Favourite George Michael song?

Caught a George Michael documentary on All 4 and just reminded me what an amazing singer and songwriter he really was.
I love Cowboys and Angels, the introduction is just perfection. What's your favourite?

So many favourites but if I had to choose one right now it would be Kissing a Fool.

baldisbeautiful · 28/06/2020 15:08

36 years ago today I was at the final at Wembley. They achieved so much at such a young age. Fantastic day, wonderful fun being a young teenager in the early eighties.

CassandraCross · 28/06/2020 15:08

Sorry I can't pick just one.

Careless Whisper - the memories it evokes of a particular time in my life are precious.

Somebody to Love at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert - just sublime. It shows the true talent and genius that George had that he could sing that iconic Freddie song so impeccably. I love watching it especially the reaction of Brian May, he knows how excellent it is. I also imagine Freddie up there somewhere beaming and saying "Alright!"

Fast Love
I Can't Make You Love Me
Outside
Freedom
Papa Was a Rolling Stone
Jesus to a Child

George was an incredible person and talent, so sorely missed.

Starks that rehearsal video is brilliant.

Loved George SO much and it's hard to choose a favourite song but 'Waiting for the Day' is so beautiful. xx

fullofhope100 · 28/06/2020 15:30

THAT day!

Megatron · 28/06/2020 15:38

A Different Corner. Oh his voice is so beautiful on that record.

iknowimcoming · 28/06/2020 15:45

@baldisbeautiful - I was there too, me and my friend both 15, travelled alone by coach there and back, things were different then!

Doggodogington · 28/06/2020 15:50

As featuring Mary J Blige
Careless whisper
Father figure
Last Christmas
Don’t let the sun with Elton John

feelingverylazytoday · 28/06/2020 15:51

I love his cover of Wild is the wind as well

OceanPacific · 28/06/2020 16:32

@knobblybobbly - I agree with you about Adele. Not sure about Sam Smith - miserable songs IMO.

I was meant to be seeing Adam Lambert with Queen earlier this month.

MIchael Hutchence - so sexy in voice and body. There's a great documentary about him on Netflix.

Loved Andrew Ridgeley's book. I realised that as I read it that my DH looks a lot like him. 😂

Animum2 · 28/06/2020 17:13

Different Corner, father figure and Careless Whisper

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/06/2020 17:38

DH and I went to see "Last Christmas" (incredibly cheesey Christmas film) but I heard a song and had to come home (once the film finished , onvs) and look it up.

Heal the Pain.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/06/2020 17:41

And speaking of Good Parenting ....my DD would stop if she heard Queen songs and say "That's Freddie Mercury , he's the best singer in the world" when she was little .

Not that I encoraged her or anything Grin but playing Queen songs in the car must've filtered in.....

Starksforthewin · 28/06/2020 18:47

AnyFucker I wish we really knew definitively what happened to George.
Yes he had fatty liver disease, but so do thousands of people walking around today.

I don’t know if this is controversial, but I hate that fucker who left him alone on Christmas Eve, then took AN HOUR to call an ambulance, then tried to blackmail George’s family to give him one of George’s London properties.
He is probably the only person who really knows the truth of George’s last hours, yet all he wanted was money.

Sorry if I am derailing.

Nowifi · 28/06/2020 19:44

So many to choose from!

Spinning the wheel
Star People
December Song

Is anyone else waiting for a George Michael musical? It would be amazing! Surprised they haven't done one yet

AnyFucker · 28/06/2020 23:04

@Starksforthewin you are not derailing. It is a mystery what happened to him and so very sad. I don't think he ever recovered from the death of the love of his life, Anselmo, followed shortly by the loss of his mum.

Listening to his best album, Older, tells the story I think.

Starksforthewin · 29/06/2020 01:37

I think you are absolutely spot on, AnyFucker

His love for Anselmo was so, so beautiful. Overwhelming really. I don’t think anyone else ever came close, not even Kenny.
I also think the loss of his mother was pivotal in his life. Grief caused him to seek solace in lots of ways that were ultimately bad for him.

I love that his goodness and generosity was made public after his death. He helped so many people by sharing his good fortune.

EachandEveryone · 29/06/2020 01:45

He was beautiful inside and out. He did two gigs for the nurses and I was lucky enough to be at both. If he was here I wonder how he would’ve coped with the COVID his lungs were shot to pieces after his pneumonia. I still can’t believe he’s gone. And yes that awful fella knows exactly what happened. Why was he sat in his car?

And then his poor sister did it ever come out what happened?

EachandEveryone · 29/06/2020 01:46

Club Tropicana because it’s so happy and I loved the video.

Spinning the Wheel from his solo stuff.

FlashesOfRage · 29/06/2020 01:59

He is such a legend, a true icon 💗

I love everything he did but my favourite is;
“I knew you were waiting” With Aretha

It’s a song that has fitted so many different moments in my life. Leaving an abusive relationship and feeling hopeless/hopeful. Getting married to the love of my life. Fighting infertility and wondering if I would ever be a mother. Carrying my twins now and thinking they were waiting for the perfect moment x

1forAll74 · 29/06/2020 02:25

I love all George Michael songs, but found a You tube video of him singing "The first time ever I saw your face " It was so beautiful to listen to with his mesmerising voice.

EachandEveryone · 29/06/2020 10:09

His voice can never be beaten

xLoveMEorNOTx · 06/02/2021 12:07
