Here's a new thread for discussing aircon, aubergines, and Goth music.

They don't see to understand why I would not be happy about track and trace meaning have to stay home for weeks from the gym. (?) and that would put me off going. Confused

ButterMeCrumpets · 25/06/2020 07:55

It's awful now seeing all the companies slashing jobs.

NothingIsWrong · 25/06/2020 07:58

I did not sleep. Just worried. And cried a bit. I just worry that the government will make part time school the norm, and women will be thrown under the bus.

dkl55 · 25/06/2020 08:03

Agreed @world. DH and I desperate to go back to normal and think this is all ridiculous. Can't understand the lack of questioning and blind acceptance and always shocked when I speak to someone else and realise we are alone in our thinking. That's why I love this thread! @nothing - please don't think that, we have to try to stay positive (easier said than done). There's been a massive backlash from parents - I think this is the main (only?) thing people are questioning. They will fight for the children to go back. I agree though it's women being thrown under the bus. So many of my friends are struggling.

Mascotte · 25/06/2020 08:05

@NothingIsWrong please try not to worry, I do believe schools will be back full time as there is so much pressure for this. It does seem to be the one thing people will stand up for!

Nihiloxica · 25/06/2020 08:11

It does.

But the Dementors are bored of BLM now and have refocused on making sure life is never restored for most people.

Dementing has become a badge of tribal allegiance. It's the right thing to think and everyone who wants to live no defined by Covid is stupid/irrational/evil.

It's not about a virus any more.

Nothingiswrong we've got to keep reminding people that full time school is the only acceptable option, if the economy is to recover.

Parents do have power. I joined the usforthem group in Scotland and signed the petition. Within a matter of days they had to make a statement completely reversing their blended learning as the only option decision. I never thought my voice would make a difference, but joined with a lot of others and savvy media people in the group - it did.

There's still a difference between words and actions, but it's now firmly on the agenda.

On a funny note, a few weeks ago I joined an End the Lockdown group on FB. I've not posted much in the end because it's a bit full of 5G, Bill Gates people but I keep it as an interesting counterbalance. They are now going through a bit of an existential crisis as of course the Lockdown is ending or bits of it anyway and wondering if they should rename as "End the annoying bits of the changes that we don't like" or something similar.

NothingIsWrong · 25/06/2020 08:12

I'm now overeating as well as a compensation for worrying. And drinking too much.

A friend wants me to see my GP. Probably not the worst idea in the world.

I used to be able to pull myself up, but every day now people are screeching about how covid deaths mean EVERYTHING and nothing will be safe until zero deaths. I mean, humans are fucking mortal beings, everyone dies of something. My Dad got a urine infection and 6 weeks later he was dead from sepsis. Literally thousands of people die in this country every day, from a hundred different reasons.

Teateaandmoretea · 25/06/2020 08:13

There needs to be an island compound set up for people predicting a second wave.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 25/06/2020 08:13

Serious qn. Why are mainstream people not more angry about schools, lockdown etc? Why are they happy for schools to remain closed? Do most have a sahp? Or not realise the job losses that are coming?

Teateaandmoretea · 25/06/2020 08:14

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully I think that a lot of people are very short termist in their thinking. If they have enough money for the next week life is good.

Orangeblossom78 · 25/06/2020 08:17

Argh why did I engage. Now being guilted about the gyms thing. Why do some feel the need to make others feel bad about everything.

Orangeblossom78 · 25/06/2020 08:19

I just asked do people think we would need to self isolate if there was a case at the gym or sports centre. Now being told of for not complying with track and trace Hmm

No I meant what are the details as that might put me off re-joining. FFS. Can't ask that can we

Nihiloxica · 25/06/2020 08:23

Why are mainstream people not more angry about schools, lockdown etc? Why are they happy for schools to remain closed?

I think it was @torydeathdrug that pointed out previously how many people are enjoying LARPing disaster movie scenarios.

They are really, REALLY into this. No sacrifice is too great (by other people Hmm) to allow them to feel virtuous by never leaving their home and wearing a mask and making plans for the New Normal they are so excited about.

