In fact I love you my fellow Anti dementors. Where on Mumsnet can we seamlessly discuss roundabouts/speakeasys/theatre/aubergines and other shit. You are my refuge from the real life dystopia we seem to be in!

dkl55 · 18/06/2020 21:24

It's supposed to be 5miles I think. But some exceptions. I also don't think everyone's rigidly sticking to it...

BakewellTarts · 18/06/2020 21:25

I may have had a G&T or two and feeling a bit emotional!

Nihiloxica · 18/06/2020 21:25

@BakewellTarts

I love Baba Ghanoush just haven't quite perfected it at home. Do you have a good recipe?
No, I've never attempted it.

It's the same reason I don't do the lottery. My optimism raises my hopes to certainties.

I would just be so gutted if it was horrible because I would be so excited about how delicious it was going to be.

(Yes, in non-Covid times I am an optimist. Albeit a grumpy and cynical one.)

BarkandCheese · 18/06/2020 21:27

I miss my favourite Turkish restaurant, they do epic things with aubergines 🍆. They’re not even doing takeaway right now Sad .

Orangeblossom78 · 18/06/2020 21:27

Why are they so harsh on mothers struggling with home schooling? Just seen another post, and one of them is telling them there should be fines and it is our duty to do all the work etc Hmm a little boy think he is about 9. FFS.

Nihiloxica · 18/06/2020 21:27

Awww I love you all too ❤

I'm off booze for a bit to rest my liver. But I'm still all emotional. 😭

I think some of them are sadists.
BakewellTarts · 18/06/2020 21:29

I am an incurable optimist. Mostly I think this is a good thing, but at the moment even I am struggling to see the silver linings.

There is a lovely restaurant near us that does delish Baba Ghanoush. I am missing it! I am a reasonable cook (if I say so myself) but I miss going out and someone else cooking and clearing up.

rookiemere · 18/06/2020 21:32

Barkandcheese we got turkish takeaway from a favourite restaurant of mine . The baba ganoush was awesome but the rest of it didn't travel well and I can't replicate the recipe at home.

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/06/2020 21:33

One of the main things I miss about living in big cities were the range of takeaways. We used to get an amazing Lebanese takeaway in Bristol.
Now we’re in the sticks it’s Chinese, Indian, fish and chips or pizza.

This gives me the rage. Its OK to find this blooming hard! AND IT IS NOT OUR DUTY TO PICK UP ALL THE SHIT.
PickAChew · 18/06/2020 21:33

DM has been doing telephone food ordering with Morrisons and was bemused when she got a tin of Ovaltine, but then remembered she had ordered an aubergine and they must have misheard.

They made a right horlicks of that :o @rookiemere

Because they’re cunts. Excuse my language. I read the thread and know the poster you mean. She is frequently telling people that they chose to have kids so it’s their duty to raise them. What happened to ‘it takes a village’ and all that jazz?
SomewhereEast · 18/06/2020 21:35

Re the track & trace app, I'd be intrigued to know how well its working in comparable countries such as Germany & France. Surely any non-authoritarian society will always have a percentage of people who just won't engage with something like that, for all sorts of reasons?

PickAChew · 18/06/2020 21:38

@BakewellTarts DH hates the skins but tolerates them pretty well if I cook them like a jacket potato, first. It brings out the flavour, too, so win win.

I just read rather a depressing article in the Times which said it was a reason for keeping restrictions strict. I nearly threw the phone across the room.

I don’t think there is a silver lining, other than maybe it’s been slightly beneficial to the environment. However there’s always hope, things will get better, this isn’t forever.

SomewhereEast · 18/06/2020 21:43

Also I bet the posters who are being horrible to anyone struggling with homeschooling are the exact same ones who were always horrible to anyone struggling with breastfeeding or babies who woke fifteen times a night or whatever. There's always been a minority on here like that.

justasking111 · 18/06/2020 21:44

Track and trace will not be used by all but by enough so that it works reasonably well. You will never get 100% assent for anything.

DIL crosses welsh border for work reasons. Decided to shop while she was in England. Shops had lots of bare shelves, I suspect stock will be a problem for a while with production overseas being halted. She got a right dressing down from someone for doing this and bringing this lurgy back into Wales.

justasking111 · 18/06/2020 21:45

Well assuming Drakeford follows NS once again shops will open here but I suspect he will keep up the five mile travel, which will be tough for a lot of stores, if he bans malls that is a lot of big shops in our area stuffed too.

I hate this subgroup.

HesterShaw1 · 18/06/2020 21:47

I know I'm probably being an awful dullard, but what's the connection with mear packing factories?

justasking111 · 18/06/2020 21:47

I had grandkids yesterday and today. By the time they were collected today I was truly on my last nerve. OH cooked dinner when he realised I was ready to snap. I do not know how all the mums have managed for the last 87 days.

That is a good compromise Smile
