@InsaneInTheViralMembrane

Btw, there’s no need to run 50km. Petrol is very Cheap right now and there are various bike recycling schemes should you prefer.
Worse than that - I have paid actual money to enter this event. So not only am I running 50km, I will only end up about 15km from where I started when we finish (U shaped course) and I will have paid to do this. Plus travel and hotel.

And this is what I do for fun. You should see me when I'm doing something I don't want to do...

NothingIsWrong · 20/07/2020 08:23

@TheOrchidKiller

"If the fire alarm goes off, you MUST maintain social distancing when evacuating the shop".

I can confirm that social distancing went out the window when the fire alarm went off at work the other week!

They've since implemented a "one person only on the stairs" rule. Not in a fire, mate!

Yup, I was in our main office and the fire alarm went off, not a drill. No distancing in evidence.

Apparently a spider got into one of the detectors and SADLY DIED...

SockYarn · 20/07/2020 08:25

to be fair, @TheOrchidKiller it was a box ticking exercise. We all had to sign an official paper to say the roolz had been explained to us and we agreed to stick to them.

So that in the incredibly unlikely event someone catches it, and in the even unlikelier even that it can be traced back to the charity shop, we can't sue them.

lljkk · 20/07/2020 08:55

I went into my office yesterday, 1st time in 4 months. I plan to work there on weekends only in August when my son is home on leave (military) & needs his room back. I am only 60% FTE (thank you Lockdown for job insecurity) so that will be enough hours, with the huge amount extra I did in April-June.

I can't figure out the 1-way system in the corridors. They seem to literally all point at my office & no way out! I think I'm supposed to use an exterior card-access door I don't have card-access to, or I am supposed to use a door somewhere obscure & far away & wander in a byzantine route around the multi-story huge building (on different floors, up and down), back and forth) to get in. Also, I haven't figured out the officially approved ways to reach toilets or a kitchen which journeys will no doubt considerably increase my daily step count, too. The officially approved route to the out-of-hours sign-in sheet must be especially long. I know it's one person only in kitchen areas, not sure about toilet capacity. I had bratty high spirited DC with me yesterday so didn't explore the arrows properly, will try it next weekend maybe.

Lickyicelollies · 20/07/2020 08:58

@TheOrchidKiller no worries - I'm happy for folks to make light of a shitty situation. If you don't laugh you'll cry right?!

@SockYarn better to die in a fire than SADLY die of covid eh?! Give me strength...

@PinkFondantFancy

Anyone want to join a bit of a 'lose the lockdown lard/get healthier again' thread or group? I really really need to get an urgent grip of myself, I'm really disappointed how much I've trashed my body since March and it wasn't exactly a temple then to start with :(
Morning All. I am definitely on for joining that thread. I have put on about 7kg over lockdown Confused One plus is I have decent sized boobs now. They'll be the first thing to go.

Green list for travel coming out here today. I am keeping the fingers crossed the UK is on it but I'd be surprised.

Hiking and sea swimming the highlight of my weekend. Sweet Jesus the water was baltic.

Livin those nails are fab.

Worldgonecrazy · 20/07/2020 09:13

Looks like the media are finally getting the AD viewpoint.

Reports of 200,000 deaths caused by lockdown. And those will be sadly died deaths because a lot of them won’t be elderly Alzheimer’s patients but young people who would have had years ahead of them.

I feel like I’m a bundle of righteous anger in a sea of dementors at the moment.

Worldgonecrazy · 20/07/2020 09:14

@NowYouListenToMeFella. I would love to try sea swimming but the water is so cold. Does it get any easier?

SockYarn · 20/07/2020 09:15

I don't follow Denise Welch on Twitter but something she tweeted popped up on my feed this morning:

"So 9 people died yesterday from Covid, 20 from suicide and nearly 500 from cancer. Let’s remember the other horrible things that need prioritising again now."

She's spot on.

It's quite worrying when we're relying on Loose Women to provide the voice of sanity.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 20/07/2020 09:22

OK, I think my workplace deserves credit for not being too dementory. The fire safety signs do specifically say that in the event of a fire, the focus is on getting everyone safely out of the building and people should not stick to social distancing if it hinders that.

