Amber Heard & Johnny Depp....Your thoughts?

Whatdoyouthinkaboutthisone · 08/07/2020 18:53

I have seen this in the news over the past couple of days and wasn't really sure what to think. It sounds to me like a very volatile relationship and it may be that they are both abusers. Or at the least they are completely incompatible with each other.

Today I noticed that Amber Heard was walking into court and she had a scarf around her face. Then she removed the scarf and smiled for everyone and waved and seemed to enjoy the cameras being there. It's just an observation but maybe the accusations of her being a narcissist could be accurate? Or is she maybe trying to put a brave face on it all under what must be a very stressful situation for all concerned?

Johnny Depp kept his mask on but was also waving for the cameras I should add.

Anyway, I'm well aware it's none of my business really, it was just something I had thought about after seeing the news today and wondered what others thought!

Agreed @AuntMasha. Laughing at your description of the 'imagine' cover.
I didn’t know that about the ashes cannon. The devil makes work for idle hands Confused

Russellbrandshair · 11/07/2020 17:23

Depp spent millions of dollars blasting Hunter S Thompson’s ashes from a cannon

Yep I remember that. It cost him 5 million apparently. I don’t normally judge how people spend their money but really? 5 million on sending dust into space? That’s gross. The way he idolises people not for their character but purely for their excessive drug use is so very very sad to me.

famousforwrongreason · 11/07/2020 17:46

Five million! Wow. I'd I hadn't already gone off him that would be enough to do it for me.

SisterAgatha · 11/07/2020 19:34

Why does it cost so much?

Saucery · 11/07/2020 19:48

Permits for firing a rocket that far?

SisterAgatha · 11/07/2020 19:50

5 million though? I mean I have no idea how much a cannon costs but I think he got done.

Russellbrandshair · 11/07/2020 19:53

No idea why it was so much. He said this in an interview:

“By the way, it was not $3 million to shoot Hunter into the f**king sky," he said. "It was $5 million”

Crazy.

Saucery · 11/07/2020 19:54

A cannon into space, though.....
It was kind of cool, that. He’d played him in the movie and Hunter S Thompson was far more than “someone who did lots of drugs” if you look at literary history.
I don’t really rate JD at all (he’s always looked as though he smells a bit unsavoury and is a dreadful actor) but that was ace.

JD won't miss a hot dinner.

Tim Burton will never say 'he's too weird'.
Hollywood Vampires will never say 'he's too rock & roll'.

TinySongstress · 12/07/2020 04:23

For anyone who's interested, Journalist Nick Wallis has just posted full transcripts to his website.

The opening statements from both sides are dynamite.

YonBonnieBanks · 12/07/2020 06:45

Neither of them are coming out of it looking good.

But regardless of how much drugs and alcohol JD takes, no matter how many nasty texts he sends, no matter how much shouting and swearing he does....

Does it prove he is a "wife beater"? I haven't seen enough evidence that he hit AH. Its his word against hers really. Yes there are photos of her alleged injuries. But where is the evidence the injuries came from him? Are there witnesses (ideally neutral witnesses) to physical violence?

So I think he could win on the "wife beater" point. His reputation is already damaged and surely the drugs and alcohol was already known?

He could do a Mel Gibson or a Downey Jnr and turn things around.

vanillandhoney · 12/07/2020 07:35

I just can’t see that he has a snowflake’s chance in hell of either winning this case or working again, given what is now in the public domain.

He'll be fine. He's a household name.

Loads of celebrities have been arrested and convicted for far worse than what Depp has been accused of and they're fine and still as successful as ever.

Stuff like that just doesn't matter when you're famous and can make people money.

Callardandbowser · 12/07/2020 08:19

Thanks for the transcripts songstress!
I still think AH is a dead duck.

Branleuse · 12/07/2020 09:16

I think this trial is less about whether he hit her, and now about whether she was 'asking for it'

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 12/07/2020 12:52

He has admitted to head butting her.

Branleuse · 12/07/2020 13:14

how are you supposed to "prove" anything if there is no recording or witnesses to the actual event.

Its hardly like domestic violence is some rare abberation. Its common as fuck unfortunately.

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus

I’ve just read JD’s skeleton argument and they are (obviously) challenging her credibility - based on the skellie (which is meant to be persuasive, obv!) it seems there is plenty of corroborative evidence that she was exaggerating/faking her injuries - including from her make up artist.

I still don’t see how “wife beater” is terribly far off the mark given the things he had admitted, but I will keep reading. Thanks for the transcript link above.

Is this publicly available? Would love to read it.
NewarkShark · 12/07/2020 17:58

You can waste hours reading the Nick Wallis live tweets - just search it on Twitter.

I think some of the comments on here exactly illustrate the problem we have right now - individuals can make extraordinary art while being abusive, criminal, worthless people. And meanwhile the people who are good and beautiful go unnoticed and unrewarded. Johnny Depp is extraordinarily beautiful and can act. JK Rowling can write better than anyone I know. Rolf Harris looked after animals. Michael Jackson was a hell of a songwriter and a dancer. I read the transcript of Depp asking AH to cut him and decided to seek more help because it’s horribly upsetting. If he loses work for this it will be an example of the cult of the individual. This has nothing at all to do with his ability as an actor.

I saw that Kylie Minogue and Cate Blanchett are throwing a party for Amber. Team Amber looking infinitely more classy than Team Johnny, which consists of just the filth that is Paul Bettany.

AgnesNaismith · 12/07/2020 20:10

I wasn’t sure I could love Kylie more....
