Does anyone hate their Birthday date?

I always liked my birthday as a kid (earlyJune) even with exams. I liked that it was nicer weather, perfect distance from Christmas and actually being a bit younger made me feel less pressure to have done things by a certain age. As an adult though, unless I'm abroad I find June a bit of a disappointing month, especially as the weather tends to go through a rubbish point after May. I'm now a real autumn lover, especially as you know what you're getting! I also look back and think how much harder I found school in primary. I caught up and had great teaching but I know a lot of summer babies dont. It also affected my self esteem in certain subjects.

I think about it more having dc. My baby was born in November and I really like the fact he will be older in the school year, although hope he doesnt find his Birthday too rubbish being near christmas! Hoping to always try and make it special.

Mine is New Year's Eve. Everybody forgets, everybody is busy, can't do anything or go anywhere as it's ££ and increasingly, people hate NYE anyway. My Mum's is Jan 2nd which is just as bad so we just go out for lunch on her birthday and sort of let it pass by.

I turn 40 this year and I'd like to celebrate but there's no point.

CorianderLord · 09/07/2020 10:36

Nah I'm May and had an exam on or either side of my birthday from year 9 until my third year of undergrad 😂 still like it

ExclamationPerfume · 09/07/2020 10:42

I'm August. I hated it at school as nobody sang happy birthday to me and I never got the class birthday card. I love it now though. Usually good weather and the children are not in school.

VenusOfWillendorf · 09/07/2020 10:48

Mid-January - everyone is on their healthy eating/gym-going drive but not quite given up on the new year resolutions, and they're doing dry January.
And its dark and cold!!

On the plus side, usually everyone is around, so there's usually a good turn out - even if everyone is ordering salads and water!

I'd love if it was in June, my favourite month. Usually long bright sunny days, and the promise of Summer still to come.

sashh · 09/07/2020 11:01

I do often think a summer birthday would be lovely
.... but what can you do. A birthday when its dark by half four is what the universe provided!

I did have one birthday in Australia, if you can get to the southern hemisphere you can have a summer birthday.

My aunt has a birthday hear Xmas and got all the joint presents. As a result my cousin who was born on Dec 26th ALWAYS got two presents from my mum with one in birthday paper.

I think half birthdays are a good idea, or swapping, my granddad offered to swap with one of his grandchildren.

My brother's is at the end of November, I've been buying advent cal lenders for him for a while, one was pork scratching, another had male grooming products. It really makes my life simple.

LilBee55 · 09/07/2020 11:15

Mines in September and always sucked as a kid because it was right after we went back to school so no one was really in party mood, but now I'm an adult it's actually alright!

IndieRo · 09/07/2020 11:25

I love the month my birthday is, April.. However my narcissist mothers birthday is two days after mine so she demanded all the attention. Also when my parents seperated my father would always play up just before her birthday which was usually my birthday. 13th Birthday and police being called to our house. I rarely celebrate my birthday and have though about telling people it's a different date.

TheBeeatAmbridge · 09/07/2020 11:27

It's mine today and until recent years I've loved having a July birthday. The only thing that's changed is my grandmother died on the 11th, then a few years later a dear friend took her own life on the 12th, so I find it hard to enjoy myself now, knowing those anniversaries are round the corner. I've talked about ignoring this date and celebrating it in October, my favourite time of year, but with lockdown I felt we needed a day or two to enjoy ourselves that bit sooner this year.

Deathraystare · 09/07/2020 13:18

Mine is very early January, everyone has had their fill for xmas and new year. No one wants to go out and you usually get a combined xmas and bday pressie, cards usually arrive late. Really shit

Are you my twin? Mine is very early January. I never got combined pressies or very rarely but the total un-interest in my birthday always gets to me! It is the only time I get princessy, honest!

employeewoes · 09/07/2020 13:20

Both my kids have early Jan birthdays, which are pretty crap. Not as bad as mine though - September 11th...

SleepingStandingUp · 09/07/2020 13:30

NYE here, only good in comparison to the fact I was due Christmas Day.
Was fine as a kid, always a party and staying up super late. Crap as a teen because everyone was expected to spend it with their family. Crap now older as its crazy expensive to go out on the day, everyone celebrates the end of it and everyone is more interested in Xmas/NYE

DS was due July, came May. May seems fine, one. Of the youngest but mid end not end end of school year, weather OK. Also so far it's always been May half term.

