Dp had an ingrown hair 3 weeks ago that has suddenly decided to go bananas. I’ve forced him to call his GP and waiting a call back, but wondering if any MNers could shed some light in the meantime!

My friend also had a botfly in her scalp - don’t think you can get them in the uk thigh, she’d picked it up on holiday in Costa Rica. It was only noticed when she was saying to her friend how sore this spot on her head was and her friend saw something MOVE inside it!!!

I hate this thread but also want to know what it is. 😂

endofthelinefinally · 19/06/2020 12:06

That is already infected and needs ABx.
The only point in drawing round it would be to see how fast it is spreading.
Do not touch it! I know most people have already said that, but squeezing it will force the bacteria deeper into the tissues.

I wish I'd never clicked on this but also now so morbidly curious

AudacityOfHope · 19/06/2020 12:09

@OhMsBeliever same here

cosmo30 · 19/06/2020 12:10

I'd be getting that seen to straight away. As a pp said look out for signs of sepsis, that needs antibiotics as soon as

Nousernameforme · 19/06/2020 12:10

Can you not bypass the receptionist and put an online query in with photo attached already on askmygp? I just say as without a photo they may not realise how bad it is.
He needs to be seen and get treatment soon this isn't one of those leave it alone and it will be fine situations.

TeddyIsaHe · 19/06/2020 12:11

He’s just sent a picture over to the GP, so should have an update on whatever the hell it is soon!

LTB

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 19/06/2020 12:14

That might need 48 hours of IV Antibiotics! 😱

HelmutShmacker · 19/06/2020 12:14

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

NoMoreDickheads · 19/06/2020 12:15

It looks like he's picked at it and that's why the hole's so 'neat'/clear cut maybe.

It's definitely gone a bit manky. The GP will probably give him antibiotics or an antibiotic cream.

Samtsirch · 19/06/2020 12:16

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria
😆

LassoOfTruth · 19/06/2020 12:16

I second a spider bite, that's become infected. I had one a few years ago on my ankle and the scar is still there. It wasn't painful, just disgusting! Def get the GP to look and keep an eye on his temp.

ComDummings · 19/06/2020 12:16

Ooh hope he gets that seen to soon, looks very infected

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 19/06/2020 12:17

Unless he's been overseas, it's unlikely to be botfly (fun as they are ;-) as there are none in UK - central and south America only iirc. It does look uncomfy though

Squaffle · 19/06/2020 12:20

Shamelessly placemarking!

Pickles89 · 19/06/2020 12:21

Poor chap. I don't understand why it's not sore!? Please don't wait OP as these things can be very serious very quickly.

Jent13c · 19/06/2020 12:22

I'd be packing a bag. I'd be very surprised if hes not admitted for IV antibiotics tonight.

C152H · 19/06/2020 12:22

Dear god, that looks too bad to be an infected hair follicle! Could it have been a tick bite?

SimonJT · 19/06/2020 12:22

Man if that way my leg I would be picking and squeezing away!

Sasaz · 19/06/2020 12:23

I need to know what this is

TeddyIsaHe · 19/06/2020 12:23

It’s probably horrendously painful but he’s very blasé about this kind of stuff, so will be downplaying it.

Temp is completely normal, now waiting on call back from dr.

Laiste · 19/06/2020 12:24

Oooh shit.

I don't think you need to be drawing a line round it to see it's 'angry', as my mum used to say.

That looks livid!

FortunesFave · 19/06/2020 12:24

It doesn't look like a spider bit to me. They have two holes or marks.

It looks like a badly infected hair follicle which given the ingrown hair the poor man has had, makes sense.
