There is a cheapy wedding veil in my amazon basket. The dementors can't whinge about that, it covers everything. Grin

I was alright with a wedding veil as it wasn't actually on my face and it's easy to breathe through.

That'll be great in Aldi!

countrygirl99 · 15/07/2020 17:01

justasking111 you've just reminded me I have a hat with a mozzies veil🤗

TheOrchidKiller · 15/07/2020 17:16

Will this do to pop into ASDA?

At my age I am officially an Invisible Woman anyway.

I’m thinking about getting one of these. I genuinely want one for a Halloween costume, but I’d love to see the reaction if I wore it in Aldi.

Oh Bark That is fabulous, but reminds me there'll be no Steam Punk festival this August Bank holiday in my nearest city.

I've got a small black veil that I keep for funerals - some relatives are strict Catholics. We could start a veil trend in Aldi Grin

I trod on a mask wearer today - accidentally, honestly!!! Perhaps that will teach her that she still needs to social distance.

bakingcupcakes · 15/07/2020 17:52

I went shopping today for non essential stuff just because I won't be doing anything other than essential shopping after the mask wearing starts. There were definitely more people in masks but most had them under their noses and lots were being used as chin slings. It really winds me up.

What I'll be interested in seeing is whether all these people who'll suddenly be happy to shop with masks actually materialise or will it be like the smoking ban. There were all these people who were suddenly going to use pubs when smoking was banned inside except they never came so loads of pubs closed.

There is something going around on SM, funny face covers folk have worn, that bird beak would fit right in.

wanderings · 15/07/2020 18:06

Here's a good one: someone posted on Facebook about how the sanitiser on someone's hands caught fire when they went too near a candle, leaving them with very bad burns. All those bloody safety measures! Wink I've seen things on the internet saying this is a hoax, but I'm sure we'll see some unintended consequences of masks sooner or later. Keep an eye out!

SockYarn · 15/07/2020 18:10

I am just back from a mooch around Aldi with my newly acquired visor. It was very quiet - although the random aisle of tat was empty, there were lots of 30% off red stickers so all good. Can't argue with a chicken for £3.

Nobody hissed at me because I had a visor instead of a mask and everyone was very pleasant. Cashier not wearing a mask at all.

Mascotte · 15/07/2020 18:17

@PinkFondantFancy that should be the official AD mask

The 'bird beak' is a copy of what the 'plague doctors' wore during the black death. They stuffed it with herbs and flowers I believe as they believed the germs were in the foul air so if you couldn't smell the badness then you were ok.
Supermarketworker06 · 15/07/2020 19:12

More masks worn today by customers at work today, obviously getting prepared. What with that and the screens, I find it hard to hear what they're saying. I'm sure I'm partially deaf, I rely on lip reading more than I realized.
Unless work says we HAVE to wear them I'm not doing it. I've worked all through the whole bloody thing, before screens and queues and gloves etc, and I'm buggered if I'm wearing a mask at work.

I’m just back from an emergency dash to the vet, the poor dog has an anal gland abscess which we only spotted this evening due to her being exceptionally fluffy in the bum region. The vet said it should burst in the next few days Envy

HeIenaDove · 15/07/2020 19:16

@BarkandCheese what are they charging for those?

BakewellTarts · 15/07/2020 19:21

@LivinLaVidaLoki ridiculously pleased for you. That sounds great.

BarkandCheese · 15/07/2020 19:23

That one was on Wish, they’re about £12 on eBay for what’s probably exactly the same thing.

MaxNormal · 15/07/2020 19:24

@Allflightscancelled it doesn't seem right or fair really does it? It really then rankles when we have to read people extolling the joys of lockdown.

Can you say what your plans were or is that too outing? Ours were to be a move to a different country, warmer, to help my health. With the Brexit deadline looming, it's not something we can simply postpone till things pick up again financially so that's that.

HeIenaDove · 15/07/2020 19:30

Ta @BarkandCheese They look quite authentic.

Allflightscancelled · 15/07/2020 19:36

Hi MaxNormal our plans were/are a couple of years in the future. We have a modest house in the midlands that is paid for and a very small flat on the coast that is mortgaged. We want to keep both, then sell both in a couple of years and buy a house at the coast. It's a very expensive place to live and we won't be buying a palace.

This would enable our daughter to go to the uni she wants to go to (she is year 12 now) without being hours and hours away from us. She doesn't like the idea of that. It would also mean we could go into semi retirement, still working as we have rubbish pensions and enjoy the things we want to do on the coast.

Our challenge short term is to keep 2 places going. Don't get me wrong I know many people are struggling to keep one place going but this is our dream, time isnt on our side and the dream looks like it may slip away.

I hope you manage to realise yours x

I'm sure there's some dementors that could argue witha £3 chicken Grin

Supermarket gauntlet done for the week. Slightly more masky. Not too bad. Hard work shouting through the screen at the pharmacy counter for both parties.
Why does it bug me so much to see masks. I really do not like it.

BakewellTarts · 15/07/2020 20:05

@Allflightscancelled it really sucks. Our cousin is now on his 3rd wedding date. August 2021 now so fingers crossed. I am still hoping for some Christmas cheer and your wedding can go ahead.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 15/07/2020 20:07

Sorry still at work (another reason I need this holiday) but my notifications have been going mad all day so just wanted to pop on and say thank you all so much for the kind words!

Jourdain11 · 15/07/2020 20:12

DH saw someone wearing a bona fide WW2 gas mask on the tube the other day, followed by a man in a plague doctor outfit!

Considering that immediately something is made "the rules" people seem to stop doing it round here, I anticipate that there will be no mask-wearers in the shops in 10 days time 😃
