@HesterShaw1 I have a couple of very dear friends who are full on dementors. Its depressing. But both have additional risk factors and are really scared. I try to remember this and be kind.

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/06/2020 20:06

The government certainly needs to do more - but so does the public

Quote from BBC news on an article about infection numbers levelling off and people not engaging with track and trace.

No. Fuck off. We’ve done enough.

SpnBaby1967 · 18/06/2020 20:13

I read the BBC article about track & trace, the writing was all doom & gloom but actually the number of people they tracked & traced was really high. Surely for this programme that's a good thing? Was something like 90%.

Whether you agree with T&T or not, this still just amazes me how the BBC can turn any story into apocalypse now

NewYorkIvy · 18/06/2020 20:17

@Shodan I think you make a really good point about risk assessment - I'm a social worker and assessing risk is my bread and butter. I'm pretty pragmatic about mine or the children's chances of catching, never mind dying, from Covid, but things like sending the children to school, going out, meeting friends, are not a slapdash decision but one based on weighing up the risks including the risks to mental health and well-being. I may be wrong, that's another risk we always take in my job and it can have dire consequences, but so can being overly risk averse.

However I don't think the media encourages any sense of risk assessment, as every decision is presented as either/or whereas life is much more nuanced. Decisions made about schools, health services are not the "life or death" that we are led to believe - but people just can't seem to accept that any more.

I agree. It’s being presented as a failure but actually it’s just getting started, and the number of contacts being traced is high. Surely if even half of them isolate then it helps bring transmission down? I’m having one of those days (after a few positive ones) where the constant negativity is bringing me down. I just don’t see what people gain by the constant doom and gloom.
Bollss · 18/06/2020 20:32

My (real!!) Relative is doing the track and tracing. She says it's incredibly quiet...

I don't see why it's being labelled as a failure tbh. And I don't really see why we need an app because you're not allowed within 2m of anyone you don't live with anyway, bar nurseries and obvs you'll be able to tell them (or the HCP on the end of the phone!) Anyway!

The NHS masks thing is so that whole depts do not have to isolate at once as apparently it exempts you from having to isolate.

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/06/2020 20:36

I’m so bloody tired of it all.

NothingIsWrong · 18/06/2020 20:39

@Drivingdownthe101 me too. It actually makes me physically tired. I can't get myself out of bed these days

BakewellTarts · 18/06/2020 20:40

So am I really hit the wall this week. I think we just need to reopen. Let stying at home be a personal choice.

It’s more likely to be due to the number of people who have caught covid in hospitals.

Come on everyone chins up, infection rate is slightly lower and will be stubborn at low levels. We’ve only got a couple of weeks and July will be here when life will hopefully improve Smile

rookiemere · 18/06/2020 20:44

Pickachew DM has been doing telephone food ordering with Morrisons and was bemused when she got a tin of Ovaltine, but then remembered she had ordered an aubergine and they must have misheard.

Nihiloxica · 18/06/2020 20:45

OMG I would be devastated if I was short an aubergine and up a tin of some weird English drink.

Bollss · 18/06/2020 20:48

Bit of both I think. My mum manages a none patient facing dept and was told that there had been two whole teams in their hospital sent home in one go because of t&t and masks prevent that so even though they can mostly distance and are nowhere near any risk as such that's why they had to wear them.

BakewellTarts · 18/06/2020 20:49

Ovaltine is disgusting...Aubergines are delicious (at least the way I cook them !)

Dowser · 18/06/2020 21:05

Anyone live near Keswick . My friend does, she has ‘spirit of keswick’, I think they’ve commissioned their own gin , she tells me that the market is fully up and running
( thursdays), May even be Saturdays you’d have to check, but if you fancy a bit of normality there’s your answer.

You can do the castlerigg stone circle and a walk along derwentwater at the side of the theatre. All of this and it’s all Within a couple of miles

We went the last bank holiday Monday when nothing was open but it as a fab day out.

I can’t justify the two hour, 200 mile round trip so soon but if you live near enough, fill your boots.
Jo’s a great lass. She’ll talk your ears off.
We met when we both had villas in Florida.
Ah, those were the days.
Miss them..but not the villa bills thudding on the mat lol

Dowser · 18/06/2020 21:10

Pickachew..my 10 year old grandson is a school refuser
He had three schools in a year 😱
Just felt like we got him settled then this hit

He’s a bright lad. Helped him with his Black Death homework before all of this and he knew a lot of stuff
Goodness knows what will happen to him

Nihiloxica · 18/06/2020 21:12

How do you cook them?

I love aubergine. 🤤

HesterShaw1 · 18/06/2020 21:12

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane

hester I thought you’d already had your full of cock for today. ahem
Sokay Insane. I just Aggresively Gardened for an hour or so. The brambles and bindweed appear to think they are welcome. They are not.
Dowser · 18/06/2020 21:13

Spin baby
It’s why I like markets... a bit more easy going as I hate queuing too

BakewellTarts · 18/06/2020 21:14

I dice them, roast them in the oven and turn them into a curry. Lots of cumin coriander and tumeric.

Also slice thinly dry them in the oven and cook with oil.

And hide them in so many dishes. The DDs try to tell me they dislike Aubergines but they eat lots of them!

justasking111 · 18/06/2020 21:15

Am I right here. Scotland opening shops but there is a distance that you are allowed to travel, what is the distance?

Ghostlyglow · 18/06/2020 21:19

I got an email from specsavers this evening saying they're open for eye tests (mine's overdue) I got quite excited til DP says there's no point getting new glasses because we can't go anywhere "and there's only me who sees you". He's a fun spongeSad.

Do you make baba ghanoush?

I'm so glad I joined this eggplant thread. Blush

BakewellTarts · 18/06/2020 21:21

I love Baba Ghanoush just haven't quite perfected it at home. Do you have a good recipe?

BakewellTarts · 18/06/2020 21:22

And yeah eggplant / aubergine thread rocks!
