I abandoned the briefings early on but I was shocked to see him tonight. He looks ill and the strange manic grin makes it worse.

Yellowhammers Dominic Cummings was not I'll when he set off to his family home for childcare. No rules broken.

Oh my mistake, I forgot the slogan was ‘Stay at your 2nd home 260 miles away & don’t forget to bring the disease with you.* What an absolute load of codswallop. Cummings is the most infamous Covidiot in the country.

randomer · 25/06/2020 22:28

set off to his family home for childcare

'personally have missed two funerals of elderly ladies that I knew for more than 40 years. I have not seen my family since the end of March, but unelected Cummings, supposedly ill, could drive the length of the country and see his'

How many times do you need it explaining?! He didn't attend any funerals either, be didn't have a party, he didn't dance to Abba, he didn't go up the weekend after despite The Guardian saying he did.

He went to be near family in case he needed childcare for his ds if he and his wife were both ill. Exceptional circumstances whether you like it or not, no rules were broken.

yellowhammers · 25/06/2020 22:51

Peregrina you are twisting my words by writing that I said I voted for Dominic Cummings. I haven't said how I voted and I certainly didn't vote for him. As you say he is unelected.

You say "your side won". I have not said anything about sides. However, were you to ask me I would have said we all won because the democratic decision was upheld.

I could tell you all about Ferguson but it is not appropriate on a public forum.

randomer · 25/06/2020 22:51

Childcare? If so, how come the whole of th UK were not involved in " childcre"

GetOffYourHighHorse I got the ferry to Ireland to be with my family in case they needed my help. I had the same logic as Cummings. The laws don't apply to me. I have no guilt for what I did.

yellowhammers · 25/06/2020 22:54

Peregrina, Dominic Cummings does not run the country. The elected Government do that. That is what we elected them for. I think they are doing a good job. Others may disagree.
I have no problem with that and I respect those views.
What I will not do is be nasty to other posters because I disagree with their views.

Quite a few members of the Gov seem to dispute that.

GetOffYourHighHorse -How many times do you need it explaining?!

You can excuse ‘explain’ it to me until you are blue in the face. Cummings acted outwith the regulations and to suggest he had ‘exceptional circumstances’ compared to what many families had to endure while following the Government’s ‘instructions’ is insulting.

Yellowhammers- I think I could take a wild guess how you voted. Was it Monster Raving Loony?

StealthPolarBear · 26/06/2020 06:51

Of course he didn't need childcare. His story was a work of fiction from start to finish. Do you also believe he drove to barnard castle to check his eyesight??

Peregrina · 26/06/2020 08:33

To be honest - a vote for Monster Raving Loony could be a better vote. I once saw a list of things that they wanted to be introduced and a surprising number had come to pass.

E.g it started in 1963 as the National Teenage Party and one thing that has been achieved since then is a lowering of the votes to 18 in General Elections, lower than that in Scotland (and maybe Wales?) for local Elections.

Contrast that with Tory Party manifesto pledges 2015 - We will protect the Single Market - Whoops bit the dust.

May's 2017 promises to do something for the 'Just about Managing' - never heard any more about that. Although I will give her her due, she tried to be honest, and no one would fault her commitment to hard work.

Johnson's promises - No customs border in the Irish sea. Another one which bit the dust when he got his Brexit done. Something which May 's Brexit would have avoided

Peregrina · 26/06/2020 08:36

I missed this: Despite its satirical nature, some of the things that have featured in Loony manifestos have become law, such as "passports for pets", abolition of dog licences and all-day pub openings.

Has anybody got to the bottom of the autistic 4 year old who could only be cared for by Granny?

You've gotta love give reluctant credit to a trier.

Yellow appears to be the only member of the great British public who actually believes Cummings' bullshit, but by god even if there's only one of her and 60 odd million of the rest of us, she's going to get equal airtime! Grin

Peregrina · 26/06/2020 09:07

A much more likely scenario is that when Johnson was taken ill, the Cummings family scarpered to Durham because that was a much nicer setting to sit out self-isolation.

No one would blame them, except thousands obeyed both the spirit and letter of the rules, at considerable personal cost, and they find that they have been taken for fools.

Mumratheevergiving · 26/06/2020 09:14

And if you come on a thread bring Cummings up and suggest he deserves a knighthood you would be a fool not to expect what Boris would call ‘a political ding dong’ in response!

GetOffYourHighHorse · 26/06/2020 10:24

'A much more likely scenario is that when Johnson was taken ill, the Cummings family scarpered to Durham because that was a much nicer setting to sit out self-isolation.'

Oh yes hours in the car with small DC and a sick wife to self isolate near family should they need them. What fun!

Peregrina · 26/06/2020 10:59

That would tend to give evidence that his wife wasn't sick. It was Cummings who was supposed to be ill according to the Spectator article.

KaptainKaveman · 26/06/2020 12:13

It was her birthday that very day. Duh.
I'm still awaiting yellowhammer's assessment of what makes Johnson a " good leader".

Peregrina · 26/06/2020 12:35

To be fair we were told that yesterday:

Boris is a great leader because he listened to what the majority of the electorate wants.....Brexit. He renegotiated and delivered. And he will not go for an extension.

ssd · 26/06/2020 12:53

I always wonder at the posters here like yellow who swallow all the lies the tories and leave campaign told. I tend to think they must be either
A. Loaded and not worried about money or their futures
B. So desperate they'll believe a cabinet of millionaires will care about them and their troubles.

Mumratheevergiving · 26/06/2020 13:04

GetOffYourHighHorse - Oh yes hours in the car with small DC and a sick wife to self isolate near family should they need them. What fun!

Yes putting a young child in a car for hours at close proximity with a person exhibiting Covid19 symptoms who should be self isolating. Whichever way you spin it Covidiot Cummings comes out looking a complete turnip and not a very sensible parent. Next time I become ill should I lock my children in the car with me & take a roadtrip to my northern relatives to help out with childcare? It sounds stupid at the best of times! In the midst of a pandemic as an advisor to the Government it was unwise on a personal level and damaging to public adherence to the Government health instruction which was to ‘Stay at Home’.

randomer · 26/06/2020 13:35

OK, Lets go with the sick child and sick wife story. Are they the only peopl ein the whole of the UK who suffered this sorry fate? Whatdid all the other people do I wonder?
If they had done the same, the motorways would have been packed surely?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 26/06/2020 16:42

'Are they the only peopl ein the whole of the UK who suffered this sorry fate?'

I doubt it. I imagine many people put the welfare of their children first. Motorways wouldn't necessarily have been 'packed'. The roads were quiet but never deserted.
