Put on your local Facebook selling page has anyone lost a snake and the owner will roll up or call RSPCA

It disappeared again yesterday.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 11/07/2020 18:47

Poor snake!

MaxNormal · 11/07/2020 19:03

Poor thing, it'll be too cold for it out there plus the risk of nasty humans/dogs/cats/cars. It's poor form of your dad to not bother his arse tbh and a waste of RSPCA time.

I'm in the East of England ......just been down to our garage which has an open bit in the door that our male cat uses to go in/out
And all my guinea-pigs old stuff is there .

So :
Right part of UK
Big enough space for a cat so the snake would fit
Yummy rodent smelling hutches etc

I am sending DH back for another look tomorrow

MillyDilly · 11/07/2020 19:47

@Snakeomg

East of England spinning

I feel sorry for it too crunchy and am quite confident handling most wildlife but have no experience with snakes and didn’t want to get bitten by it. Venomous or not, a bite injects bacteria.

Oh Jesus. Can you narrow it down a bit? County maybe?
LouH1981 · 11/07/2020 20:16

@hippoherostandinghere Anyone quotes Pam Shipman in a thread wins the internet imo 👏🏻

KentMum81 · 11/07/2020 20:30

For those concerned about the snake being able to survive in our climate, please don’t worry!
Cornsnakes are a temperate species and their range is massive and covers the majority of North America and beyond.
The snake will absolutely be fine in our summertime weather.

gamerchick · 11/07/2020 20:31

Oh unclench, with the exception of one or two, most people are being light-hearted. I hope the snake is found and rescued, poor thing must be freezing

I won't unclench even though you weren't pointing that at me, this thread has been highly irritating with the screechy 'lighthearted' posts Hmm

If this had been a Mumsnet approved animal and said animal was in trouble and just ignored until it had gone elsewhere there would have been ructions on.

gamerchick · 11/07/2020 20:35

Aye, it should. Hopefully it's found before something nasty happens to it though and by someone who isnt scared to contain it.

It was 7 degrees here the other morning, I doubt it'd be fine then.
gamerchick · 11/07/2020 20:45

:( it might. My corn likes a slightly cooler temp and that's a beefy bugger. It might be ok if it's found soon.

It's just made me feel sad that it could have been back in its tank by now or 'a' tank and it probably isn't.

sashh · 11/07/2020 20:46

That is no wild snake. Definitely a large python. Eek

Am I missing something? When did snakes become domesticated?

safariboot · 11/07/2020 21:01

Another hoping the snake is somewhere nice and safe and it gets found soon.

And OP was absolutely not unreasonable to leave it well alone!

CoruciaLady · 11/07/2020 21:02

Depending where you live contact one of these organisations who will then collect the snake from you:

British Herpetological Society, Federation of British Herpetologists Re-Homing Coordinators. Mainly South London & Surrey

National Centre for Reptile Welfare,. see www.ncrw.co.uk/ for details

Have you had another look for it or told your neigh our to keep an eye out? I would also add a picture on your local facebook page. PP's are correct though it is too cold for a snake at the moment they need the temperature to be at least 28 degrees or they go into hibernation mode which when forced can be deadly.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 11/07/2020 21:23

Any sign of Doreen/Cecil?

Maybe this one could find another escaped one and breed Grin

I could live with that ....

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/07/2020 22:24

So it could be in my compost bin , warming itself in the fermentation heat ?

leftovercoffeecake · 11/07/2020 22:50

Just caught up with this thread. OP I think you’re brave for even getting close enough for that photo Blush

fluffiny31 · 12/07/2020 07:59

Your not in Derbyshire are you op. Someone near where I live has lost a snake that looks exactly like that. 😱

Mumsn0t · 12/07/2020 10:01

Blimey. And I've been wondering what to do about the very tame, completely black pigeon with a ring tag on it's foot that has taken a fancy to my garden...

AshenQueen · 12/07/2020 10:45

It will be gone now and I really doubt it will come back. Corn snakes can absolutely not survive night time temps in the UK for very long.
They are totally harmless, we have three. They are very unlikely to bite and that snake is no where near big enough to constrict or harm an adult, not that it would want to anyway.
On the off chance you see it again and don’t want to touch it, if you put a box with a hole in front of it, it will likely go in it to hide and then you could cover the hole and contact your local rescue. Wearing gloves is a good way to handle a snake your not sure of too, but I doubt very much there is a need. Most pet snakes are used to being handled and corns are so docile.
Hope the little girl gets found and taken home safe :(

And for the record, even if this had been a python, at that size, also harmless and no cause for concern.

ElizabethMainwaring · 12/07/2020 11:12

@AshenQueen
At the risk of getting another biscuit (yikes!) from the op, this thread has been very sad from start to finish.
Poor snake.

AshenQueen · 12/07/2020 11:35

@ElizabethMainwaring I know, I can’t imagine most people finding a lost dog would think ‘oh well it’s the owners fault so it’s not my problem if it dies’ even though a dog bite will be far far worse than a bite from a little snake like this!
I understand some people don’t like them or are creeped out by them, but the hysteria is OTT.
I hope someone else came across it and managed to rescue it before it was too late.

Oldestchild90s · 12/07/2020 11:44

I started off reading this thread like 'omg how scary' Now i actually feel bad for the poor thing i hope it's ok 😩