Reason can't reach them, because their fervour is about belonging and performing virtue. Any figures that indicate the virus are in retreat are lies. But figures that show it out of control are 100% true, except even truer than we know.

I think it’s a question to ask the gym orange rather than the increasing number of idiots on mumsnet. I’ve lost interest it’s just constant arguing with stupid.

rookiemere · 25/06/2020 08:26

Up until a few weeks ago I would have done track and trace for the sake of the wider good. But firstly I think we've had it and secondly nobody else is looking out for my good or that of my families, so I need to fo it myself.

Reality is if I was told to self isolate I'd mostly do it, but would exercise when nobody else around. But we now have some summer plans that might actually happen and I don't quite know how I'd react if they had to be cancelled.

Littlebelina · 25/06/2020 08:26

Nothingiswrong, really sorry to hear about your Dad. It reminded me of something I saw on the news a few weeks ago. A young ish woman (mid 30s at most from what I can remember) was talking about how she had suspected sepsis but didn't want to go into hospital because she might catch covid. It summed up the way the risk of covid for most people has been blown out of all proportion, she had a much much higher chance of the sepsis killing her but it was the covid that scared her. I know of someone else in rl who made a decision not to go into hospital for a medical issue in case of covid, their choice was perhaps less risky but I still wasn't convinced by it.

Schools will be back full time, I'm reasonably hopeful for September but they certainly won't be part time forever. The tide has already turned on it and we have a Tory government who won't want to be seen to be beholden to the unions or damaging the economy. Plus I think everyone accepts it's better for the children.

Orangeblossom78 · 25/06/2020 08:27

Yes that might be best! Smile

DominaShantotto · 25/06/2020 08:30

Fuck. Ambulance came yesterday for the guy next door we don’t get on with, came back this morning and took him away.
I’m now shitting myself it was Covid because the whole of his clique in the street are in and out of each other’s houses constantly and fearing they’re going to try to lock us down in the crossfire.

I’m sure I’m just catasrophising but still so scared of being locked down again

Nihiloxica · 25/06/2020 08:30

nobody else is looking out for my good or that of my families, so I need to fo it myself.

Yup. That's where I am.

I used to be very civic-minded before this, but all it has got me is my children being denied an education, so I am done.

OP posts:
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 25/06/2020 08:39

We have been very lucky in Scotland to have jack mcconnell in our side (former FM, labour peer, education minister) - he seems to genuinely be interested in our children.

I have wondered about a visit to the GP. Actually got AD’s in feb when my mum died, I had to call the police on my ex and this came rampaging across the globe at the same time. I stopped taking them - decided no wonder I was feeling miserable, it was a shit show -
Not a shit insanemembrane show.

I think a lot of people are living their best life. My mind goes ten to the dozen on the best of days so I’m never going to be content with polishing the kitchen cabinets and crafts. Fuck that.

I am also getting irrational rage and envy at those boasting of all their exercise when presumably someone else watches the kids whilst they go running.

Mine hammer on the bathroom door when I have a shower - or pick the lock on the door if I’m having a bath.

TheGreatWave · 25/06/2020 08:40

being closed again come October due to a second wave.

I think I would pay a little bit more attention to 'my friend in the NHS' if they could all at least decide on the same time frame.

(Not aimed at you, I mean those that believe it)

ISaySteadyOn · 25/06/2020 08:42

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully, I am a SAHM and really want schools to go back properly full time without the nonsense where my 6 yo was afraid to give his best friend a hug because he would get in so much trouble if he did. Also, I would willingly look after anyone's DC if/when you needed it. I wish I could do that for you @NothingIsWrong.

I am civic minded about the people on this thread. Smile

Spudlet · 25/06/2020 08:47

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully I’m a SAHM too and I want the schools back! I want DS to get all the specialisation and support that I can’t give him. And also, I’d like to go back to work at some point but I can’t start job hunting until I have some idea of what on earth is going on with schools and childcare.

torydeathdrug · 25/06/2020 08:48

“nobody else is looking out for my good or that of my families, so I need to for it myself.”

Yup absolutely that.
