Wtf is this on dp’s leg?! <Gross picture warning>

Dp had an ingrown hair 3 weeks ago that has suddenly decided to go bananas. I’ve forced him to call his GP and waiting a call back, but wondering if any MNers could shed some light in the meantime!

OP posts:
FelicisNox · 20/06/2020 18:52

It looks like an ingrown infected hair follicle.

It looks very Cellulitic: I would draw a line around it with a marker pen then you can see if it spreads.

That's needs immediate attention and I dare say antibiotics. Make sure he doesn't squeeze it.

Puds11 · 20/06/2020 18:53

Fark! That’s a hole!

Disappointed that we aren't at least getting an hourly update picture Grin

GimmeAy · 20/06/2020 19:01

@Portybella I think that a 1 cm crater is not an ingrown hair. Read the OP'S posts/look at the gross pics.

User1937 · 20/06/2020 19:05

This is why MN needs to have an edit button.
Then the OP could put an update in her OP to stop the hundreds of posters who can’t be bothered to read the thread, or even her posts, and yet feel the need to tell her he needs antibiotics
Especially the nurses who don’t bother having all the information before decreeing What Must Happen.

Apossibility84 · 20/06/2020 19:12

@User1937

It’s Chat on Mumsnet.
Not exactly the British Medical Association. People click on it, give their opinion, move on. No big deal.

GraceChurch · 20/06/2020 19:13

So what the hell was it then? I read the green op posts it doesnt say what it actually was?

GraceChurch · 20/06/2020 19:14

MumsnetDoctor 😂

OhTheRoses · 20/06/2020 19:34

user1937 ime nurses usually decree what should be done without having reviewed or absorbed all the information. It's why I have as little truck with them as possible.

ListeningQuietly · 20/06/2020 19:44

GraceChurch
Its an ingrown hair abcess
quite a common thing in men

DancyNancy · 20/06/2020 19:54

The Eye of Sauron is upon us!!!

Jesus, poor fella

wibblywobblywoo · 20/06/2020 20:08

It definitely looks like a Pore of Winer to me.

As has been said complete the course of AB's but this is not a blackhead you should try and extract yourself, DH will need to see a dermatologist to get that dealt with properly - won't be a long process at all but needs to be done right.

Dr Pimple Popper on Youtube has done loads of them........

Janleverton · 20/06/2020 20:53

I’d be tempted to pack that to try and get it to heal gradually from below rather than heal over with a crypt. Ds had hideous hole in his neck and had flucloxicillin but was also dressed/packed and we were sent away from minor injuries with all the kit for packing it as it gradually healed. Some sort of wadding that turned to gel when wet, Manuka honey and dressings.

Middersweekly · 20/06/2020 21:07

It does look like a tick bite with maybe part of the tick (teeth/ head) left behind. Bullseye rash around it. If he starts to feel unwell he may need a trip to A&E. Hopefully the flucloxicillin works!

LtJudyHopps · 20/06/2020 21:18

LassoOfTruth can I ask what your spider bite was like? I had a horrific bite on my leg last month, but I don’t know what bit me! If you google spider bites it looked like a false widow bite... it was like a HUGE blister filled with liquid sticking out of my leg. I ended up on flucloxacillin as well which did eventually clear it up. Have a mark on my leg don’t know if it’s a scar or where the rest is tanned and that bit isn’t Sad

happydivorcee · 20/06/2020 21:44

My ex DH had a similar looking thing on his leg. GP said spider bite... 5 months later it still hadn’t healed and it was so much worse. It wouldn’t heal and it went down to the bone. He was eventually diagnosed with Pyoderma gangrenosum and had to take such a massive amount of steroids he got diabetes for a while. It was a nightmare!

RUOKHon · 20/06/2020 21:46

Every time I see this thread appear in active I have to check it to see whether it’s finally exploded in a pus-filled hair ball!

Disappointed.

Portybella · 20/06/2020 22:18

Oh dearie me ListeningQuietly 😂😂😂 You're not even the original poster! 😂😂😂😂

RaggieDolls · 20/06/2020 22:18

Agree with those who say spider bite. DH had a very similar wound when he was bitten in the US. He was given antibiotics and a steroid cream and it improved quickly.

Goodnightelizabethwalton · 20/06/2020 22:20

I would be going to urgent care centre asap! Could turn to sepsis!

SionnachGlic · 20/06/2020 22:49

The salt & warm/hot water rinse shd help. The second pic looked worse to me, looked like it was raised/swollen around the hole altho maybe that was just OP's photographic angle?! 😂 Keep a very close eye on him for any sign of temperature or fever & hopefully it improves.

He is prob lucky if the ingrown hair is gone, my friend had one in his back & needed surgery to have it removed, it was quite serious & he had a large enough wound wound that needed packing & dressing changes for weeks.

leighb23 · 20/06/2020 23:38

@screwthedoldrums

I wish I was married to your husband right now op. I'm a pimple popper weirdo Grin
Yeah me too! Grin
leighb23 · 20/06/2020 23:42

@Bluetrews25

Can you still get those little sucker thingies for hoovering snot out of babies' noses? Have you got one, OP? Just askin'
Yes you can, they're called nasal aspirators and I still use one on my 9 year old when he's got a snotty Oliver Grin
