I posted on the other lard-losing thread, but just realised we're keeping general chatter on this one.
I've had an amazing weekend, meeting my mum in London. First time since Christmas! It's done me soooo much good to see her and my brother popped over as well, so it felt like such a pivotal moment. My soul actually feels lighter, not just as a figure of speech but actually lighter, like I'm not carrying lead weights in my shoes any more.
London is simply ace. There were no crowds anywhere, but enough people milling about so it didn't feel like a zombie set. Portobello Market had been shut to traffic, so was pedestrian only, and it was a much better experience for it. DDs bought so many posters and accessories from the stalls; more than in regular times. Hey, not like I've spent money on anything in the last 4 months.
The lack of international tourists and City workers was very much visible. There were plenty of locals wandering about as well as domestic tourists. But the sites were still sparse. We had a great time as a result, but I'm keenly aware the lack of consumers on the street isn't good for the economy in general.
