Does anyone hate their Birthday date?

I always liked my birthday as a kid (earlyJune) even with exams. I liked that it was nicer weather, perfect distance from Christmas and actually being a bit younger made me feel less pressure to have done things by a certain age. As an adult though, unless I'm abroad I find June a bit of a disappointing month, especially as the weather tends to go through a rubbish point after May. I'm now a real autumn lover, especially as you know what you're getting! I also look back and think how much harder I found school in primary. I caught up and had great teaching but I know a lot of summer babies dont. It also affected my self esteem in certain subjects.

I think about it more having dc. My baby was born in November and I really like the fact he will be older in the school year, although hope he doesnt find his Birthday too rubbish being near christmas! Hoping to always try and make it special.

Mine is very early January, everyone has had their fill for xmas and new year. No one wants to go out and you usually get a combined xmas and bday pressie, cards usually arrive late. Really shit

z0fl0ra · 08/07/2020 16:30

yes! i’m an end of august baby and while i went on lovely holidays as a kid over my birthday i never got the fuss at school all my friends had and was the last to do everything! i was also never behind them with school stuff but as a child i was a lot more emotionally immature than a lot of my friends even through college etc i never cared about boys as i still felt so young but didn’t start puberty til late or have my periods until i was 15 so that was possibly to blame for that rather than my summer birthday

BabyLlamaZen · 08/07/2020 16:32

Ah yes @vickibee I never fancied Jan! Sorry it's rubbish.

Interesting about August @z

Well hard luck really. What’s the alternative? Suppose you pick a day and have it then but doesn’t really matter does it?

BabyLlamaZen · 08/07/2020 16:34

I was just curious as to what birthdays people did and didnt like @Tlollj - partly to help me plan my future dc Grin

I’m a November person and when a child liked thatI was in the older end of the school year.
However when I got my first job, the office manager asked when my birthday was as she was in charge of sorting cards and gifts from the staff, etc. I told her, and she burst i to tears and ran from the office. Turned out it was the same date as her teen son was killed a few years beforehand in a road traffic accident. Hence my birthday was never celebrated inall the 6 years I worked there ☹️. I could understand her upset but looking back you would have thought someone else could have sorted my card etc.

Anyway, my daughter was born early Sept and so birthdays were i. The school hols, meaning I had to do invites at mid July at the end of term. Rarely got any replies and a few times I ended up having to ring round people just so she had people at her party!

DownToTheSeaAgain · 08/07/2020 16:38

After extensive research I have come to the conclusion that the worst day of the year for a birthday is 2nd Jan. No one wants to celebrate and it is often the first day back to work in the new year.

Mine is November which I love as everyone is in the mood to party but it is not too close to Christmas that they're over it all.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 08/07/2020 16:38

I like my birthday because it falls in spring and I find it a very positive time of year.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 08/07/2020 16:39

I love my birthday at the start of May. Usually the weather is improving and people are starting to be up for a drink after work with the lighter evenings. It also falls over a bank holiday very regularly so extra days off.

My poor friend had her birthday on 30th December...utter crap date.

iknowimcoming · 08/07/2020 16:39

Another early January birthday here and it's rubbish, no one can afford to go out even if they wanted to after all the xmas/new year stuff, people often forget or lump it in with xmas and my in-laws buy me shite that's in the January sales (obviously xmas gift sets and the like). I mean it's not ruined my life or anything but if I could pick it would definitely be in the summer Grin

Bells3032 · 08/07/2020 16:40

I have a friend whose birthday is 1st January. He tells everyone it's June 30th instead

Thneedville · 08/07/2020 16:40

We’ve had consistently better weather for my October DC birthday than for my June DC birthday.

I think October is good, low risk of being so early that born in wrong school year, weather in early October is usually good.

I’m July, I like a summer birthday. But late primary/ early secondary I was definitely more immature emotionally than other girls, then you get stuck with being uncool.

My June DC struggled emotionally starting school at just turned 4, it was very obvious compared to his autumn brother who was only one school year older. Wasn’t a problem academically.

Sudename · 08/07/2020 16:41

Mine is late February and usually falls at the start of Lent

DrDreReturns · 08/07/2020 16:41

Late November here. I don't like it. Crap weather and it gets caught up with the run up to Christmas.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 08/07/2020 16:43

Mine is close to Christmas when it's cold, wet and dark. I'm not a fan. My best friend is born in June, and I was very envious as a child that she could have a BBQ and paddling pool parties for her birthday. No one would come if I did that at the beginning of December!

BabyLlamaZen · 08/07/2020 16:43

@twospaniels that's awful!

Dogsaresomucheasier · 08/07/2020 16:43

Early January is pants! No making babies over Easter!

Paradiseinportugal · 08/07/2020 16:44

Mine is February 28th and a lot of people feel that it's funny and original to say. Aren't you lucky it wasn't the 29th. Nope, because I wasn't born a leap year.

lakeswimmer · 08/07/2020 16:44

April birthday here - I like it because its starting to get warmer and lighter and my birthday is often one of the first nice, warm days of the year. At school it was often in the Easter holidays.

November is my least favourite month and I always feel sorry for November birthdays - it's dark, wet and has no redeeming features IMHO!

Favourite time of year is late May/early June - long days, plants and trees are lovely and the weather is often really good.

BabyLlamaZen · 08/07/2020 16:44

@IwishIhadaMargarita I actually forget there are days between 25th December and new year's eve!

MsEllany · 08/07/2020 16:45

I like mine but husband is best - his almost always falls over a BH weekend.

My twins are in January. After Christmas but before payday. It is not fun having to budget for that!

KarenKuruma · 08/07/2020 16:45

Christmas Eve 😕
Going out for my birthday is nigh on impossible

StarScream22 · 08/07/2020 16:46

Mines end of November and I love it. Everyone’s in the mood to party, it’s usually the first weekend of Xmas markets and it’s just my fave time of year. Pretty much my whole family is November, as we clearly like to get jiggy on Valentine’s Day.

drownininplaymobil · 08/07/2020 16:47

My dd3 has her birthday on Dec 28th which is truly crap. We're celebrating her half birthday instead on June 28th.

My birthday is Sept 8th which was also a bit rubbish as it was always the first week back at school. It never fell in the summer holidays and everyone had always had all summer to forget that it was going to be my birthday. At least the weather was usually okay though. And I did enjoy being the oldest. I think Sept 1st would be ideal! Or September 20th.
