Dp had an ingrown hair 3 weeks ago that has suddenly decided to go bananas. I’ve forced him to call his GP and waiting a call back, but wondering if any MNers could shed some light in the meantime!

@madcatladyforever Grin oh the relief after over 12 hours and nearly 230 posts...you finally came to the thread!

Nobody, but nobody has known what the heck to do!! Our saviour is here whoop whoop!

Saturday morning update. Still a hole, but much less angry looking, and no hunk. Nice and clean and hopefully it’ll close up soon. I had visions of waking up in a mass of botfly this morning which thankfully didn’t materialise!

That is just so hideously fascinating.

Woah ! Much improvement there !

waves at madcatlady fellow NHS Pod here

Make sure though that (unless he has unbearable side-effects in which case he'd see the GP again) that he completes the course of antibiotics .

People often get lax when something looks a bit better and that way lies antibiotic inefficiency and potential for resistance .

The redness has improved but it still looks like there's a lump there .
Keep salt water sluicing , keep off YouTube Grin

Ah you're not of the woods yet , Google search doth tell up to 12 weeks incubation period for botfly !

TeddyIsaHe · 20/06/2020 10:02

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I’m going to pretend I didn’t read that Grin

completes the course of antibiotics

Seconded and thirded and more even - best advice on here today!!

LockdownBlues · 20/06/2020 11:15

There is no way I could resist giving it a gentle squeeze.

Glad it's looking a lot less angry though, less scary now

Justaboy · 20/06/2020 11:18

Actually my now ex pricked her finger with a thorny bush and that ended up in hospital for a small operation and several courdses of drugs all over a small hole inthe skin and not as grim looking as this one!! and OP we want a streaming Youtube feed for the next few critical days! got that? ;)..

DirtyTicket · 20/06/2020 11:25

The unfortunate placement of these two responses have been the best part of the thread for me!

LadyEloise · 20/06/2020 12:26

Antibiotics were prescribed- did he go to the GP ?
I'm not living in the UK so I don't know if they can be prescribed with a video consultation.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 20/06/2020 17:08

The OP's posts will answer your question @LadyEloise

Attitude84 · 20/06/2020 17:33

I’d take that to the doctor. It looks like something has bitten your husband and moved digs in his leg. Sorry for the misery info!! Hope it heals/sorts soon!!

MyNameIsJane · 20/06/2020 17:42

I hope it’s better soon!

DagenhamRoundhouse · 20/06/2020 17:57

He'll need some days of Flucloxacillin

DagenhamRoundhouse · 20/06/2020 18:00

I had something similar on my wrist about two months ago. It was red and swollen and angry and developed a yellow head so I called it Donald. He responded to antibiotics. Two goes of Flucloxacillin.

Samtsirch · 20/06/2020 18:11

Poor Donald😔😆

Have you searched your bedsheets, OP? It might be crawling around in there. 😁
ListeningQuietly · 20/06/2020 18:17

@TeddyIsaHe
That is looking a lot better.
Keep with the salty water and led the drugs do their job.
It will take longer to heal than you realise but if he's happy doing the saline himself several times a day there should be a nice neat scar he can tell tall tales about in years to come Grin

I keep giggling at this Grin
CambsAlways · 20/06/2020 18:29

What did the dr say it was, looks really nasty hope it soon clears up

Portybella · 20/06/2020 18:43

It's an ingrown hair cyst - go to your GP and get antibiotics. Please do not squeeze or poke, as that will cause infection / scarring. Don't try to pull the hair out either as it is imbedded too deeply under the cyst. Your practice nurse will be able to show you how it should be cleaned.

The Opening post clearly says what it is

It amazes me that people do not read a thread before adding to it

Galwaygirl · 20/06/2020 18:47

Haven't read replies, cellulitis ++, needs possible topical and oral antibiotics definitely

cheesemongery · 20/06/2020 18:49

Looks like a spider bite I had - although my swelling was much worse. I still have a hole in my leg, took months to heal properly. I had to have antibiotics (and anti emetics to keep those down!)
