Mr Johnson looks so ill.

I abandoned the briefings early on but I was shocked to see him tonight. He looks ill and the strange manic grin makes it worse.

There are loads of evidence now about post-Covid syndrome, with people relapsing for weeks or months after initial illness. BJ had one of the most severe cases possible that you can still scrape out of alive so not surprised he doesn't look healthy.

What's more worrying is that he's directly responsible for an entire nation in a continuous state of crisis. The stress alone would break a healthy person, let alone someone recently discharged from ICU.

Remember all the fuss made about Hilary Clinton looking dizzy during her campaign or Angela Merkel shaking during an event? Of course whatever they had may not have affected their work performance in which case they're entitled to privacy. Yet there doesn't seem to be more concern about whether BJ is 100% fit to work, both for his own good and the public.

Absolutely my thoughts too. He still appears breathless and lacking bounce. He's lost his self assurance/zest since his ICU stay. Matt Hancock was the same when he first returned to the podium after having had CV19 and he hadn't even been ICU. Its wrung them out! So worrying we don't have a steady hand on the tiller in such a time of need but who in their right mind would want the job.
BreatheAndFocus · 23/06/2020 19:30

I think he’s been on a massive weight-loss drive, probably eating badly and pushing himself to exercise. In a recent photo, that made his face look a bit haggard.

I also think he’s probably finding the job of PM is not quite the walk in the park he was imagining.

areyoubeingserviced · 23/06/2020 19:33

I thought that I was the only one who thought that he looked unwell.
Mr Johnson is not up to the job.

Sparklingbrook · 23/06/2020 19:34

@Chicchicchicchiclana

Mr Johnson? Is this some kind of archaic Jane Austen Mumsnet?

I haven't watched him, I never do. He's probably suffering from post viral something. He was ill enough to spend 3 nights in intensive care recently - no one is going to bounce back from that without showing it. Let alone a middle aged, overweight man with a new baby and arguably the most stressful job in the country.

Apparently we aren't allowed to call Boris Boris.
Serin · 23/06/2020 19:35

He is an utter disgrace and a shambles.
I didn't mind Theresa May, hate the way she was forced out so that he could "sort Brexit".
He couldn't sort socks.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 23/06/2020 19:35

Well at least he isn't dead like the 45,000 other British citizens that were victims of Covid-19.

LellyMcKelly · 23/06/2020 19:35

People compare him to Trump, but he’s much more like Boris Yeltsin, a mean and ruthless charlatan in the skin of a drunken honey monster. The sooner Rishi or even Gove (who is hateful but at least intelligent) the better.

Leflic · 23/06/2020 19:36

He looks like he's swimming in a river of shit with lead boots on. Nod, smile, gesture. The plebs will lap it up.

Plebs?
As opposed to whom. What would your plan be then wise one?

Serin · 23/06/2020 19:38

Gove was awful as education secretary but actually not bad in the environmental office.
Both of them look serious and Rishi has combed his hair.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 23/06/2020 19:39

I don't mind BJ or Boris Johnson, but 'Mr Johnson'... no. Makes him sound like the one teacher you have a secret crush on.

WorstGovtEver · 23/06/2020 19:39

He's been playing tennis and going on runs though, so how are his lungs still damaged?

Maybe the 3 hr naps a day he takes help him through. It is possible he had only just woken up.

Peregrina · 23/06/2020 19:39

I didn't mind Theresa May, hate the way she was forced out so that he could "sort Brexit".

I didn't like May, but I too hate the way she was forced out. She was conscientious and hard working, and I think would have tackled Covid-19 much better.

MarshaBradyo · 23/06/2020 19:40

Johnson is ok but Mr .. makes me feel the same way Mrs May does. Erk

Peregrina · 23/06/2020 19:41

I think Gove was OK too in the short time he was in the Ministry of Justice. Mind you, I think he took over from failing Grayling, so it wasn't a hard act to follow.

Aridane · 23/06/2020 19:42

Yes, he looks distinctly unwell. His bounce has become bluster and waffle

Aridane · 23/06/2020 19:44

@ktp100 - Imsaw that article too

Dispiriting and depressing

plominoagain · 23/06/2020 19:45

I agree . Don’t get me wrong , I utterly despise Theresa May , she’s been responsible for wreaking destruction on my profession , but I sincerely hope that at some point in all this lockdown, she’s had a smirk at the fact that the Great Blusterer has been hoist by his own petard , and that now he has the job he schemed and connived to get , he actually doesn’t like it that much.

slartibarti · 23/06/2020 19:45

He's losing weight, on purpose as he's mentioned this. It often goes from the face first and it starts to droop, lines show up more. I remember when Nigel Lawson went on a diet and lost a lot of weight, he looked really ill
As someone once said, when you're no longer young you have to chose between your face or your figure.

Mumoblue · 23/06/2020 19:46

He always looks like cottage cheese.

And if any of you honestly believe he's up with a baby, I've got a fucking bridge to sell you.

Beatrixpotterspencil · 23/06/2020 19:47

Oh now, I don’t tend to embroil myself in party politics but May was as cold as death. Heartless woman.

Boris on the other hand, something else entirely.
I was putting up with it, like you do when the world goes mad, until I heard about the US trade deal and animal welfare.

I’m now pescatarian, on a steady slope to beans-ville. 😁

SpringFan · 23/06/2020 19:47

The look in his eyes is just sheer panic. He is completely out of his depth.
He got the prize he wanted- being PM- but he can't hack it. Wish he had enough insight to resign. But there is no one vaguely competent to take over. The few brains in the Conservatives were ousted before the election.

Beatrixpotterspencil · 23/06/2020 19:49

@Mumoblue ok utter comment win for you there. If you could give trophies like on reddit I would honour you with three! 🏆 🏆 🏆

Cottage cheese!

WoollyMollyMonkey · 23/06/2020 19:49

He looks bright- eyed (and bushy-haired) enough to me

He looks like he usually does to me (a wanker)

ohthegoats · 23/06/2020 19:52

He's a rubbish PM, he's hating it, it's stressful, he just wants to be liked but knows that he's not (increasingly not). He didn't expect COVID, he wanted a nice 'easy' Brexit win, after which he'll finish his one term and head off to write about it in the Tory press. But it's gone wrong. I can't imagine he really wanted another baby at his age either. Wonder if it was an accident. If not, I wonder if he was persuaded by others that it would be a useful thing. Urgh, either way he's revolting, it's embarrassing that people voted him in to power, and I can't stand hearing his voice.

Wotrewelookinat · 23/06/2020 19:53

@nocoolnamesleft

Anyone else channelling Doctor Who bringing down the PM in 6 words? (Don't you think she looks tired?)
🤣🤣🤣