IAintentDead · 20/07/2020 09:23

When you did in the fire just make sure you have left a message somewhere saying that you had a cough a couple of months ago and since then you haven't been able to smell or taste anything and then 'Yours Too Can be a Sadly Death'.
😁

IAintentDead · 20/07/2020 09:27

*die ... fire NOT did

Pleasedontdothat · 20/07/2020 09:31

@LivinLaVidaLoki that takes judgy memes to a whole new level

Lots of people on my local email group (we’re very behind the times here in SW London Hmm) have started signing off with ‘I keep you safe, you keep me safe’ - I always imagine it being said in a passive-aggressive sing-songy way and it makes my toes curl every time I see it .. they’re all rabid mask aficionados

I have various objections to masks - mainly that at this point they’re pretty useless in reducing infections and have lots of unintended consequences, including ramping up the general sense of fear and anxiety in an extremely unhelpful way. However, being a generally law-abiding person, I will reluctantly wear a mask when I absolutely have to - I will avoid those situations as much as I can though.

I’ve been quite dismayed at how politically homeless I’ve become. The vast majority of my friends are left of centre Guardian-readers and they’re all busily posting selfies of themselves in rainbow masks (NHS tribute obvs). If I ever venture onto Twitter I get shown tweets from rabid brexiteers and Trump supporters because I’ve followed a couple of people posting a more optimistic take on the Covid statistics - I thought their algorithms were a bit more sophisticated than that but obviously if you have questions about masks or ponder whether or not lockdown was necessary then obviously you’re a right wing nutter Hmm

NowYouListenToMeFella · 20/07/2020 09:35
@NowYouListenToMeFella. I would love to try sea swimming but the water is so cold. Does it get any easier?
It took all I had not to let a roar out of me when I got down. So nice though. I must make more of an effort with it now. I got out of the habit.

Worldgonecrazy · 20/07/2020 09:54

This is a daft question but does it feel not too bad once you start swimming? It’s that ankle deep bit that is so cold it hurts my joints. I find it really difficult to get past that bit.

NannyPhlegm · 20/07/2020 10:02

I'm having this problem too. I followed a couple of sane lockdown sceptics. I scrolled through their past tweets and they're not rabid Brexiteers, but were making sane points saying we need some stability and referenda cannot just be ignored without consequences. They are most definitely not racist or anti-immigration.
Yet, my Twitter suggestions now resemble Katie Hopkins' address book Hmm

I'm really disappointed with the algorithms. But also reassured that AI is not going to take over humanity if they are this dull.

Mascotte · 20/07/2020 10:07

Morning, ADs. I need your ad spirits today as am sinking into dementory doom and anxiety and feeling something bad is going to happen. I need to pick myself up as I'm leaving for the holiday tomorrow!

OP posts:
Mascotte · 20/07/2020 10:08

@Pleasedontdothat me too! I have pretty much stopped browsing twitter, which I usually quite enjoy, as I'm quite scared by the profiles of some of the people I agree with on this 😂

OP posts:
TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 20/07/2020 10:12

That's a horrible feeling Mascotte - I can only say when I arrived at my hotel the other day it lifted my spirits so much. There is a lot of doom around but there are lots of people out there intent on enjoying themselves too.

I am so tired of this virus. I know I'm not the only one. The idea of it dragging on for months more is awful. I have felt better in the last week for not being online so much so I am going to get myself away from all the misery again. It is fascinating how some people seem to love it.

rookiemere · 20/07/2020 10:21

Remind me where you're off to on holiday Mascotte ? I should know but I've forgotten.
I felt a bit overly worked up before we went ( back on Friday from Ludlow) I think for me everything that I had planned for the last 4 months has gone to pot, so I was at the point of believing that nothing good could actually happen. But it did and it was marvellous and I feel much better for the break and so will you.

NothingIsWrong · 20/07/2020 10:41

@Mascotte chin up, petal - you are going on holiday! It will be awesome :-)

PinkFondantFancy · 20/07/2020 10:45

@Pleasedontdothat I am in exactly the same position, it's miserable

Ibake · 20/07/2020 10:45

It's pre holiday anxiety @mascotte, totally normal and once you're on your way you'll be fine. I get it all the time and it drives me mad. I especially hate that I fret about things that I didn't think twice about when I was younger. You're going to have such a lovely time!
