Ooooh! @Oldestchild90sShock

Snakeomg · 12/07/2020 15:14
@ElizabethMainwaring I know, I can’t imagine most people finding a lost dog would think ‘oh well it’s the owners fault so it’s not my problem if it dies’ even though a dog bite will be far far worse than a bite from a little snake like this!
I understand some people don’t like them or are creeped out by them, but the hysteria is OTT.
I hope someone else came across it and managed to rescue it before it was too late.
That isn’t what I said or thought at all Hmm

Anyway, it’s back and we’ve caught it in a box. We picked it up despite RSPCA advice not to go near it or touch it.

Aww fantastic news OP. Did the RSPCA say much and confirm it's a corn snake?

I'm now dying to know if it's a harmless corn snake or a deadly python. I'm on team cornsnake.

steppemum · 12/07/2020 15:49

Well done OP. Don't tell me you picked it up yourself?
Well done you.

Glad cecil is safe!

Have you found his owner? was there anyone on FB looking for him?

AshenQueen · 12/07/2020 15:53

I’m not going to risk handling an exotic animal that could bite either. It’s not my responsibility, it is the responsibility of whichever idiot let it escape.
@Snakeomg apologies for not quoting exactly what you did say.

Anyway I’m so glad she has been rescued and really hope they can find her owner. She’s obviously healthy and in good condition so someone will be missing her. Great news :)

ElizabethMainwaring · 12/07/2020 16:27

Ermm. I didn't actually say this. It was another poster.
But it I'm so glad that the snake is okay Smile

Soubriquet · 12/07/2020 16:32

Even if it was a python they aren’t deadly

Not unless they are Burmese pythons that are fully grown and are then deadly if handled incorrectly as they are then big enough to kill you if they wanted to. Luckily most don’t as they are lazy

ajandjjmum · 12/07/2020 16:45

OP - I noticed the 'we've caught it' - that's what I say when DH has had to deal with something. I stand on the sidelines giving instructions!

Well done - you were much braver than me.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/07/2020 16:45

Great news - glad it is safe now and hopefully re-united with the owner .

Did you even for a fleeting moment want to keep the snake ?
G'wan you can admit it ......
Nice huge vivarium in the lounge , add a feature .

I can safely go out in my garden now Grin

KitMarlowesCodpiece · 12/07/2020 19:04

@Snakeomg I'm so pleased! Well done - I'd have been petrified but also worried for the snake. It's a tough spot to be in!

Soubriquet · 12/07/2020 19:15

I used to go to an animal college and there was one snake called Cleo, was a male milk snake, used to escape from his viv every now and then.

One day, they found him in the pen with the rabbits just curled up too cold to move. He was no danger to the rabbits, as he was smaller than them.

They eventually moved him to an arboreal viv, even though milk snakes are not climbers, and he never escaped again.

He spent most of his time on the floor but he was happy

Wolfiefan · 12/07/2020 20:06

Oh I’m so glad it’s safe. That’s brilliant!!

Forgottenwhatsleepis · 12/07/2020 20:37

@Snakeomg are you in South Devon by any chance?

Snakeomg · 12/07/2020 21:02

The lady who collected it didn’t know what type it was but she’s called back to say it’s been identified as an albino corn snake. Apparently ‘on the obese side’.

Jux · 12/07/2020 21:33

I was thinking it must have had a jolly good meal, or two!

DD really wanted a corn snake as a pet when she was little, but dh wouldn't hear of it. I'm not sure how well the cats would have got on iwth it either. Anyway, we had a bearded dragon instead.

Well done for picking it up - it's not slimy is it! I think they have raather wonderful skins. Glad it's safe now.

Brenna24 · 12/07/2020 23:35

Well done. I am glad she is safe now.

k1233 · 12/07/2020 23:40

Glad snakey is safe Smile well done for catching it.

HeIenaDove · 13/07/2020 00:37

("Been there, done that. Pet snake turned up in the bottom a cupboard glory hole)"

Me too. A snake turned up in my kitchen climbing up the wall between my saucepans.

OMG - well done OP.
So glad it's gone.

Skyliner001 · 13/07/2020 13:28

Glad the snake is safe and sound! Well done for catching it

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 13/07/2020 18:00

However do you make a snake obese? I thought they only ate once a month!

scissy · 13/07/2020 18:28

@LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE

I keep other reptiles (not snakes) but they are opportunistic, they'll eat if you feed them more regularly than they're supposed to.

I have to regularly put one of my geckos on a "diet" as it steals crickets from its tank mate HmmGrin

scissy · 13/07/2020 18:31

To clarify, I add enough food for both of them, but one will eat more than its fair share if I'm not careful...
