Does anyone hate their Birthday date?

I always liked my birthday as a kid (earlyJune) even with exams. I liked that it was nicer weather, perfect distance from Christmas and actually being a bit younger made me feel less pressure to have done things by a certain age. As an adult though, unless I'm abroad I find June a bit of a disappointing month, especially as the weather tends to go through a rubbish point after May. I'm now a real autumn lover, especially as you know what you're getting! I also look back and think how much harder I found school in primary. I caught up and had great teaching but I know a lot of summer babies dont. It also affected my self esteem in certain subjects.

I think about it more having dc. My baby was born in November and I really like the fact he will be older in the school year, although hope he doesnt find his Birthday too rubbish being near christmas! Hoping to always try and make it special.

I love my birthday at the end of may, although it always used to fall in half term when I was at school so people were quite often away for my parties. My partner is the first week in January and my daughter is 3 days before Christmas! Definitely feel for both of them. The beginning of January is a killer as everyone is skint and over it all from Christmas

Fishfingersandwichplease · 09/07/2020 06:35

End of August - weather can be hit and miss but never went to school on my birthday which was great but quite often, people are away. Hated being the youngest in school year but now love it! Always book my birthday off work cos in my mind, it is a day off!

fedupasalways · 09/07/2020 06:35

Mine is mid August and I love it. Never was at school for my birthday and unlike some wash behind other children it late starting puberty...

vampirethriller · 09/07/2020 06:35

Mines the first week of September and I hated it as a child because it was always just as school went back after summer holidays. Once it was the day we went back. These things matter when you're 8.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 09/07/2020 06:35

Oh and since l have had my birthday, feels like Autumn is suddenly here!

fedupasalways · 09/07/2020 06:36

Was never*

Zoflorabore · 09/07/2020 06:40

Mine is January 18th and it’s awful.. everyone is skint and fed up. I always used to get IOU’s as a child/teenager which would coincide with payday.

My dd’s is on Valentine’s Day and she loves it. She is only 9 though so I expect that will change.

PopsicleHustler · 09/07/2020 06:46

My baby is due january and my aunt basically told me then other day its a rubbish time if year for a birthday. Shes jan too.
I'm December and so is my eldest daughter. I don't mind really. And my darling husband and our wedding anniversary is November. And the rest of our other children are April. 3 out of 4 born in april lol.

PopsicleHustler · 09/07/2020 06:47

@Zoflorabore well,my due date is jan 18th lol

strawberriesunited · 09/07/2020 06:48

My birthday is mid may, i love it! Weather usually alright and its not that far in the year that i felt 'left out' when i was 18! But DD is 15th december... bit of a shit birthday, so close to christmas, people won't want to come out and have a party, expensive month! Poor kidGrin

PopsicleHustler · 09/07/2020 06:50

Sorry Re read my post, a bunch of typos. I am currently 3 months pregnant and expecting my 5th child, due January and my aunt who is also born January said it's a rubbish time of year to have a birthday! Lol reading everyone else's replies, it's all based on being broke as a joke after Christmas. Well I guess we are in luck then, as we are muslims and dont celebrate Christmas!!!

PopsicleHustler · 09/07/2020 06:51

But I am a winter baby and just got on with it. I dont mind

Dilbertian · 09/07/2020 06:52

1 April. Which is fine, now, but was miserable until I reached about 25/26 and the people around me matured enough to stop thinking it was hilarious to play practical jokes on me.

It was never my family or my closest friends playing tricks BTW, but classmates, friends of classmates, and colleagues.

I hate birthdays full stop

Thewoodstar · 09/07/2020 07:42

I don’t think January birthday are just rubbish because of being skint from Christmas. It’s just cold and dark and wet. And I’m a very outdoors person so I can’t do what I think would be fun.
I.e. picnic in the park
Camping weekend
Festival
Bbq at home where we can sit outside and it’s warm and light
Meet up in a local beauty spot for a long walk and beer garden
Long ride on the horses stopping off for a picnic

Yes I could do those things but the warm weather and dry ground are what makes them enjoyable. None of them cost much money.

