Does anyone hate their Birthday date?

I always liked my birthday as a kid (earlyJune) even with exams. I liked that it was nicer weather, perfect distance from Christmas and actually being a bit younger made me feel less pressure to have done things by a certain age. As an adult though, unless I'm abroad I find June a bit of a disappointing month, especially as the weather tends to go through a rubbish point after May. I'm now a real autumn lover, especially as you know what you're getting! I also look back and think how much harder I found school in primary. I caught up and had great teaching but I know a lot of summer babies dont. It also affected my self esteem in certain subjects.

I think about it more having dc. My baby was born in November and I really like the fact he will be older in the school year, although hope he doesnt find his Birthday too rubbish being near christmas! Hoping to always try and make it special.

Mine is tomorrow and July always used to be lovely but in recent years it has become a bit rainy. Early and late summer seem to be better times now.

ilovepixie · 08/07/2020 22:17

It's my birthday today and I love it. It's halfway through the year, so far away from Christmas so it breaks up the year nicely

SpringIs, dd2 was very nearly born on 9/11. I still wonder if the midwives took a few minutes off the clock because I had mentioned it being a sad association.

amusedbush · 08/07/2020 22:23

My birthday is the middle of May and I really like it. It’s usually good weather and it’s far away from Christmas. I was also one of the older kids in my school year (Scottish system), which I liked.

For years I worked as a programme manager in universities and huge exams always fell on my birthday so I could never take it off work but those days are behind me, thankfully! Although I turned 30 in lockdown this year 😩

Spidey66 · 08/07/2020 22:26

My birthday is in July...very shortly in fact.

When I was in school I didn't like it as i was one of the youngest in my class, though as itvalways fell in the last week of school before summer holidays it had a nice feel to it as well As an adult I've always liked it. I've has barbeque parties for my 40th and 50th which I couldn't do if I was a winter baby, also done things like go to Brighton for a couple of days etc. We're going away next week for a few days to Cornwall as a joint bday/easing of lockdown treat.

Mine's Bonfire night which I hated growing up as everybody was always busy and added bonus I hated fireworks. It's not so bad these days as I quite like fireworks now although DD's birthday is Halloween so I still get overshadowed!

TMIAnonymous · 08/07/2020 22:39

NC for this.

I hate my birthday date. The day before is the anniversary of my OH's death. The day after is the anniversary of my mother's death. Even though I had problems with both, it's still not a good time. I dread still dread it after many years.

I love my mid June birthday! Despite the gcses and a levels sat on them, and often having to share the birthday weekend with fathers day. I never struggled at school (that I remember) and my May born DD is further ahead academically at the same point than my February born DS. And of course, it isn't always possible to plan when your DC will be born.

Purplegloves · 08/07/2020 22:52

Three days before Christmas! I quite like the sound of it and I’ve never really had joint pressies. However, I’ve always been a bit reluctant to make a big deal about it or throw a party past when I was at uni. The risk is too great if people being too busy, away or skint!

mama202 · 08/07/2020 22:56

Interesting how many fellow early Jan birthdays there are here! Mine is the 2nd Jan which I always hated until I met my DH and he's always made an effort to make it special. Even 1st Jan would be better as people are still celebrating the new year. 2nd jan is normally everyone's first day back at work and people are completely fed up of eating and drinking, myself included! I always used to celebrate a few weeks later with friends once everyone wanted a drink again. My brothers is xmas eve but we always go out for dinner to celebrate and everyone's always excited for Xmas. Mine just always feels very flat and like we celebrate for the sake of it rather then something to look forward to

@TroysMammy

Middle of January. It's grim. One year for Christmas I had a bike, for my birthday 3 weeks later I had a saddle bag for it. On a plus side it's the only present I remember getting for my birthday, obviously the presents from other birthdays weren't as memorable.
🤣🤣🤣 my dads birthday is 22nd December and we always get him a good present, Christmas Day though it's always socks and a wash bag 🤣
Peasbewithyou · 08/07/2020 23:07

I have a similar birthday to you OP (very early June). As a small child it was great, I remember it being great weather every year and occasionally it was in half term! I did well at school and don’t think being summer born held me back at all.

Then I had years of terrible hay fever, exams and revision and exams, right up to and including my 21st! Then, since my mid-20s it seems to be much more rainy at that time of year. This year it was glorious though!

Overall though I think it’s a pretty good time to have a birthday! Right at the start of summer (I love summer), far from Christmas.

Rose789 · 08/07/2020 23:07

Dh is 26th January and it is absolutely pants. A million days since last pay day, every one doing dry January, Cold miserable Weather.
Mine is a few weeks before Christmas so I get combined birthday and Christmas cards and gifts. Trying to get people together is tricky as people are so busy in December.
A few years ago we decided we were going to celebrate our birthdays in June instead. Booked 10 days in Cuba I had my “birthday” on one day with presents and fuss and he had his the next day.
Same holiday dd1 was conceived in fact

FedHimtoTigers1990 · 09/07/2020 01:40

I love mine, St Patricks Day. Always a good night out.

DS is 31st August which i gather would have been a pain if we weren't in Scotland?

Natasha9511 · 09/07/2020 01:57

I’m mid November. I live in Scotland so it makes me one of the youngest in my school year. I love my birthday though, I’m such a Scorpio. My ideal night is getting in, locking the doors, and cuddling on the couch with it being dark and rainy outside. That basically screams November so I can always spend my birthday like this 🤣 however my partners birthday is next week and I love that his birthday is in July as it’s so bright and ‘exciting’ I’m due the week after this with DS and I really hope he’s a July baby and not an August baby (no idea why) Grin

Antipodeancousin · 09/07/2020 02:16

My early March birthday was brilliant growing up in the UK. Far enough away from Christmas and holidays that people were free to celebrate, neither young nor old in the school year and weather was generally improving (I don’t like winter).
Very encouraged to see how many people enjoy their November birthdays as my baby will likely be due early November and I was worried about it being too close to Christmas.

Mines in July I love it we usually have a big garden party (piss up!), not this year sadly but hopefully next year will back to some kind of 'normal'. My kids on the other hand are all dec& Jan poor buggers our timing was well off 4 times. My Eldest has it the worst Christmas eve, the upside is all his friends parents were happy to have a couple hours kid free to get last min bits done. Now he goes to the pub with his mates.

Lexie365 · 09/07/2020 03:29

Mine's 30th of December.. enough said😔

LunaNorth · 09/07/2020 03:47

I love mine in May. It often falls on a Bank Holiday, so I sometimes get a cheeky day off on my birthday.

YerAWizardHarry · 09/07/2020 03:57

I have a mid May birthday and did school exams on my 16th, 17th and 18th birthday. Other than that it's a non-issue in my life, dont really care about it much to give it thought

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 09/07/2020 05:15

My birthday is June 25. I love it because it's midsummer so there is so much daylight. I love to get up around 4 when he's already light and go for a run. I know how to party Smile

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 09/07/2020 05:16

It's already light.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 09/07/2020 06:26

Mine is awful! It's 27th January. I didn't mind it as a child but as an adult it's the middle of Winter (I suffer from very severe Raynauds so basically the worst time of year for me). It's tax return and payment time! It's the month after Christmas so tighter for money anyway. And it's also Holocaust Memorial Day so it generally feels quite wrong to celebrate a birthday given we are remembering the millions of people who died. I have considered "moving" it to July but my birthday isn't in July so that feels wrong too!!
