If it hasn't been found I should imagine that it's dead.
I can't understand why op, her father or someone else couldn't have just put the poor thing in a box instead of shrieking about it on here.
I understood that some people are scared of snakes, but big girl pants and all that.
Just cruel in my opinion.

Never mind your biscuit, has the snake been found?
@Wolfiefan I think he lived in my roof. I quite like snakes. Don't need to handle them but don't want to see them hurt. More than happy to coexist with them.
And where do you live k1233?

k1233 · 11/07/2020 09:34

@ElizabethMainwaring you should see me encountering cane toads. Kept the neighbours amused for quite some time trying to get one out of the dogs pool. I had a rake and was trying to scoop it out but every time I touched it I'd drop the rake squeal and run. Snakes, no problem. Spiders the size of your hand, no problem. Frogs and toads, scream and run.

I expect snakey in OP will be out sun baking again tomorrow. It's probably found some little nook to sleep in over night.

@Snakeomg it would probably be a good idea to alert your neighbours to keep an eye out for it and not hurt it as it's a pet. Not sure if you have a local lost pets page but that would be something you could do overnight - put a post up re anyone lost a pet snake. Hopefully it's owner is really worried and will be happy to stake out your yard tomorrow. Have you got any local vets? I find them helpful when you find lost pets even if it's to leave your details in case someone calls looking for the pet.

@ajandjjmum I live in the land where our wildlife is likely to kill or maim you - Australia :)

Thought you might! DS is living in Sydney at the moment and suggests 'when this is all over' we might spend 3 months of every year there. Can't happen - especially now I've seen your photos! Grin Shock

StillCoughingandLaughing · 11/07/2020 10:22

Eugh. I don't trust snake/lizard/spider people. Nor people who cycle to work, or don't own a television, or have an uncle or auntie who are younger than they are.

Not sure why the OP is getting your ire. The person responsible is the snake's owner for failing to keep it secure.

vdbfamily · 11/07/2020 10:41

if you have a local FB group, please post your photo as a snake owner somewhere will be frantically searching and if you have a contact number for them they will react quicker than RSPCA if you spot it again. My snake escaped a few times and it is a horrible feeling to think they might be out in the cold, in danger.

CloudyGladys · 11/07/2020 15:14

So this snake, in the East of England, is still slithering free and no-one knows where it is? They travel how far in a day?

(Asking for a friend... Wink )

CandidaAlbicans2 · 11/07/2020 16:19

The scale of hysteria on this thread is getting ridiculous
It always goes like this on MN unfortunately, as though it’s funny to post OTT responses to anything about snakes or spiders. It’s not, it’s ridiculous Hmm
Now, because neither OP or her dad had the gumption to at least put a box (with a weight) over the snake to keep it safe whilst waiting for the RSPCA the poor thing is in big danger of coming to harm. It’s not the snake’s fault it’s ended up in an environment that’s detrimental to it. FFS!Angry

Snakeomg · 11/07/2020 16:39

Calm down Candida you sound hysterical.

If you had the gumption to look at the photos properly you’d see a box on top wouldn’t have contained it in the position it was in. I’m not going to risk handling an exotic animal that could bite either. It’s not my responsibility, it is the responsibility of whichever idiot let it escape.

Snakes are notorious escape artists. Ours learned his vivarium opened by sliding the glass. So he pressed himself against it and started to slide it open. We bought a lock pretty sharpish.

Snakeomg · 11/07/2020 17:08

Which doesn’t change the fact it’s the owners responsibility to make sure their pet doesn’t escape iklboo

Especially if they are notorious for it.

iklboo · 11/07/2020 17:10

Exactly @Snakeomg I'm agreeing with you.

bettsbattenburg · 11/07/2020 17:17

@Megatron

The scale of hysteria on this thread is getting ridiculous....

Oh unclench, with the exception of one or two, most people are being light-hearted. I hope the snake is found and rescued, poor thing must be freezing.

You are so funny, I was also being lighthearted - "the scale of hysteria Grin

I also hope that the snake is found alive and well.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/07/2020 17:29

Have you still not found him.
If he comes here he’s mine, I’m keeping him. Wink Grin
I just ❤️🐍s.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 11/07/2020 17:36

Hope it turns up!

managedmis · 11/07/2020 17:40

As if op is gonna start 'handling' some random serpent in the garden!

She's not Bindi Irwin ffs

steppemum · 11/07/2020 18:04

Anyone else just checking in to see if the snake has turned up?

Can we call him Cecil?

wasnotwasweregood · 11/07/2020 18:05

I keep refreshing this page to see if its turned up and I'm nowhere near the East of England!
Hope you're all OK OP, did you put it on Nextdoor or anything?

KentMum81 · 11/07/2020 18:09

That’s a very well fed corn snake!
I’m sorry to hear it go away before it could be collected.
I’m sure there’s an embarrassed and worried owner somewhere very local to you.
As others have said, cornsnakes are generally very placid and rarely even strike, but if they do, their bite is like being slapped with a tiny bit of Velcro, honestly, a cat scratch is 100 times worse!
I keep snakes (and other beasties) of many species and my corns are the gentlest and laziest of all.
Hopefully this corn will find its way home soon.
Thankfully this weather will suit it quite well, so as long as it manages to keep clear of foxes, dogs, cats and people wielding weapons, it should be just fine.

FelicisNox · 11/07/2020 18:32

"Can you put it in a pillowcase?"

If that question was levelled at me the answer would absolutely. fucking.not.

RSPCA... STAT.

Passenger42 · 11/07/2020 18:38

Put on your local Facebook selling page has anyone lost a snake and the owner will roll up or call RSPCA