DTwins were due mid Jan, I was sure they'd come NYE or Christmas Day but they came mid Dec. I assume it'll be a nightmare for them growing up as its so close to Xmas, peak Work Do time, lots of families busy. Will def fall in mid term.

If you could plan it, I'd prob do for near DH birthday which is late Oct. So def older of the kids, good chance of half term holiday, it's kinda a slow time of year so people are up for a party. Weather generally not too awful.

There's exactly a year between us, I turn 4p next years NYE. Means I got lumbered turning 18 on 31/12/99 which was actually crap. At least you got a year ahead 😂
benadrylcucumberpatch · 09/07/2020 13:38

Mines Dec 25th. It's shite, no one ever remembers! When I was a kid I had a half birthday in June, but I have given up on this as an adult as people assume it's an attempt to celebrate my birthday twice and get twice as many cards/presents and I have had snarky comments.

I definitely feel I've missed out on that feeling of your birthday being a special day as I just see it as Christmas day.

0/10, would not recommend! No shagging on the 25th march 😂

rach2713 · 09/07/2020 13:47

I feel sorry for my daughters as 1 has a December birthday 6 days before xmas and my youngest has a January birthday which is 16th my other kids have gave a feb birthday and a September birthday..

Sootybear · 09/07/2020 14:00

Mine is the beginning of September. I love it as an adult but as a child my birthday often fell on the first day back at school. I only remember one party.

NC4Now · 09/07/2020 14:04

I’m December. It would be nice to have it further from Christmas to break the year up. I always feel pressure to think of what I want for my birthday and Christmas so close together, or don’t want to seem grabby so ask for a joint gift.
No-one ever comes out because it’s their works do.

salbodoodlecat · 09/07/2020 14:11

I have twins born on Boxing Day. It's crap.

Poppyismyfavourite · 09/07/2020 15:30

My Uncle's birthday is the 15th of December I think, so in their house the christmas tree wasn't allowed up until after his birthday! My mum always imposed this rule on us and I did it to DH too, even though he's only met him a handful of times!

I reckon the best times for birthdays are september-november or february-april.

This is my corrie dilemma. Dtwins born Dec 13th. Tree does up 12 days before Christmas normally. Do I go a day early or a day late?
Deathraystare · 09/07/2020 16:28

SleepingStandingUp The only joyful bit of my birthday being on 2nd january is that the decorations were still up. Sadly now I live alone in one room so no room for them now.

emwithme · 09/07/2020 16:34

Another one with a Valentine's Day birthday here. It's SHITE. If you want to go out with lots of people, no one wants to. If you want to just go out with your other half, you're crammed onto a tiny table with no elbow room and eating an overpriced set menu.

DH's birthday is Halloween. He's never had a birthday party that wasn't spooky themed.

We always joked we'd have a child born on Christmas Day. Fortunately DD got the memo and came at the end of November...

lakeswimmer · 09/07/2020 17:06

DS is 31st December and has never had joint Christmas and Birthday presents. In fact, I think he gets more birthday presents than his siblings because when relatives contact us to ask what the DC want for Christmas I sometimes give them a little reminder that it's DS's birthday too Smile

It's a PITA trying to book a table in a restaurant though.

ForeverBubblegum · 09/07/2020 17:07

I'm March, I quite liked it as a child. I thought it was better than my summer born sister, who always got garden stuff for her birthday, which was for communal use (eg. Swing, trampoline), whereas I got indoors thing that lived in my bedroom, so were just mine.

When I got older it wasn't so good as I wanted to take friends of outgoings instead of parties, and less was open.

As an adult it's even worse, I get valentines, mothers day and birthday all within a few weeks. So what detracts from all of them and DH gets sick of buying gifts.

zukiecat · 09/07/2020 17:39

Mine is towards the end of January (23rd) and I like it then as DD's is the 19th, she still lives with me and we are super close so we tend to have lunch out sometime in those four days.

I don't like my birthday being acknowledged, never have, for my 50th, I had no celebrations, no party, no anything, just cards from the DC, and small gifts from them, then I went to work as usual, no-one at work knew it was my birthday either.,

DrMadelineMaxwell · 09/07/2020 17:45

My birthday is mid Feb and falls in the half term. As a kid I missed a few parties as our village was snowed in. But as an adult and a teacher it's great as I usually have my birthday off.
