I have just bought a Bissell crosswave, and it is amazing. I feel so organised with lovely clean floors.

What have you bought that has made a real difference to your life?

Shamelessly materialistic

@Cattermole

A motor home. A washing machine (my dad refused to allow my mum to have one so I grew up washing my clothes in the bath.)

And me Tankie, who is the first proper "rescue" cat we've had and who rewards the amount we spent on him - adoption fees and donations to his not inconsiderable vet bills before we adopted him: massive injuries that he was not expected to survive. He is a massive asshole and a thug and every day he is so bloody grateful for having a home that it makes you humble.

what was your dad's reasoning for washing machine?

did they ever have one?

Cattermole · 14/08/2020 17:48

@00100001 that he was an abusive arsehole, really. He didn't want to pay for one, he didn't want the disruption of having one plumbed in (1930s semi that had the kitchen it had had fitted in 1970-frozen-to-death when he died in 2017) and he used to say to mum that she could have one if she paid for it.
Being mentally and physically unfit for work, obviously she was unable to do that.
One of the great joys of both of our lives now is the casual wash. Not having to worry about clean clothes.

00100001 · 14/08/2020 19:50

does she have one now?

Cattermole · 14/08/2020 20:01

She does, @00100001. It took her a bit to work out how to use it (it came with her flat and it's one of those variable-setting washer dryers so beeps and flashes) but she loves a bit of laundry action these days!

00100001 · 14/08/2020 21:05

Oh good, I'm pleased!!

Cattermole · 14/08/2020 21:18

It's what we do for fun @00100001 - sometimes I do hers, she doens't have a washing line (but line-dried sheets!!!), and in wet weather she does my bedding in her dryer and we sit there watching it go round like we're watching the telly.
Not for the full 3 hours, obviously, but the novelty hasn't worn off yet :-D

Amazing!

I'd be so tempted to buy er the whizziest and best machine there is! :D

My nutribullet. I dithered about getting a cheaper version but glad I got the real deal. 3 years old and use it several times a week, but rarely for smoothies! Made curry paste in it tonight.

Rescue dog. It's nearly our 1 year anniversary and she's SO good for me!

Ergonomic wireless keyboard and mouse during lockdown.

Shaped wax strips for eyebrows.

My aladdin bra free water bottle. I just love everything about it, so much that when I thought I'd lost it I bought another one. My expensive thermal insulated metal bottle is also much loved, as is my tea flask.
