Flying Ant Day

Mummydaydreams · 12/07/2020 14:03

So many flying ants here (South East) we've got the patio doors shut. Does it happen on the same day all over the UK or is this a localised thing?

Nothing here yet (Bedfordshire).

I reckon it will be about another week here.

HellToupee · 12/07/2020 14:05

We had them here yesterday (South West). Not a one to be seen today 🤷‍♀️

MonsteraDeliciosa · 12/07/2020 14:11

Oh dear I hope not: just about to go out on a dog walk up the hill here. Last year I got caught up in flying ant day, was horrendous.

I used to live in a house with a very antsy garden. I remember a visible wall of flying ants once and had to run out and grab DCs. Was like a biblical plague.

Floralnomad · 12/07/2020 14:13

We are SE and yes it’s definitely flying ant day , fortunately we have fly screens .

rslsys · 12/07/2020 14:18

Seems to be Thunderfly day in Norfolk!

SarahTancredi · 12/07/2020 14:33

I've just put my recycling out and I have a load bursting out my steps....aaaah

sunrainwind · 12/07/2020 14:33

I'm South East and have loads today too

corlan · 12/07/2020 14:37

Happening today in London!

Dfg15 · 12/07/2020 14:37

Saw a whole cloud of them wafting along the pavement when I was coming back from the supermarket. I hate the dopey buggers so i was pleased I was in the car. This is the 2nd time in the last few weeks we've had them here, North London

hazandduck · 12/07/2020 14:39

Yep I’m in Hampshire and my garden has exploded with them. One just landed in my bloody hair!

treenu · 12/07/2020 14:39

We're in the South East and had ours two weeks ago...

BiteyShark · 12/07/2020 14:40

Same here. Just closed all the doors which is a shame as it's a lovely day.

Buddyelf · 12/07/2020 14:41

North West and they’ve arrived.

EasilyDelighted · 12/07/2020 14:43

Hampshire here too, we've had masses of them in the last couple of weeks. They have dug out masses of sand from around our block paving.

Pregnantandredundant · 12/07/2020 14:44

Yes! Just been saying this. SW London

TwoZeroTwoZero · 12/07/2020 14:45

It might be later on here. It's warm, still and a bit muggy.

GlamGiraffe · 12/07/2020 14:46

They're appearing in london.

AldiAisleofCrap · 12/07/2020 14:48

I love flying ant day, they are fascinating creatures.

WhispersOfWickedness · 12/07/2020 14:50

Think it's localised.
To a pp, thunder flies come out when they're harvesting crops as they normally live in them Smile

LittleDonk · 12/07/2020 14:50

Nothing near Peterborough!

TeaStory · 12/07/2020 14:52

Kent, yes they’ve been out today.

FuckyNel · 12/07/2020 14:52

Kent and I’ve just picked one out of my bikini bottoms

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/07/2020 14:52

Noticed one today * TBF the cats noticed it frst ) , and mentioned to DS . Nothing since

We had loads in May though , in the kitchen up at the corners of the French Doors and the window .
It was like that scene in The Amityville Horror Shock Don't know where they came from but they were inside the house

OrangeSamphire · 12/07/2020 14:53

We had flying any day in early June (Cornwall). Can always tell because the seagulls go totally nuts.
