What is the best or most original name you have known for a family pet or other animal?

I used to know a yellow Labrador called Briggs. Admittedly, that was the name on the tag on his collar so was most likely the name of his family. But it seemed to suit him ( as far as I was concerned) so he was always Briggs to me, whatever his actual name may have been. If I ever have a male yellow Labrador, he will be called Briggs.

Cats called george and Mildred

Elderly lady who I used to live a couple of doors down from had a cat called Hepzibah. Always used to make me smile when I heard her outside calling for it 😊

When I was training to be a Veterinary Nurse my favourite patient was a big ginger cat called Hannibal - he had loudest purr & the soppiest nature. One of my work colleagues had a cat called Only... when the cat came in the room everyone used to say " it's Only the cat". I also know a minature shetland pony called Wonky & my friend's horse is called Elvis.

We had two hamsters called Killer and Tiddles
And 2 guinea pigs called Daphne and Velma

Childhood pets:

Mice named Brian and Howie (I was in a Backstreet Boys phase)
Hamsters named George and Doug (ER was big at the time) and also Elvis, Pepsi and Tiny (a fucking vicious Russian hamster).
Guinea pigs Chloe and Katy.
Rabbit named Elmer Fudd because he was grumpy.

Dogs had typical dog names.

My cats are Lottie and Jasper. Jasper is a girl, but like Lucy mentioned above, was wrongly sexed as a kitten. However it suits her, so it stuck.

Giant African Land Snails named Bob and Henry.

Hens named Henrietta and Penelope (Henny Penny). Others were named Betty, Cilla, Gertrude and Nugget.

I've met tortoises named George and Mildred.

I love human names on animals.

Someone at the yard where I kept my horse had two horses called Derek and Rodney 😂

I’ve always wanted a horse called Dave.
That’s very outing to anyone who knows me!

My tortoise back in the 70s was called Jeremy!
All our pets/ animals (horses) have always had human names.

We had a guinea pig called Rodney.

My Aunt and Uncle had a budgie called Goliath. I don't think he was that big!

Boots - was a ginger cat with 4 white paws that looked like boots.

I knew a dog called oiy oiy .

I won't say because I use it as a password but I thought of it when I was 4 years old and it's quite unique. The original was a cat when I was that age but my parents had another cat with the same name when I was an adult and had a child of my own.

My mum met Jarvis Cocker and told him "oooh we had a rabbit named after you!" The rabbit was Jarvis Hopper and Jarvis said he was honoured

We have a 6 week old hamster, her name is Hamela Hamderson.

We named our pet goldfish after our mum and dad - Mary and John. Came home from school one day to discover Mary had eaten John.

We had a dog called Georges Pompidou growing up...a lovely Cairn Terrier

I had a goat called Robert and my favourite riding school pony as a child was called Shane

A mean toy poodle named Impy

I used to know someone who called her cat 'little small thing'. Weird.

I had a goldfish called Jazz when I was a kid - named because he had jazzy black polkadots on one side!

We had to look after a baby seagull for a few days once - DS named him Colin.

We want a dog called Stig because it'll spend it's days at work with DH at the dump 🤣
