I used to know a yellow Labrador called Briggs. Admittedly, that was the name on the tag on his collar so was most likely the name of his family. But it seemed to suit him ( as far as I was concerned) so he was always Briggs to me, whatever his actual name may have been. If I ever have a male yellow Labrador, he will be called Briggs.

We used to have a pet bird that we initially called something similar to Archibald, but then discovered it was a female, so she became Archibaldine.

Friends of ours had a female Samoyed called Alan. It wasn't her 'official' name but their daughter had come up with it as a nickname and it had stuck, so she was Alan for years.

Another friend shared a house with a guy who had a black cat called Ethnic Minority.

Did you used to watch Spaced? Colin was Daisy's dog's name.

(We have 3 cats alreayd and they hate each other so we are holding off for a bit).

We have a dog called Mathilde. The french spelling is critical to her name as I was going through a phase (prolonged, ongoing) of wishing I were French.
