I didn't notice @dowser as I was trying to keep up with DS1 who has seen something. The toilets at Wharton Park have been opened. I'll check on the Durham website, later.

SockYarn · 11/07/2020 21:02

@KaronAVyrus ds has a stormtrooper helmet, full face.

Tempted.

Ghostlyglow · 11/07/2020 21:12

I went to a pub for the first time since lockdown and sat in the beer garden. It was lovely. The staff were all wearing masks and were pretty cheerful about it. The guy who served us said he was just really happy to be working and interacting with people again. We're going to try another one tomorrow Smile

TheYellowOfTheEgg · 11/07/2020 21:18

Today is my birthday and we went to a local restaurant. They took our temperatures when we went in, but otherwise everything was pretty normal. No one wore masks or visors. I don't see how waiters could engage with the customers if they wore masks. It's pointless if you have to remove the mask to be understood. The restaurant was fairly busy, but not full. The waiter said that it would fill up later. There was even music on (not loud).

It was just so so lovely to do something normal and to have some nice food with DH and the kids.

@torydeathdrug

Ha! Well so far there have been only 30 odd positive tests in England on the 10th ... that’ll increase over the next few days but like the deaths cases are when reported not actually on the day they are announced (of the ones today 760 odd were between 4th & 9th).

Not sure what’s up with the deaths only 39 in hospital (less than last week) & they were spread out over 10 days. The rest were other sites ... quite possibly missed from weeks ago. Meh, the averages are still coming down.

Long term lurker on these threads. Where did you get your figures from? The big jump had me really down, but if it's actually mostly backdated then I'm in a much better place.
justasking111 · 11/07/2020 21:27

Covid deaths England 38, Wales 1 = 39 Which is good but now they are saying 148, so they found 109 poor souls from somewhere, the result being higher than last Saturday 67, higher than two weeks ago 100, June 20 128.

Sorry I no longer believe the slippery bastards in England. They are either outright liars or incompetent fools.

Dowser · 11/07/2020 21:30

@AnxiousElephant77
My friend has to self isolate for 2 weeks before op and 2 weeks after..this is for an op that takes 10 mins
Poor thing has only just got out of shielding

Ghostlyglow · 11/07/2020 21:30

My elderly (both early 80s)in-laws probably deserve an honorary mention on this thread. This week they've been to the hairdressers and out for a meal at a restaurant.Mil has today downloaded the Greene King app onto her phone so they can go for a meal at the pub. Smile

torydeathdrug · 11/07/2020 21:43

@Pleasenomoreglitter I’m not sure if this link will work from my phone coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/cases?areaType=nation&areaName=England

If you go into cases, select by nation ‘England’ then data it tells you that actual date that the tests announced today came from. The lag means that the numbers for the most recent days will increase over the next few days but you can see that only 30 of the cases announced today were from the 10th. The rest have been added on to previous days. If you check everyday you can see when the cases actually occurred not just when they were announced.

I don’t know what the total for the 10th will be - need to watch over the next few days- but the 800 announced today weren’t from yesterday.

torydeathdrug · 11/07/2020 21:47

This is the same data for deaths in England by date of death - as you can see only 10 of the deaths announced today happened yesterday (that’s all settings). Same lag applies so we’d expect the number for the 20th to increase in the next few days.

torydeathdrug · 11/07/2020 21:48

That’s England not UK -
I just picked that because England has the highest numbers

chocolatesweets · 11/07/2020 21:51

@PickAChew

Wonder if this is an acceptable face covering.
😂 pmsl
torydeathdrug · 11/07/2020 21:53

This is deaths (UK) by data reported for comparison

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/07/2020 21:58

@Dowser but my daughter is 13, and my son is 10. They’re both perfectly healthy as are dp and I. There’s no way we can be expected to take four weeks off school and work, who’s paying the bills?

torydeathdrug · 11/07/2020 22:03

@PatriciaHolm has got some lovely graphs where you can see cases by date of test & deaths by actual date of death. Both still coming down

“Same lag applies so we’d expect the number for the 20th to increase in the next few days.”

Oops from the 10th not 20th

Going to pickup dd from work, then go to bed & not drink wine. Sad.

Dicotyledon · 11/07/2020 22:23

I would just like to apologise to the lady I accidentally touched today when she got stuck climbing over a fence. I forgot about the reason why she had to climb into the park after her child. Blush

BarkandCheese · 11/07/2020 22:26

I wouldn’t say this on any any other thread, but DH and have a theory that every so often the government go rummaging down the back of the sofa cushions to find as many “other settings” deaths as they can to bump up the numbers.

torydeathdrug · 11/07/2020 22:30

@BarkandCheese & their periodic corrections where they take a load of double counted ones out! I think the numbers are quite accurate - eventually! - certainly miles more reliable than many other countries.

Nihiloxica · 11/07/2020 22:36

It has started to feel like the number is
  • random number >10
Nihiloxica · 11/07/2020 22:39

I think the numbers are quite accurate - eventually!

Great, so let's stop the inaccurate daily figures. If the weekly average is more accurate, let's use that.

We have all decamped to my mother's. It feels so normal. Saw some good friends and my family.

BarkandCheese · 11/07/2020 22:43

I don’t see the point of giving out daily numbers any more, like the bloody R number it’s something people fixate on without looking at the bigger picture. As long as the weekly numbers are heading down we’re doing okay.

PinkFondantFancy · 11/07/2020 22:43

That's what infuriates me. If daily figures aren't accurate, delay them by a few days or give rolling averages. There's no way reporting using ropey numbers like that would be tolerated at my work

torydeathdrug · 11/07/2020 22:49

@Nihiloxica absolutely ... the numbers as they release them now are useless to the average person and just feed the DM-lunacy. Last night my dad was insisting Southampton is a ‘hotspot’ - they had a ”massive” spike of cases according to the paper (from 1 to 5 then back to 0 for the last three days ffs). Journalists being malicious/stupid. They need to stop ASAP.

If they identify an outbreak they can say so, otherwise wait until they make sense by date the case/death actually happened.

torydeathdrug · 11/07/2020 22:53

Oh the fucking R number ... makes me want to poke my eyes out. Completely useless information when there’s barely any cases. I quite like the daily growth percentage - I think ppl can understand that ... negative is good, there’s less covid everyday.
