I really can’t pick it up. Now on the phone to the RSPCA.

@DramaAlpaca

Eeek! And I thought the lizard I found in my dog's bowl yesterday morning was weird. Is it alive?
You found a lizard in the dog food bowl?!? I think that is weirder than a snake - both would freak me out though!
Yodabrussel · 10/07/2020 12:17

Definitely an escaped pet and full of food too by the look of it. My DP informs me it's likely an albino bullsnake

Is it pregnant? Looks very fat.

AngelofTheSilence · 10/07/2020 12:18

If you’re not able to touch it could you maybe warm a towel or something in a dryer/on a radiator and place it over it to give it some warmth?
It could also choose to stay where it is then while you find someone to come and pick it up.
Maybe knock on a few neighbours doors too to see if it belongs to one of them.

Hoppinggreen · 10/07/2020 12:18

Poor thing will be very cold
Completely appreciate you don’t feel able to pick it up OP but it needs to be rescuing ASAP

Roselilly36 · 10/07/2020 12:21

Goodness me, I was terrified when my cat brought in a live frog, I would have a baby if I saw a snake in the garden. Pleased you are getting it rescued.

Tiredmumno1 · 10/07/2020 12:25

Can you put it on your local FB pages to see if anyone is missing a snake or if someone lives nearby that handles them.

Even a local reptile shop may come and help quickly if you have one close by.

Snakes are my worst nightmares - I started reading this, went to the loo, and literally had to pee as quick as poss as I kept imagining one coming up from the loo to bite my bum. You are SO much calmer than I would ever have been! Pick it up and put it in a pillowcase?! I would be burning the house down and moving to an under ground bunker!

helpfulperson · 10/07/2020 12:28

Facebook and door knocking is a good call. Even if you don't find the owner there will be someone who knows about snakes.

Clevererthanyou · 10/07/2020 12:29

🙄 There’s always one dickhead with nothing useful to add except “Aww”.

That dickhead is me 😁🥰

BadBear · 10/07/2020 12:33

Relax, it is a pet snake. Looks like an Albino Burmese Python from your picture, they are quite well-natured and tame. Used to handle my friend's all the time.

I'd say get someone in that knows how to handle it, don't attempt to do it yourself. Call the RSPCA or maybe a local pet shop that sells reptiles, they might have someone that knows how to handle them.

Bumply · 10/07/2020 12:36

Looks like a corn snake to me.
It'll be sluggish due to low temp, but is unlikely to come to any harm from being cold.
There will be a frantic neighbour searching for their lost snake, but unsure whether to advertise that. (Been there, done that. Pet snake turned up in the bottom a cupboard glory hole)

Just following to see what happens.

AvoidingRealHumans · 10/07/2020 12:42

No suggestions I'm afraid, just wanted to add that I would have died on spotting that in the garden.

frazzledasarock · 10/07/2020 12:44

How big is it? We found something that looked very snaky in our garden, it turned out to be a slow worm.

Vinorosso74 · 10/07/2020 12:45

Snakes freak me out so I would be no use! Someone near us found one in their garden recently, the owner was found via Nextdoor.

bluefoxmug · 10/07/2020 12:47

do you havd a pet shop nearby?
those are often quicker than rspa from experience.

we once had a (tiny) escapee in the garden. we were able to capture it in a plastic container. and called the pet shop. snake was reunited with owner (a mile away!) within a couple of hours.

your visitor seems to be a rare colour and could be quite valuable.

ThousandsAreSailing · 10/07/2020 12:50

We have snake. They are easy to handle. Could you throw something over it then pick it up and keep it somewhere warm

user1495884620 · 10/07/2020 12:51

I thought it looked quite fat as well. Do you have a cat OP? Have you seen it lately? Grin

WhatTheThunderSaid · 10/07/2020 12:51

Is it just me or does the tail end look a little odd? The body's a bit sausagey for a corn (or it might just be overfed). If you were near me OP I'd come get it but sadly looks too sunny for my area today Grin

Toilenstripes · 10/07/2020 12:54

I hope it hasn’t eaten the OP.
