Flying Ant Day

So many flying ants here (South East) we've got the patio doors shut. Does it happen on the same day all over the UK or is this a localised thing?

North Bristol and we've got them too!

BillyAndTheSillies · 12/07/2020 16:02

Yup, our front door step was swarming with them today so thought it must be flying any day. I am in London.

AnotherBiteMe · 12/07/2020 16:11

North London. Yep 100's on my door step.

BiggerBoat1 · 12/07/2020 16:16

Yup. I'm SE and got them today. Horrible.

Baaaahhhhh · 12/07/2020 16:30

Yep. Surrey. We postponed a walk across the fields. Patio was heaving with the little buggers a couple of hours ago.

MrsFezziwig · 12/07/2020 16:35

No flying ants here, we're much further north. We're usually at least 3 weeks behind the south east though so I wouldn't expect ours until the end of the month or later.....

I’m in Yorkshire & I’ve just been enveloped by a cloud of them! Never even knew Flying Ant Day was a thing, but they definitely weren’t around yesterday. Been pondering what to buy to eradicate them but if they’ll be gone by tomorrow I’ll sit it out.

eddiemairswife · 12/07/2020 16:41

I'm in the West Midlands and don't seem to have had any for years. It used to be on a hot, sultry at the end of July.

Bigfatpicnic · 12/07/2020 16:41

Stacks in Essex. How do you get rid of them?

MulticolourMophead · 12/07/2020 16:42

Haven't had any yet, so I've been anticipating it anytime soon.

AuditAngel · 12/07/2020 16:43

West London and suddenly today they have appeared

permanentlyexhaustedpigeon · 12/07/2020 16:51

Happy chickens here too - though they're slightly puzzled that this nice protein snack keeps taking off..

MrsWhites · 12/07/2020 16:51

North west, we have thousands of them today! Our patio is crawling, went out for a few hours, came back and the washing I’d put out to dry is covered in them! Hopefully they’ll be gone tomorrow!

Davros · 12/07/2020 16:55

Yes. They all started taking off at once. Sprayed Raid and then hoovered up the bodies

eddiemairswife · 12/07/2020 17:29

Why spray them? They aren't poisonous, don't sting, and soon fly away.

Not yet in Scotland. We have a huge ants nest in a big bin in the garden so will watch out for them

We’re in Devon but none here, but friends further north but still in SW have them

Wilko312 · 12/07/2020 17:47

We have them here in the North West

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 12/07/2020 17:48

Happening here in South Yorkshire today. Just come in from the garden.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/07/2020 17:52

Essex - noticed more when I went out at 3pm ish but nothing like what we've had before .....so tomorrow could be the day Shock

TheDoctorDances · 12/07/2020 17:53

Derbyshire. Mowed the lawn and got invaded by them coming out of the ground. I may have screamed.

Thneedville · 12/07/2020 17:53

Yes. Sussex.

I’m sure it’s usually late July or August. I looked it up last year and something about atmospheric/ weather conditions impacting when it happens.

JovialNickname · 12/07/2020 17:53

Yep. London and there's loads of the big bodied bastards on my window sill
