How many unread emails have you got in your inbox?

waltzingparrot · 06/07/2020 15:09

A mysterious maverick known only as “Joey M.”, from Rhode Island, has managed to amass 4,294,967,256 unread emails in his inbox. He is the current world record holder for most unread emails

I thought I was bad with 1,466 but the above makes me feel much better about it. Seriously, what are the chances of one of them being from a solicitor about some unknown aunt leaving me a million pounds?

Most are from Debenhams offering me 30% off in their never ending sale.

I could just ditch them all in one go couldn't I?

OMG I feel soooo much better after reading some of these replies. I have 245 in my personal email account, which I had previously thought was a lot, and 0 in my work one!

Work and personal. I get many, many per day at work. Some are tripe, and some are super important. I live in fear of missing stuff.

LoseLooseLucy · 06/07/2020 19:55

JFC, I get antsy above about twenty!

Seeing these numbers I need a lie down.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 06/07/2020 19:59

None! It drives me potty having unread emails. I probably check them obsessively.

Chitlin · 06/07/2020 20:04

I just can't get my head around this. Y'all know there's a delete button, right?

Tinamou · 06/07/2020 20:06

None Smile

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 06/07/2020 20:08

32,000 in personal email, usually several thousand in work email once I've been in a job any length of time. I find it quicker to skim over subject lines and just ignore the irrelevant/ uninteresting ones than actually delete them.

Roominmyhouse · 06/07/2020 20:08

None, and I don’t know why those with huge amounts just don’t clear their inbox completely if they aren’t going to bother reading them.

The environmental impact of sending and storing emails is apparently not good and I’m not sure if deleting them helps but I prefer to delete or unsubscribe as much as possible.

CherryPavlova · 06/07/2020 20:10

None. Work account is managed meticulously. Someone from business services does it for me, if I’m away.
Personal account is usually mainly deleted on reading.

UnitedRoad · 06/07/2020 20:14

5, and even that annoys me, so I’ll deal with it now. I’m having a no spend year (as much as possible), so have unsubscribes to all the shops that used to clutter up my inbox.

Nquartz · 06/07/2020 20:17

Personal, only about 5, I keep a tidy inbox.

Work, about 200 but I've been on furlough for 2 months. First job tomorrow is clearing my inbox!

Paintdry · 06/07/2020 20:19

1000s in each email account, 5 personal, 2 work ones. Think the worst one has over 30k

I have 586 in work.

I have to be away from my computer for chunks of the day, so I can't monitor my inbox.
They just constantly add up.
If I wanted to workloads of overtime, then I could keep on top,but i don't wanna.

29,000 approx Blush

In my defence I don't work and they're mostly junk

However I've created a massive job for myself as I'm in the midst of an admin/complaint issue and having to wade through them so I'm going through a few hundred a day, deleting, creating new folders etc

It's shameful that it's only just occurred to me I can have as many folders as I like of whatever description - again in my defence I think this is because I am an older user and I still very much remember when it was very limited in what you could do with your email account eg only 6 folders etc

It's pure laziness on my part.

I'm also doing a LOT of unsubscribing and quite annoyed I'm getting emails from companies I KNOW I never signed up to! (Eg I'm veggie and I've got emails from artisan butchers!)

Honestly the vast vast majority of it is shite I have zero interest in

I hate that so many online retailers now you buy ONE thing from them and you're on the sodding mailing list whether you want to be or not!

When I'm working and it's work emails I'm dealing with they rarely are even unattended to for more than 30 minutes. I'm very quick at dealing with official matters.