Thewoodstar · 09/07/2020 07:53

Good things about early Jan birthday. I tend to find the presents are extra good. Mum and dad and DH go over the top to show that they care. And other people buy stuff in the sales, but as it’s all discounted they tend to buy bigger and more generous things. So if I get a beauty gift set, it will be the massive one rather then the basic small one. This is especially true at work. Where we have a set budget the same for each person. I always get the most as it’s all on sale 😁

That’s the only good thing I can think of though. And because mum and granny are January too, I’d often end up having to spend my birthday money on presents for them, (Which they totally deserved after treating me) as I too was always skint from Christmas and then trying to have a crap night out for my own birthday, which cost loads because it always had to be indoor stuff.
Bowling, cinema, meal out, indoor event hire, whatever it is, costs loads more than a picnic on the beach or a walk in the woods, or bbq.
But essentially when I was a late teenager , mum would give me money for my birthday, and so really just gave me money to buy her and granny’s presents. In a round about way. And you can’t save up me sue Christmas and NY clean you out.

As you can see, I have a lot of ‘issues’ about my birthday 😆🤣

Theeyeof · 09/07/2020 09:16

Mines mid December and as a child I used to get given gifts for both my birthday and Christmas on the same date.

ttigerlilly · 09/07/2020 09:27

My birthday is a few days before Christmas. I like it because it's such a festive time, but there a couple of down sides to it. It can be hard to get friends together - it usually seems to clash with work Christmas parties, or people have travelled away to see family, and some could be watching the pennies due to buying last minute presents.

People always ask me if I used to get joint presents for Christmas and my birthday. It wouldn't have bothered me if I had, but my birthday was always treated separately to Christmas. Looking back I can imagine this was a pricey time for my parents Blush

Minimamame · 09/07/2020 09:42

Mine is the middle of April and I’m happy with that. I had ds1 in April and it’s a lovely time of year to have a baby...bright mornings etc. My dh’s is 29th February! He loves it but personally I wouldn’t!!! Our ds (8) thinks it’s hilarious that his dad is technically only 10!!!

FairfaxAikman · 09/07/2020 09:52

I'm two weeks before Christmas. It's utterly shit.

I have to plan meals out around all my friends work Christmas parties and all the restaurants expect a deposit for a group booking, even though it's not a Christmas night out and they wouldn't ask for a group deposit any other month.

If I go out with just DH then we are shoved in the back of the restaurant (either next to the kitchens or the toilets) and basically ignored while they cater to the party groups.

ShyOwl · 09/07/2020 09:54

I'm end of jan, always about 2-3 days before anyone's pay day. Everyone's fed up, dieting and had the longest financial month ever...
My daughter arrived on my birthday ... as lovely as it is to share the day it's such an expensive time 🙈

Ozgirl75 · 09/07/2020 09:57

Mine is November - lovely. When I was growing up it was great as the shops were full of excellent presents for Xmas but it’s still 7 weeks from actual Xmas. Didn’t like that it normally rained! However, I now live in Australia and have a lovely warm birthday!

My sons are August (mid school year here) and beginning of December (fairly young in the year but not too bad). All dates have their good and bad bits but mine are all pretty good.

Ozgirl75 · 09/07/2020 09:59

Also in Australia we don’t have the insane long build up to Xmas and so I don’t feel like my son’s birthday gets subsumed into Xmas but i can imagine he might in the U.K.

Thewoodstar · 09/07/2020 10:01

Oh yes that’s another thing about Jan birthdays. Loads of people are dieting, or saving money or doing dry January. So more reasons they don’t want to come and celebrate. Or if they do it’s in a very half hearted way and obvious they are there to ‘make the effort for you’ rather then because they are actively wanting to come along.
