I used to know a yellow Labrador called Briggs. Admittedly, that was the name on the tag on his collar so was most likely the name of his family. But it seemed to suit him ( as far as I was concerned) so he was always Briggs to me, whatever his actual name may have been. If I ever have a male yellow Labrador, he will be called Briggs.

@Zippetydoodahzippetyay

Oh and my Uncle had a dog called "Deefer". As in "D for dog"
We had a cat called "Ceefa"

I love human names for animals. I have cats Rosie and Bert.

My old lab had her name chosen by my CBeebies-mad 3 yo DD "Princess Pippin Lola"

DD is now 16 and wants the next dog to be called Geoff. I approve.

A fellow mumsnetter once had kittens called Sam and Dean (after the Winchester brothers in Supernatural)

I've known a Dave the dog and a Dave the cat. Silly but raises a smile from me.

My parents owned a Stanley Man the Standard Poodle.

Friend’s cat was called Pushtin. He was a stray that every time they opened the door he pushed in. They adopted him!

I had a cat called Mewsly
I also had a dog called Zebedee which was a really good name for him as he would bounce up and down if he saw anyone or anything.

There’s a cat I know called mcFluff which makes me smile whenever I hear it

A parrot with no feathers called Oven Ready.
A small rabbit called Sandwich.
A collie called Melon.

I wanted to call our cat Clawdine but was overruled.

NotYourDawg · 04/07/2020 14:55

I wish I'd stuck to my guns and called my Rosie "Greebo" . If I didn't know better I would have sworn Terry Pratchett based the cat in his books on my fluffy psychopath.

Babyroobs · 04/07/2020 14:56

I love human names for pets. I have a cocker spaniel called Miles, my friend has a cat called Audrey and a goldfish called Colin. Some of these names are great.

If I ever had a cat he would definitely be called Throgmorten but sadly we're all allergic! It's just such a cat name. You couldn't have a dog called Throgmorten.

I’ve got friends with a dog called Beryl and another set of friends with a dog called Doris. Our dog is Maggie. I think they’d be perfect sitting on the same table at the old people’s day centre.
