What is the best or most original name you have known for a family pet or other animal?

I used to know a yellow Labrador called Briggs. Admittedly, that was the name on the tag on his collar so was most likely the name of his family. But it seemed to suit him ( as far as I was concerned) so he was always Briggs to me, whatever his actual name may have been. If I ever have a male yellow Labrador, he will be called Briggs.

A friend's aunt had a cat called Oedipus. Then they got him neutered and he was renamed Oedipum (one for the Classicists, that).

Had a pair of kittens called Fringey and Mugtree. Fringey ran away and Mugtree got run over Confused

Had a cat called Dave. Lived to a great old age. He was a delightful cat, but quite dim. Dave suited him perfectly.

A cat called Quatre because she was our fourth cat and Quatre sounds like CATra. ( forgive me, I was about 6)

Similarly we had Fünf for our fifth cat. She was absolutely bonkers, but had a congenital disease and died very young.

The next cat was called Radar because his ears swivelled in all directions.

After that we had Cruise Missile (it was the 80s!) She ended up being called Duchess because she was so regal.

Currently we have Lester. I wanted something a bit Jazz so he was named for Lester Young and Sonny Lester.

The naming of cats, as T.S Eliot pointed out, is a serious matter...Grin

If the Prime Minister were a dog I could imagine him as a fluffy golden retriever. I had a big, bumbling guinea pig with long fluffy messy blonde fur and we nicknamed her Boris in honour of the PM. I adopted her age 3 and she already had the rather boring named of Nibbles. I maybe would have called her Boris if she hadn't already had a name. lovely piggie but sadly died of kidney issues aged 5.

There's a college in Cambridge with guinea pigs called Emmeline Squeakhurst, Virguinea Woolf, Ruth Bader-Guineasburg, and Oreo.
