How many unread emails have you got in your inbox?

waltzingparrot · 06/07/2020 15:09

A mysterious maverick known only as “Joey M.”, from Rhode Island, has managed to amass 4,294,967,256 unread emails in his inbox. He is the current world record holder for most unread emails

I thought I was bad with 1,466 but the above makes me feel much better about it. Seriously, what are the chances of one of them being from a solicitor about some unknown aunt leaving me a million pounds?

Most are from Debenhams offering me 30% off in their never ending sale.

I could just ditch them all in one go couldn't I?

None. I couldn't cope if there were lots.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 06/07/2020 20:59

8628 - personal account - all are about trying to sell me stuff / subscriber list circulars. I do occasionally do a delete splurge. But there is so many
0- work account

Those of you that have lots unread, how do you know that there aren't ones that are important or you would want to read in there?

sqirrelfriends · 06/07/2020 21:06

I thought I'd come on here and blow all of you out of the water with my 19,081, obviously I'm not as impressive as I thought 😂

BrieAndChilli · 06/07/2020 21:08

My record was about 136,000.
I then went through and deleted them all over the course of a few weeks. Vowed never to let it build up again..... currently foot 11,193 Blush

I get so many every day I read the ones I need to do I know I haven’t missed any but when I’m busy I end up not deleting the spam/marketing ones.

I did say I was going to unsubscribe to ones but that takes ages to do as well!

They get filtered into Social, Promotions or Updates. I trust Google to filter the important ones Grin. Tbf, when I remember, I check my Spam folder. But not many people email these days.

LadyCatStark · 06/07/2020 21:11

6996 which is a pleasingly symmetrical number 😊

At home - 19

At work, when I left today - 0 (ready for tomorrow's onslaught).

Talking of emails, I've had 4 today wanting to talk to me about my tv licence. Hmm. Not falling for that one. Especially since I've never given the tv licence people my email address Grin

frustrationcentral · 06/07/2020 21:12

I had 66k up until last week when I got really fed up of having to delete emails to be able to send any. I sat and worked out the easiest way of doing it, having spent years with that amount.

I now have 4 :)

I judge it off the subject and sender, most is junky social media stuff

Thegreymethod · 06/07/2020 21:13

7,670! It drives me mad having the little red bubble with unread items on messages or phone calls but for some reason I'm blind to the email one! I've tried marking all as read but more appear so I give up!

BrieAndChilli · 06/07/2020 21:22

@frustrationcentral what did you work out to be the easiest way please??

cece · 06/07/2020 21:23

About 1040. It varies a bit.

winterisstillcoming · 06/07/2020 21:27

I have about 10000. What's the solution??? I'd love to sort them but where to start???

LER83 · 06/07/2020 21:27

Doesn't tell me an exact number, just 50,000+ Blush I never delete them and they are pretty much all junk! My dh is horrified, he either deletes or moves to a folder straight away!

Yes I do know. I don't get many emails sent to my personal account that need actioning or replying. And even then, I'm expecting them. I do open some of them, like buying confirmations, and I do check my emails daily just in case there is something. I just don't open or delete the crap

I check my inbox several times a day, never miss an important one, just don't bother opening all the junk ones.

xanthippe8 · 06/07/2020 21:34

12, they're from Shell Energy telling me how much power we've used, but we know that anyway because we have a smart meter, I could delete them but just like to have them there for easy reference, a bit daft I know!

healthylifestylee · 06/07/2020 21:37

30 across a few email accounts

frustrationcentral · 06/07/2020 21:40

@BrieAndChilli, I just deleted all unread, having checked I hadn't missed any recent important emails. I check several times again so its unlikely anything would have passed me by..

Crunchymum · 06/07/2020 21:42

13,609 in my personal inbox none unread in my work inboxes (I have a few!)

DonaldJTrumpet · 06/07/2020 21:50

I now feel like my 14k is simply not enough. Must do better.

I once started a new email address because there was too much shot in the other. I also started young so had a very embarrassing address. It was my name and a Smug alliteration. Think [email protected]. Some things are still linked to it and I think there are millions of unread.

For clarification, my work email is spotless and I scroll through personal emails once every few days or if I am expecting emails then a few times a day. The title or sender shows me it's all shit.

A notification with 1 or another small number next to the app really annoys me but the large number doesn't bother me.
