Does anyone hate their Birthday date?

I always liked my birthday as a kid (earlyJune) even with exams. I liked that it was nicer weather, perfect distance from Christmas and actually being a bit younger made me feel less pressure to have done things by a certain age. As an adult though, unless I'm abroad I find June a bit of a disappointing month, especially as the weather tends to go through a rubbish point after May. I'm now a real autumn lover, especially as you know what you're getting! I also look back and think how much harder I found school in primary. I caught up and had great teaching but I know a lot of summer babies dont. It also affected my self esteem in certain subjects.

I think about it more having dc. My baby was born in November and I really like the fact he will be older in the school year, although hope he doesnt find his Birthday too rubbish being near christmas! Hoping to always try and make it special.

Yep, 4 days before Christmas and my sister’s is 24th.
Spent childhood having joint birthday parties, joint Christmas and birthday presents.
I made very, very sure my dcs’ birthdays were as far from Christmas as possible.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 08/07/2020 16:48

I like my birthday (beginning of aug) I was never behind at school, but i wasn't top of the class either.
It was early enough into the holidays that I could still have a party, and people wouldn't forget about it.

Dds birthday is in July and for the last 5 years (but not this one) she has gone on an end of year school trip on her birthday. Which she loved.

Mines 26th December. I hate it. Your birthday becomes non-existant

Watto1 · 08/07/2020 16:48

Mine is a bit too close to Christmas. I’ve had several office Christmas dos on my birthday but at least I get a few drinks bought for me!

Namechangex10000 · 08/07/2020 16:48

My birthday is the beginning of November and I’ve always loved the date (not sure why, bit weird really!) I hate my birthday and don’t really celebrate but I love Halloween/fireworks/Christmas and the dark and it’s just my favourite time of year.

My oldest birthday always falls in the end of may half term which is a balls ache trying to arrange things! Middle child born in December and loves Christmas so is happy with although again, parties difficult as everyone has plans leading up to the 25th.

Youngest will be one of the youngest in year and I am still in two minds as to wether to make him start a year late (it’s an automatic “right” to choose where we live) I’ve never had to think of it before! Leaving school at 15 seems so young, I was nearly 17 when I left!

Gumbo · 08/07/2020 16:49

Mine is April the bloody 1st. Hilarious Hmm
I've always hated it, fed up with the endless same-old, same-old repetitive jokes that get made year after year...

EmpressSuiko · 08/07/2020 16:49

I’d much rather a lovely June birthday over January :( it’s a rather depressing month, everyone has spent all their money and everyone’s fizzled our from Christmas so it’s near impossible to ever do anything with anyone else and the weather is always cold and rubbish. I’ve always hated having a winter birthday and really do need to start celebrating a half birthday I think.

MissCalamity · 08/07/2020 16:50

Mine's in 2 weeks Grin

I was always in school when I was in primary, and it was always nice to have every sing to you and get your hair gently pulled and always in summer holidays at secondary so missed getting egged or floured.

Wasn't too bothered being the last turning 18 as I could get served anyway.

My mum's birthday is at the start of January so she was determined that her children wouldn't have a similar birth date!

joyjester · 08/07/2020 16:51

@vickibee

Mine is very early January, everyone has had their fill for xmas and new year. No one wants to go out and you usually get a combined xmas and bday pressie, cards usually arrive late. Really shit
snap! and its cold and generally miserable!
SkepticalCat · 08/07/2020 16:53

Another April birthday here. I love the positivity of springtime being on it's way and I associate Easter decorations (often pale yellow, bunnies, chicks etc) in shops etc with my birthday. As a child I quite liked the fact that depending on where Easter fell, my birthday would either be before, during or after the Easter hols.

JustanotherTuesday · 08/07/2020 16:53

My birthday is the middle of January but I sometimes still got joint Birthday and Christmas presents, when I was a child. I always envied children getting birthday announcements on holiday as I never could.
My oldest adult DS, his birthday is just over two weeks before Christmas and he has always really liked having two occasions in the same month.

kp5029b · 08/07/2020 16:54

I'm the 2nd January and also share it with my mum which is just the worst (and before everyone says it's lovely to share your day with your mum, trust me it's not!). I maintain that the 2nd is the worst as everyone is fed-up with celebrating after the Christmas and NY period, are completely broke and exhausted. Plus, most restaurants are closed on the 2nd for staff holidays so it makes it even harder. I can't count the amount of times I've tried to organise dinner and drinks on my birthday for people to say they've started their post-festive diets/detox - I gave up trying to enjoy my birthday years ago!

Bakedpotatoandgin · 08/07/2020 16:55

Mine's on Valentine's Day! Would not recommend. Nowhere to go out to eat as a family growing up, people make jokes about it, and I even once received a (tasteful, understated) valentines day card for a birthday card! Also awkward as a young adult now everyone is getting SOs, I don't want to celebrate on the day as it would ruin people's plans

happymummy12345 · 08/07/2020 16:55

Mine is in April. I hate the day it's on. I was due on the 14th, my mum had an elective c section and was given the choice of 2 dates. She chose the one she did because she said no one would ever forget my birthday. But it's quite annoying tbh

KetoWinnie · 08/07/2020 16:56

I do often think a summer birthday would be lovely
.... but what can you do. A birthday when its dark by half four is what the universe provided!

I'm a June birthday too and I love it, mostly because it is as you say the perfect distance from Christmas. I also love that it's midsummer, I like the connection to the solstice.

My youngest is a November baby and I feel sorry for him- it's dark, cold, wet, a month away from Xmas and he spends most of the year wishing it wasn't so long until his birthday.

KetoWinnie · 08/07/2020 16:58

@BookByte

Watching as my baby is due in late December, so I worry that their birthday will be overshadowed by Christmas.
It will be. Try and go ten days overdue
Chanel05 · 08/07/2020 16:58

Mine is 26th December and I love it!

KetoWinnie · 08/07/2020 16:59

💐🤣

Twizbe · 08/07/2020 17:00

I'm March which I liked until I became a mum. My birthday is very close to Mother's Day. I prefer to make a fuss over my birthday though so Mother's Day becomes less special.

My eldest is a late Jan baby. We liked it so much we managed to get the same due date for baby 2🤦‍♀️ she hung on though to arrive early Feb. My husband is Feb as well. We like to bunch birthdays lol

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 08/07/2020 17:00

I'm a Christmas Day baby and yes, I hate it.

wewillmeetagain · 08/07/2020 17:00

Mine is NYE, no one is interested in it because they have had enough of Christmas and want to celebrate the new year!

UnfinishedSymphon · 08/07/2020 17:01

Hate it, mine is Christmas Day and I got forgotten about. It doesn't bother me now but it did when I was a kid, despite my parents trying to make it special. Try organising a child's birthday party so near to Christmas lol

AnnieMaul · 08/07/2020 17:02

I hated my birthday until I was in my mid twenties(ish).
It's at the start of exam season, so every-single-year for about 10 years through secondary school, sixth form and university I had exams on or very close to my birthday. Which wasn't helped by Saturday exams when I got to University. I could never celebrate properly and friends were never able to join me as we'd all have exams.

I'm indifferent to it now!
