I abandoned the briefings early on but I was shocked to see him tonight. He looks ill and the strange manic grin makes it worse.

Gove is a successful Tory minister. Ie, an utter cunt.

seenbeensbean · 23/06/2020 19:55

That's his problem and not mine, if he's ill then I will be as concerned for him as he is for me. My only issue is that he is fit for office and he's never been that as far as I am concerned.

SwedishEdith · 23/06/2020 19:55

I just think people forget what he looks like as he only rocks up every once in a blue moon.

I think that's true. He always looks unhealthy but now it's combining with his age catching up with him.

FuckThisWind · 23/06/2020 19:56

Boris and Trump both look manic. Time to do the kind thing and release them back into the wild. (And let the grown ups take over)

eddiemairswife · 23/06/2020 19:56

Kenneth Clarke or Michael Heseltine would do a better job. British politicians seem to mature with age which ever party they have belonged to (apart from Thatcher, who I am watching at the moment--BBC2}.

feelingverylazytoday · 23/06/2020 20:01

I thought he might have had a minor stroke a few weeks ago. Anythings possible with coronavirus.

He looks like an exhausted person on coke.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 23/06/2020 20:08

@Witchend

He's had the virus, reasonably badly. It causes what is suspected to be permanent damage to the lungs. I'd be surprised if he was back to full health. He's got a young baby at home to wake him at night. Both of those are enough to wipe anyone out and make them look ill.

But on top of that, he's totally out of his depth. He thought he would have an easy run, see Brexit through and be hailed as a hero by people that wanted it.
Instead he's been plunged into one of the greatest world crises for years and he hasn't got anywhere sorting out Brexit.
That wild eyed "oh heck" look is similar to his look the night he realised Brexit had won. He knows he's out of his depth.

According to my family he is wonderful. He "did what he promised and sorted Brexit" and is "doing a brilliant job of sorting covid"

When I mention his "roadmap" and how much he's deviated from it (ie things that should open at level 2 being opened even though we arent there) I get told in a very sarcastic voice "errrr... we are working towards level 2 so things can open" or "things change. Hope you never change your mind in future"
Because the nation depends on me deciding if I want Chinese or Indian for dinner ffs Confused

'just think people forget what he looks like as he only rocks up every once in a blue moon.'

'Rocks up every once in a blue moon'?! He was speaking in The Commons for ages this afternoon and he does actually have a job to do rather than just answer the MSM's repetitive questions at the press conference. I'm glad he wasn't there every single day, it was interesting to have other ministers speaking.

The baby will have nothing to do with his tiredness, they will have a Nanny for the night and day, which is perfectly normal for people in his social circle.
His ITU stay was brief and he will have had a private room for obvious reasons, whilst in reality being a HDU patient at max and if he had been an ordinary person he would have been on a ward, probably sharing a room with 5 other Covid patients. Unless he was unconscious and intubated in which case his recovery was truly remarkable ? I wonder if he has volunteered to donate plasma ?

Tavannach · 23/06/2020 20:22

He always looks like cottage cheese.

And if any of you honestly believe he's up with a baby, I've got a fucking bridge to sell you.

Grin Brilliant!!

MarshaBradyo · 23/06/2020 20:23

He’s probably doing that PM faster ageing thing.

Caoilainn · 23/06/2020 20:33

@iklboo

He looks like he's swimming in a river of shit with lead boots on. Nod, smile, gesture. The plebs will lap it up.
That's what I thought as well, thanks for putting it more succinctly than me! Smile
Whippetter · 23/06/2020 20:35

I don't mind BJ or Boris Johnson, but 'Mr Johnson'... no. Makes him sound like the one teacher you have a secret crush on. Using a title makes someone look weak imo because they feel they need it for authority, I laugh when teachers use it when responding to adults. The HT doesn't use it - he doesn't need to! So I'll go with the fake sarky respect and stick to Mr Johnson.

Caoilainn · 23/06/2020 20:36

@SchadenfreudePersonified

I think he's a functioning alcoholic. And that he's managed to bluff, bully and banter his way to the top post in his party. And now he finds it's not all sipping champagne and shagging secretaries. And that he hasn't got a clue what to do. And that there are people in his own party just waiting for the optimum time to slip a sharpened blade between his shoulder blades. And he's trying to keep it together long enough to maximise his personal pay out.

And it's all getting a bit much . . .

I think the first half of your post is possibly the most likely. Just hope the second half comes about. We need someone who is a leader and who takes responsibility at the moment. Not someone who it feels bet someone that he could be PM and is raking the cash while phoning it in

Smart lad you have their SOH

itsgettingweird · 23/06/2020 20:46

Or there! Phone keeps autocorrect to the wrong grammar Angry

itsgettingweird · 23/06/2020 20:50

As someone who works in education it actually kills me to be nice to him - but agree with all above that Give would actually have been a better PM.

slartibarti · 23/06/2020 20:57

He's fine, don't worry, I'm sure he'd appreciate your concerns though Grin.
Middle aged people often look haggard when losing weight as it goes from the face first. He plays tennis and runs so seems to be doing well. Restaurants being closed probably helped him stick to his diet.

user69 · 23/06/2020 21:01

He still looks like the same utter twat he always was. They only allow him out when there's some 'good news' for him to appease the masses with.

Whippetter · 23/06/2020 21:04

I think he's a functioning alcoholic I thought he was non functioning actually...functionally alcoholics keep doing a good job despite their addiction.

Thanks for your input Carrie, I'm sure he appreciates your support.
