Does anyone hate their Birthday date?

I always liked my birthday as a kid (earlyJune) even with exams. I liked that it was nicer weather, perfect distance from Christmas and actually being a bit younger made me feel less pressure to have done things by a certain age. As an adult though, unless I'm abroad I find June a bit of a disappointing month, especially as the weather tends to go through a rubbish point after May. I'm now a real autumn lover, especially as you know what you're getting! I also look back and think how much harder I found school in primary. I caught up and had great teaching but I know a lot of summer babies dont. It also affected my self esteem in certain subjects.

I think about it more having dc. My baby was born in November and I really like the fact he will be older in the school year, although hope he doesnt find his Birthday too rubbish being near christmas! Hoping to always try and make it special.

Mines 3 weeks before Christmas and I hate it. Didn't bother me as a child but as an adult it's a hectic time of year so it all just gets lost in the run up to Christmas.
I see things I'd love as a present all year and have to wait, but then come my birthday I have to think of two lots of ideas for myself in quick succession whilst trying to plan what to buy everyone else for Christmas.
My DC are spring babies and I think that's a nice time of year for birthdays.

Sairafina · 08/07/2020 17:03

I purposely planned my pregnancy to have an October/November baby and he is due 2nd November so I got my wish! Mine is 2 days before Christmas which I have always adored. If it was two days after it may be a different story!

EasilyDelighted · 08/07/2020 17:04

I was fine with mine till I had both DCs within a month or so before it, now by the time mine comes round we're all birthdayed out. I wish they were more spread through the year.

Poppyismyfavourite · 08/07/2020 17:06

Mine is September which I liked, except that I always had to decide who to invite to birthday parties without really knowing anyone as it was the beginning of the school year.
My sister is August which is a bit rubbish because a) she's the youngest in the year and really struggled, and b) all her friends were usually on holiday for her birthday - she's always been popular but never had many at her party!

Mmmmycorona · 08/07/2020 17:11

Yes, I hate mine. Very early jan. It’s crap and I’m always glad once it’s done with.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 08/07/2020 17:12

Mine's December 25th. One day a year to look forward to and then I have to share it with everybody else and buy presents to give to them on MY birthday. It really doesn't get much worse. No going out for a special meal (Christmas party bookings only in most places from the start of Dec), freezing cold and the joy of having to smile when I have to give my date of birth. After 50 odd years I know what day my birthday falls on I don't need to be told every.single.time.

netflixismysidehustle · 08/07/2020 17:13

I have an October birthday and love it. I love autumn and as an adult I'm definitely a hot drink and walk in the cool weather rather than sunbathe in the heat kind of person

Saladd0dger · 08/07/2020 17:13

24th of June. I love it.

TheBestSpoon · 08/07/2020 17:14

DH is 2 January, and agree it's the worst birthday possible! First day back at work, always bad weather, everyone's still doing their New Year resolutions and is poor after Christmas, so no celebrations...

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 08/07/2020 17:17

Mine's Feb when it's cold cold cold. I have summer birthday envy.

BearSoFair · 08/07/2020 17:20

I'm the second week of September. Liked that I was always one of the oldest in the school year, but hated that it was always spoiled by the fact you'd just gone back to school and were a bit tired and miserable about it. No big pros or cons at all as an adult!

lalahotpants · 08/07/2020 17:22

Mines the 4th November, day before fireworks night, 18th birthday? Fireworks party, 21st? Fireworks party, 30th? Yip in a club that also had a fireworks party! 40th is next year, if anyone mentions fireworks i will actually scream!!!

DownToTheSeaAgain · 08/07/2020 17:24

After extensive research I have come to the conclusion that the worst day of the year for a birthday is 2nd Jan. No one wants to celebrate and it is often the first day back to work in the new year.

Mine is November which I love as everyone is in the mood to party but it is not too close to Christmas that they're over it all.

dottiedodah · 08/07/2020 17:26

I like my Birthday date (September) .When at School of course had to go back after the hols! However its a nice month weather wise ,and always feel better after the Summer as not too hot but still pleasant . Feel sorry for DD birthday in December though!(not planned that way)

Pokkadots · 08/07/2020 17:31

End of December here, I hate my birthday.

Raella50 · 08/07/2020 17:34

Oh wowwww I’m Jan 2nd and always like it! I’m a bit sad to read other people deciding mine is the worst birthday possible. I was always still off school on my birthday and did something nice with my family, then time to remind my friends when we went back to school that week and we had a big party on the following weekend. I felt really special all week after Christmas when everyone is off school with nothing to do and me and Mum would spend time preparing stuff for my party. It was like one big celebration month! Plus I always liked having it dark on the day so my candles looked better Grin my sister had a June birthday and when you turned the lights out to bring in the cake it was still light!! I was old enough in the year to do lots of things early on (like when we all got our ears pierced for our 11th birthday or when we started driving lessons on our 17th) but not the first either. I still like it now! I did in uni choose to ha e a great big NYE blow o it hurt he at party a couple of years. Now we tend to have quiet NYE with the family and go out a couple of days later to celebrate mine. It’s much quieter and it’s the last celebration before we go back to normality after those school holidays. I wouldn’t change it.

MintyMabel · 08/07/2020 17:37

Mid year, far away from Christmas, sounds ideal.

AGoodYearfortheRoses · 08/07/2020 17:39

@Bakedpotatoandgin snap! It’s a bit rubbish isn’t it 🙄

lymphopenia · 08/07/2020 17:40

Mine is just just before Christmas. Some people especially when i was very young used to say some really rude things

"Gosh how awful for you with Christmas overshadowing everything"
"Bet you get loads of joint presents"
"Your parents planned that badly"

It really annoys me. I love my birthday and it's all I've ever known! My parents and family always make it special and I've never had joint presents from anyone.

The only annoying thing is a lack of cards available around xmas and having to book a table in advance because of staff Xmas parties. I still love it though!

nixso29 · 08/07/2020 17:40

My bday 29th June and hubby's is 1st June love having them both in the same month as we always try to book a holiday mid-June so it's a late/early bday celebration for both of us! Love having mine almost in the middle of the year but didn't like it so much being the youngest in school year. Had a very baby face and so all my friends turning 18 before me meant I couldn't always go out for celebrations!

Hannah888 · 08/07/2020 17:41

Mine is,1st January. No post on that day but it seems nobody knows so cards arrive over several days. Always joint Christmas and birthday pre sents. Nobody wants to party cos theu have had enough. Just as well because until recent years
Everywhere was closed! Celebrate on NYE though.

morefun · 08/07/2020 17:46

Mine's towards the end of August and I loved it. Often sunny to do nice things, far from Xmas. Was youngest in the year but that was something I didn't really feel aware of, and not at all in academic terms.

BlusteryShowers · 08/07/2020 17:47

Mine is in March. It's good but close to Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and also our anniversary so it can get a bit lost.

DH has very end of December and hates it. I always try to make sure we do something non Christmassy on the day.

My daughter is April fools day. I feel very guilty about that! I was determined to get her out on 30th March but it wasn't to be.

LynetteScavo · 08/07/2020 17:51

My birthday is on the best day of the year! I couldn't have chosen it better myself. I didn't realise other people don't much like their birthday day, except those with Christmas birthdays.

diddl · 08/07/2020 17:51

Just before Christmas & I love it!
