What is the best or most original name you have known for a family pet or other animal?

I used to know a yellow Labrador called Briggs. Admittedly, that was the name on the tag on his collar so was most likely the name of his family. But it seemed to suit him ( as far as I was concerned) so he was always Briggs to me, whatever his actual name may have been. If I ever have a male yellow Labrador, he will be called Briggs.

An ex of mine had a cat called Graham. A shop which sells handmade dog treats by me makes dog birthday cakes, one of the names on the flyer is for a Gaspode

My parents had a dog when I was a baby called Poggle. I've no idea where they got the name from.

I love the thought of someone shouting Gary across a field.

I once met a pug called Dave. For some reason I found that hilarious!

I knew a massive bruiser of a tomcat with scarred ears called .... Lucy. Wrongly sexed kitten, the owners said he only answered to Lucy and so didn't change his name.

When I was married we inherited a cat called Socks. We then got a hamster and called him Shoes.

A gerbil called Mouse because we used to say to the cat "where's the mouse?"

Rats at different times called Lavender and Lilac and Marmite and Tiptoe.

Cats called Barnaby and Troy after characters in Midsomer Murders.

My current cat is called Haribo. We both love Tangfastics but that was a bit of a mouthful.

I've known cats called Eartha Kitt and The Great Catsby. I also knew a dog called Margaret Thatcher who was very eager to please and did exactly as she was told.

As a child we had guinea pigs called Pinky and Porky.

We had a cat called Garvaghy, after Garvaghy Rd in NI,where there used to be disputes about 11 July marches through Catholic areas. My husband comes from that area, and Patrick Kielty at the time had a dog on his show dressed up in Orangeman robes called Garvaghy When the cat went into next door’s garden, we would say it’s his traditional route and he should be allowed.

I’ve known a hamster called Gripper (very bitey) and a horse called Gloves. We used to have a rabbit called Ninja. She was awesome but often swift and vengeful.

When I was growing up, the governor of Hong Kong had a pair of Norfolk terriers called Whiskey and Soda.

I know cats called Folly and Minx and our neighbours have a bulldog called Napoleon.

Our corn snake is called Pike.

Because he's a lavender corn snake & Ian Lavender played Pike in Dad's Army.

One cat is called Changes.

Because the David Bowie song goes 'Ch Ch Ch Ch Changes' and the ch ch ch noise is what we make to call them in.
