of transmission so over time it should come down again.
I'm sure that's what happened in a lot of other countries too.

I got so many vile responses (this was on fb). I don't know why I bother engaging. And how on earth these awful, shouty bullies can paint themselves as the virtuous saviours of mankind is beyond me.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/07/2020 18:16

@PickAChew
How about "ADs go no knickers on an awareness course"

I've kept mask out the title to stop us being invaded.....

BamboozledandBefuddled · 23/07/2020 18:18

You'd think a company in adminstration might be trying to keep customers, not drive them away Confused

Orangeblossom78 · 23/07/2020 18:21

I wondered that same kind of thing Livin, and also if the higher rates in more ethnically diverse areas was due to higher rates if people having symptoms, maybe other areas have higher rates too but less getting tested due to having less symptoms.... some people don't really discuss things like that though and just dementor on- lack of critical thinking perhaps

Willow2017 · 23/07/2020 18:21

Maybe because without shouting, swearing and weeping and wailing and of course DESPAIRING nobody would pay them the slightest bit of notice?

NannyPhlegm · 23/07/2020 18:24

I went for my long awaited haircut today. I had to wear a face mask, and I actually support having to do so in this instance as we're in such close proximity with the hairdresser. However, the entire experience was horrifically soulless even putting aside the masks.

And my long-term hairdresser has turned to the dark side over lockdown, and salivated over a second national lockdown the entire time he was cutting my hair. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I think I'm going to grow my hair long, so I don't need frequent cuts.

Willow2017 · 23/07/2020 18:31

You should have told him he was supposed to be making you feel better not depressing the life out of you. Imagine spouting that over and over for each customer?😞
I would have had to say no there won't be another national lockdown do you want the country to go completely bankrupt? Nobody seems to think further than the latest fb sound bite!

wanderings · 23/07/2020 18:39

@NannyPhlegm Blimey. What planet is your hairdresser on? If he had done that to me, I would have emailed explaining why I would never be coming back. (I would not say anything during the haircut, in case he deliberately botched it.)

NannyPhlegm · 23/07/2020 18:41

@Willow2017 I said to him that if it's such a certainty, then I should get out and enjoy summer to the fullest. I thanked him for showing me the light, and booked a restaurant on my phone (well, pretended to) for this weekend. And then pretended to text friends telling them we should meet up in the garden several times before the second lockdown. And told him he's given me a zest for life.

You should have seen his head explode Grin

Well, you could only part-see his eyeballs as he had a mask AND a visor, but he did shut up about the second LOCKDOWN after that Grin

To be very selfish, he's amazing with my hair and I'm prepared to ignore his patter because he's so good at his job.
And I did enjoy winding him up Blush

Orangeblossom78 · 23/07/2020 18:49

Are they not meant to talk about holidays? You would think would be a bit more, um sensitive.

ADs Go Commando for Awareness ???

torydeathdrug · 23/07/2020 18:59

when you look at the case numbers from the date the test was done (specimen date not report date) there's barely any change in numbers at all. About 550 cases a day in England on average for the last couple of weeks. Since the point of test & trace is to pick up asymptomatic infections in hot spots it would be a bit concerning if the numbers were still going down ... there should be extra testing & extra cases detected in those areas!

Willow2017 · 23/07/2020 19:02

Nanny
Brilliant response. Bet he was confused for the rest of the day that you weren't freaking out about it.😉

Willow2017 · 23/07/2020 19:26

No no no I will not go on that vile thread I will get banned.
It should have more holes in it than Swiss cheese by now but all the vile comments are left up.

It's absolutely terrifying how people on here many who have children can turn en masse against a mum who had an awful experience looking for support. What are they teaching thier kids?
