Here's a new thread for discussing aircon, aubergines, and Goth music.

We bought a Nespresso during lockdown and it's fab.

Jourdain11 · 24/06/2020 14:55

@Cattermole I'm doing okay thanks, but it is HOT HOT HOT here in West London. We're all melting! On the plus side, I'm almost glad that I lost my hair through chemo- a naked head is so much cooler! I had to cut the DC's hair yesterday, but no disasters. DH let me trim the bottom of his a bit, but nothing more, so he still has flowing raven locks 😄

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 24/06/2020 14:55

Phew. I'm so lucky to have this thread. My fb friends are mainly dementors and I have a handful to confide in. Feeling so low. Just had a schoop from our head teacher - 8 x yr6 boys were seen not socially distancing in a front garden. He is now going to speak to the governors about not allowing them back to school in so many words.

So someone has grassed them up. And a deputy head friend of mine said he is totally going too far. He cannot exclude a child for something hthat happened outside school. And yet I thought he was so reasonable.

What kind of teacher would exclude children from school for this?

Has he entirely taken leave of his senses?

Some people seem to be far too excited about imposing new rules.

Luckily I'm a parent governor. We have a zoom call tomorrow. See me fuckin roar

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 24/06/2020 15:06

@HesterShaw1

I never queue, in normal times I do a 180 at the door if ANY shop is busy inside. We’re not in vladistok now comrades!

My boyf barks that out on seeing a supermarket queue. "I vill not queue for food" (German)

And that is my new stock phrase!
ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 24/06/2020 15:13

Good luck, MrsArch; that's outrageous! But also just the sort of thing our Head would do these days.

SummerHouse · 24/06/2020 15:18

Unless the world has gone totally fecking crazy he will never get sign off for this..... Oh, wait...

Littlebelina · 24/06/2020 15:18

The queuing thing does annoy me. With both kids back in education/childcare my fridays are almost normal apart from the absence of groups for dd and having to do some work whilst she naps still as still missing work hours due to running back and forth for school pick due to no wrap around. I was thinking this friday to take her to localish shops to pick up some bits and thought oooh I can go to lidl for bread and random middle of lidl crap. Except it won't be just popping to lidl will it? It'll be a 20 min queue with trying to social distance in a tiny aisle and I'm not sure I can be arsed.

SummerHouse · 24/06/2020 15:20

Go MrsArchchancellorRidcully

Pretty sure you will have the might of the AD army behind you. Are we more lions or tigers? Or bears (oh my!)

Mrsfrumble · 24/06/2020 15:21

Woah, that’s awful MrsArch! How can the school expect to control what pupils and their families do in their own time? I’d planned to meet up with a fellow school mum who’s a keyworker so our children could play in the woods next week. It hadn’t occurred to me that school could or would object.

Jourdain11 · 24/06/2020 15:31

It's super ridiculous. What about all the others who they didn't happen to see, for starters?

At my strictish French convent school, there were various things we couldn't do on the way to/from school, but not outside altogether! I still remember my form mistress driving past me kissing a boy on the pavement and sticking her head out of the window to shout, "Jourdain, put down that boy!"

Cattermole · 24/06/2020 15:36

Presumably if they're all Y6s they're bubbled together anyway so what's the problem??

Nihiloxica · 24/06/2020 15:39

Grin

Ah the joys of a strict convent education. Smile

Good luck, MrsArch, roar like a lion/tiger/bear/sealion with the combined support of the ADs behind you.

Nice to see you, Jourdain, hope you are feeling better.

That is shocking from a head teacher. I’ve already mentioned that there is an understanding at my daughters school that social distancing rules must be followed ‘when the teacher is looking’ 😄

AnxiousElephant77 · 24/06/2020 15:47

I've got a hair appointment!! Oh it's a good day!

AnxiousElephant77 · 24/06/2020 15:47

Obviously I'm in complete denial about the schools.

PickAChew · 24/06/2020 15:48

The one time I had to queue for ages was right at the start, just before Easter weekend. That was a bladder bursting hour but nowhere else was any quicker and the fridge was bare and the boys never did catch onto lentil dust soup.

We're usually in within 5 minutes, now.

Nihiloxica · 24/06/2020 15:52

the boys never did catch onto lentil dust soup

If they were my children, I would not have put up with that and they would love lentil dust soup with extra dust now.

Gene genie
I’ve had a reply from my anma therapist
When he comes end of first week in July I’ll get all the info but looks positive

Probably going to cost gr-anma a pretty penny

The answer to your question is Yes we do work with temperomandibular joint issues, tooth misalignment and jaw issues as well as bite issues.

Orangeblossom78 · 24/06/2020 16:21

It is very hot here too, wishing it would cool down a bit. Does anyone else notice how Nicola does this thing where she allows more people to meet, first it was 8 outside instead of 6, now it is two household inside instead of one. But she says she is being more cautious. I don't find her very consistent, and she seems to be reactionary as well. (and quite irritating) But then Boris is also irritating too. Feeling quite hormonal today.

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 24/06/2020 16:25

When I was at school (admittedly sixth form but still under 18) some of the teachers went to the pub with us at lunch.

@Jourdain11 I am so thoughtless, I hope my comments about hair weren't tactless or insensitive. I lost my hair through alopecia areata (can never spell it) as part of something else and tend to make light of it these days but I should have thought more about others before I posted. I used to keep pens poked into my hair at work Blush and I still reach up occasionally for one forgetting they're not there.

Nihiloxica · 24/06/2020 16:26

It's hot here and overcast.

Meant to be thunderstorms over the next couple of days. Feels early in summer for storms.

Orangeblossom Nicola is totally random. Shame they went to the bother of the roadmap.
Ultra cautious until it looks like a vote loser then swift change of tactics. But still a few days behind England just to emphasise how different we are. Well she can away and wheesht (or whatever it is Scottish people do) if she thinks I'm staycationing in Scotland.

KaronAVyrus · 24/06/2020 16:47

Good news for me today. I’m being taken off furlough next month. 🍾🍾🍾
